UP & above... Canada & Bonsai Terrace Escape Wedding - 5/5/2016 - UPDATE: Trip plans

Your mani is so cute! I never seem to remember to give myself enough time to let my nails dry, I have an appointment booked before my wedding day, I'll be sure to get there early to enjoy the water features.

Fun TR, I'll agree with everyone else, need to stay at AKL!

Really interesting your trip report and take on things...
I'm really glad we are booked for AKL for our Wedding and Honeymoon. Logistically it would be ideal to be Grand Floridian of course and naturally I think it's stunning too but ultimately (and partly based on what DVC was still available) I chose Animal Kingdom Kidani Village with Savannah view and I'm really happy because it's going to be more peaceful and relaxing at the end of each day. We are doing the
Wanyama Safari and Dinner at Jiko too which I'm really looking forward to.

Fifth day of our trip - 10/13/2015

It was finally time for our engagement shooting with the Roots! I was so nervous about it. It was kind of strange - reading both Jensey’s blogs and writing back and forth with Nate I felt like I knew them, but we had never met them in person. As said before I’m kind of shy with strangers so this was kind of awkward. Moreover I have a temporary form of strabismus and it really makes me feel uncomfortable to get my picture taken. I talked to Nate about it before and right before the shoot and they really made me feel comfortable about it (although it shows in a few pics).

A few months before the trip I had come to the conclusion that I would take a relaxed approach on the day and that we would stay in. That’s why I booked a reservation at Boma for a large breakfast/brunch so that we wouldn’t be too full when we get our pictures taken.

I am so glad I made that reservation. It was definitely an unforgettable meal and Chef Ricky was so nice about my allergies - he showed me every item I could eat and made me a special plate with fresh strawberries (I can’t eat watermelon and he wanted to make sure that I could eat the strawberries without them getting mixed with the watermelon that was nearby) and brought me a double chocolate muffin from the dinner buffet!

IMG_0571.JPG IMG_0572.JPG
Deliciousness featured on the right!

But that was not the highlight of the trip: if you never tried Boma’s Bread Pudding with the Pecan Praline Sauce you missed out big time! It’s very filling, but also the most delicious thing we ate at WDW. The bread pudding has much more cinnamon in it than ‚Ohana’s version and the sauce makes it perfect! We liked it so much, it is now on or DP menu (really hope they’re able to recreate it, but just in case I made a reservation for our honeymoon week at Boma).

After that we separated - DF went to Disney Springs to get me a Bridal headband and himself a Save the date pair of groom’s ears, so that we could use them at the photo shoot. Of course, we forgot them later!

IMG_0577.JPG
Pretty lucky that our balcony was in the shade for most of the day! Love Uzima savannah!

I took my time and painted my toe nails on our balcony. It wasn’t the best idea I had, but I didn’t want to miss one second of animal interaction, so I don’t regret it. I painted them in the Louboutin red as I was going to wear my Louboutins for the first time for the photo shoot (not the ones for the wedding, I got these when we visited DLP in Paris in their first store. Originally these were going to be my wedding shoes, but when I went with a long dress, I wasn't able to switch between them and my dancing shoes (because of the heel height), so I ended up with my glass slippers)! My nails were in the same color. Their nail polish is really amazing. The top of the bottle is almost pencil-like which allows you to put on the polish way more precise (only not on that morning).

After having half a flatbread from The Mara for lunch by myself (it took DF 2,5 hours alone to get to Disney Springs and back) Gina Schmidt from About Face arrived.

I booked them after seeing Jensey’s post about Ashley's wedding with Kalie from their team. Initially Kalie should have come as it was also the trial for the wedding, but her daughter had to go to hospital that day. Instead Gina came and we hit it off immediately! She was so nice to talk to and even jumped over the bed a few times due to the limited space! I was really happy with the results, although I kind of felt strange during the application of the airbrush make-up (especially the nose part). The make-up did hold all day and didn’t wear off at all.

