TOWL

Is there a strong rumor that TOWL is closing?? I hope not as we just bought into BLT and it was a fun selling point to convince some of our family members to come on our next trip. Thank you!

I believe this was addressed on the first page.

It renews on an annual basis. Just like signing a lease, because that’s exactky what it is. Disney leases that space from the BLT owners.

If I understand correctly Disney can’t close the lounge itself because they don’t own it, we do. They lease the space for the bar that they own and operate in the lounge. I think this was addressed in another thread as well. Hope it helps.

Suppose if Disney say they don't want the lease any more, the management co would have to decide what happens.

I can’t imagine they’d leave the doors unlocked if there’s nobody staffing the lounge. I wonder who pays for the time that the DVD rep in the lobby spends escorting people to the elevator. All staff would have to be funded by dues at that point.

you can get to the deck w/o going through the lounge - the deck is where you see the fireworks from.

DVC is already using the lounge for other events - the painting with a view is there - of course I though we would painting the view - no it is a rose. So not really worried any more about DVC closing the lounge/deck.

They would remove the booze and leave the lounge and deck area open. Use a card reader to allow access or continue to bill owners for the ID checker.

Heading Home in a few weeks and we have never gone to TOWL. Where do we go to get in and what time do you recommend getting there for the fireworks? Thanks!

Was disappointed when we visited in May. Fireworks were over, but it was still crowded. Two servers for the entire lounge and neither were actively circulating, just at the point of sale terminal or tending to a very few tables. We sat for 15 minutes at the easy chairs near the center of the room and never got a sniff of service. Seemed woefully understaffed, they were losing more than just our business that night. We left and went to outer rim. Got a drink there, but they were shutting down at 10! Really disney, shutting down the bar at 10? Someone is asleep at the wheel with these staffing/operating decisions.

We’ll have a meet there before this yest’s DVC Member Cruise!:boat:

Half hour or so before fireworks. Remember that you are supposed to take Disney transportation to BLT and not drive and try to park in the lot.

Thanks! Our Daughter is expecting and thought it may be a better option than fighting the crowds. We would probably just walk over from MK

If you are walking over from the MK, leave the MK about an hour before to give you time to make the walk and get into the building. There is lots of room on the deck outside to watch the fireworks.

JMHO but my experience from numerous trips:

the two loan servers hustle & do a great job. We always spend at least an hour or more there pre FW, lounging :)while we enjoy a few cocktails, munchies. Love to order my guests, who haven’t been there before, the blue fishbowl drink just to see the look on their face, priceless.

If you don’t come early, many of the tables and chairs are taken up by DVC members just sitting there. I do wish they’d designate indoor seating (a portion even?) to guests who will actually will purchase refreshments. If we can’t get a table, then we do skip purchasing food as it’s too difficult to balance it while standing.

Nightlife @ WDW in general, is slim. It’s really not a late crowd place for bars. They are great bean-counters lol, if they could make a profit, they would surely staff them later.

OP - as for checking photo IDs, i say hooray! Maybe it’ll cut down on the throng there.

Lately I haven't seen many guest occupying seat in the lounge that didn't have an order in. There are definitely more people actually using the lounge versus those just killing time for the fireworks.

I don't frequent the TOWL, but we did have a little "staycation" (we live right by WDW) at BLT less than 3 weeks ago and did go to TOWL that evening. We got there about 20-30 minutes before fireworks and the place was packed to the gills! We were only able to find 1 stool at the bar out of the entire room. At least on the night we were there, most of the tables I saw did NOT have any plates or drinks on them the entire time we were there. And people were just lounging about in those seats for over a half hour. I mean, it's not a big deal, but perhaps they could put a low bar along the window wall, so as not to impede the view of those behind, for those that just want to sit in the lounge and not order. After about 25 minutes of my DH standing while I sat on the 1 lonely seat available in the room, we saw a couple that looked as though they were about to leave. The woman was kind enough to let us know they were leaving and for me to come over and hold the table for us. :-)

One other thing of note was even though I was sitting at the bar, and earnestly trying to catch the bartender's eye to place an order, we could not get service. I agree they need more than 2 people working the place, at least if most people usually DO order food/drinks. We finally asked if we could place an order. Met some very nice members while we waited, and once we finally got a place for the 2 of us to sit down, the guy that was waiting on those of us wanting to order, was super nice.

We walked over from MK in October. They checked our Blue membership card and scanned our MB. Never asked for a drivers license.
Really enjoyed TOWL. We will be going back. Fun place to watch the fireworks show. As good or better than California Grill. The lounge was busy, but not packed when we were there.
