Trip report: Hawaii(BI)/Aulani - The audiologists take on Hawaii

Day 10 con’t

So we looked on google maps and it had a picture spot at Sherwood beach on Waimanalo Bay. So we put it in gps and headed out. Luckily there were restrooms at this beach and a parking lot. This is where I took my favorite picture which is now my puter wallpaper

Kim walked the shore looking for shells and I sat on the beach to look at the waves and relax. There was a red flag warning here and the waves were much stronger than Lanikai. But it was very pretty

We stayed here for a while and then headed to the Makapu’u lighthouse lookout. You can see Sea life park from here

Then we headed to the Halona Blowhole.

it started pouring here so we headed back towards Honolulu.

Day 10 con’t

We got a great view of Diamondhead on the drive in once the rain stopped.

we were headed to Waiola Shave ice.

They make their own syrups from scratch. I never had a shave ice, plenty of snocones but this was like eating flavored snow. I really enjoyed it. I got pineapple, strawberry and guava. So good!

so then we headed back to Aulani. We wanted to get there before the traffic started. We stopped in Waipahu at the Honolulu Cookie Company to get some cookies and headed home. Headed to the pool and they were doing a Donald meet and greet so I jumped in line as he is my favorite

he’s so cute! Went to Infinity pool for a while and the big pool as it was too crowded in the infinity one and the lazy river

Then we staked out some chairs over near AMA AMA for sunset pics. It did not disappoint.

We then stopped to eat at Off the Hook and headed to the room for the night. We had to start packing as tomorrow was our last day.

The other thing I got was POG juice. Now I love POG juice at Disney and we got some for the room. But this was 100% juice, not with sugars and additives and it was phenomenal. I would go back just for the juice

Yup, nothing quite like fresh POG!

@dachsie thanks for posting the pics of Lanikai Beach!

Kailua and Lanikai are my all time favorite beaches, with a slight bias going to Kailua because of the parking and the restroom/showers

Anyone headed to Aulani should take a least one day and head to the east side beaches, it is soooo worth the drive but be advised that the parking area at Waimanalo is a little secluded behind the screen of trees. I have heard that this can make your car an easy target for a break in

Great trip report - this is the way we love to do Aulani trips too - time out and about and then back to enjoy the resort. Oahu has so much natural beauty - I always tell people asking for tips to rent a car and get out and see the island. I am going to put that catamaran trip on my list of things to look into for our next trip,

Thanks all. I really enjoyed the southeast beaches. And the pools at Aulani. And the spa....oh, need to post my last day

Day 11 - pools, spa and going home

Woke up and we had breakfast at AMA AMA. I originally was going for the pancakes but instead decided on that lobster breakfast sandwich. Loved it!

next we walked over to Paradise Cove beach. No wildlife there which I was bummed about. I wanted to see sea turtles again.

Then we went to the ABC store for some last minute things. I wanted a Hawai’i luggage tag. Headed back to Aulani and sat on the balcony outside the lobby and watched the Mouse meet and greet people and just relaxed a bit. Then headed up to room to collect bags and bring to bell services. I kept out a tote bag with my travel clothes and had my swim suit on. Took one last pic of the room view with the sun shining

After luggage squared away, I headed to the infinity pool. Kim decided to back to ABC store. She also stopped again at Maui Divers and yep - she got another set of twin (pink) pearls. She picked 6 oysters and got 4 sets of twins and 2 singles on the trip. I was so jealous. Lol

I spent morning in the pool and lazy river and then to the infinity hot tub

I then grabbed a kalua pork flatbread at Ulu for lunch and then headed to Laniawai spa.

Folks, this is a fabulous Spa. First the have you chose a rock that had the English and the Hawaiian word oh it. I got Ho’olohe which means listen. I loved that cause obviously my profession is to help people hear and listen. Then they take you to the fountain in the crossroads of the hallways to throw your rock in

then they show you the locker and relaxation room and then take you to the garden.

They have different pools with cool and lukewarm water as seen above. Then the have the hot tub and the cold plunge. Did not try that. Lol

and I liked the different water fountain streams

I got the lomi lomi massage which was very relaxing. Afterwards I wish I had known I could stay longer cause I would have napped in the relaxation room. It was so peaceful. Anyway I showered and changed and went to go meet Kim. We got our luggage and loaded the car, stopped at Costco for gas and headed to the airport.

so I was all worried about the agricultural screening because we had the pineapple plants in our bags. All they did was told us to put our checked bag on a conveyor and go pick it up on the other side. Never even asked us if we had anything.

So now we go to check in the bags. Mine weighs 57 lbs. :crazy2: so I need to do some rearranging. I was able to get it down to 50 by moving things to my carryon. I am pretty sure it weighed more than 25#:poop: Took it to the desk and headed to the gate.

Overall, it was a fabulous trip. I would put it in the “trip of a lifetime” category with my Italy trip I did in ‘98. Beautiful resort and am so happy I got to go. My favorite excursions were the Wild Side Specialties tour and the southeast beaches. Highly recommend both.

Thank you so much for this trip report. It's fabulous! We leave in a couple days and your report made me even more excited. I was starting to form a few doubts here & there from other posts -- and from the possibility of some rainy days. You have a great attitude and it looks like you didn't let the weather interrupt your trip. Thanks again!

Have a great time! The only thing the weather did was not let us get better pictures. Don't let it stop you!

Thank you for your report. Your trip sounds amazing! We’re headed to Aulani at the beginning of March for our first visit to Oahu and your report was very helpful. I loved your photos of your windward side beach visits! We have an excursion booked with Wild Side and I was especially interested to read about your experience on this excursion. Too, I’m happy (and relieved) to hear you enjoyed it. Thank you, again!

Hope you get a nice sunny day! You will enjoy it! Be sure to get there a little early - we arrived at 7:45 I think

Loved reading your trip report. It brought back memories of our trip to Aulani. Thanks for sharing!

Just got back from Aulani Saturday night and fell in love! It was fun seeing some of the same things we saw. Ted's Bakery on the North Shore was so good. We had lunch and some of the chocolate haukia pie and it was delicious!

Can't wait to plan another trip back although I have 1 night before my cruise in May.

You took some fabulous pictures!! We didn’t watch nearly that many sunsets on our trip—we’ll have to make a point to do more of that next time, because there WILL be a next time! Wish I could figure out a way to get a work trip to Hawaii—you’re an evil genius!! 😬