We did run a little behind so we let Gina take her time to clean up and we rushed to grab a cab to Port Orleans French Quarter which turned out to be the perfect background. We came a few minutes early and sat down to switch shoes, but Nate and Jensey were already there. We were both very nervous at first, but I hope to speak for us all - we hit it off pretty easily. We kept talking the whole time and Nate had to constantly remind us that we were there to take pictures.

The first ones are with my Louboutins, but quickly we changed into our dancing shoes as I wanted to have shots of our favorite dancing poses. They did such a great job! I really hate getting my picture taken as I have a temporary form of strabismus since I was 4 years old and it almost always shows when I’m stressed or nervous. That’s why it was so important for me to have kind of a relationship with the photographers. It gets much worse when I’m uncomfortable or intimidated.

For now, I let the pictures speak for themselves!

(disclaimer: pics are not as high res for the uploading!)

Please forgive me, but I really couldn't choose and these aren't all the pics by far - but you have to LOVE their work!

thumb_005_1024.jpg thumb_008_1024.jpg thumb_009_1024.jpg thumb_013_1024.jpg thumb_017_1024.jpg thumb_019_1024.jpg
He always makes me laugh (sometimes by telling inappropriate jokes)

thumb_020_1024.jpg
Ok, be serious, we have to look like we're only cuddling and smooching ;-)

thumb_024_1024.jpg
I LOVE this pic, because when the session was over, I realized they hadn't taken a pic of my ring (I mean nothing like 'hold up your hand - higher - That's it!), but as amazing as they are, of course, they (Jensey to be exact) had taken one!

thumb_028_1024.jpg thumb_036_1024.jpg
Ladies - let me tell you, nude shoes are your best friend when you have tiny chubby legs like mine!

thumb_043_1024.jpg thumb_045_1024.jpg thumb_050_1024.jpg
We never noticed Nate hanging himself from whatever to get these amazing shots!

thumb_052_1024.jpg
And that is how we met <3

thumb_053_1024.jpg thumb_058_1024.jpg thumb_068_1024.jpg thumb_075_1024.jpg thumb_079_1024.jpg
Yes, this is the cover of our engagement album, in case you wondered!
thumb_087_1024.jpg

thumb_091_1024.jpg thumb_120_1024.jpg
That's why the call it golden hour!
thumb_123_1024.jpg thumb_125_1024.jpg
Enough of the smooching? OK:

thumb_132_1024.jpg
(Please let me explain that although he looks so innocent, in reality he made a very dirty comment in German that made me react and Nate & Jensey were like: why did you punch him? - but I really love that they even give you these shots, these are the ones that really describe you as a couple in my opinion (I mean of course we are dancing in the sunlight in a nearby park every day, but you know what I mean ;-))

thumb_147_1024.jpg
LOOOOOVE this pic!!!!
thumb_150_1024.jpg thumb_164_1024.jpg thumb_170_1024.jpg

And that's it! We love every single picture and they're hanging all other our bedroom and we even repainted the walls for them! We love the Roots and after trying to find a photographer for our reception here, I cannot emphasize enough the level of professionalism they offer! They are really wonderful people and we're so glad to have them for our wedding!

After the shoot Nate and Jensey were so kind to drive as back to AKL where I quickly changed into my Minnie dress. I made FPs for Figment (which we missed), for the character spot and IllumiNations. I normally don’t get FPs for character meets, but I really wanted to get pictures with hair and make-up (better get out of it what you can, right?) and my dress with Minnie in her matching dress.

First of - Mickey (you can see three characters in these pic!)
thumb_EPCOT_CHRCON2_7487433990_1024.jpg
DF's favorite (he makes the Goofy sound when he sneezes and I'm pretty sure that's a big part of the reason why I love him so much)
thumb_EPCOT_CHRCON3_7487437316_1024.jpg
Minnie was excited to see me and wanted to take pics with me alone!
thumb_EPCOT_CHRCON3_7487437321_1024.jpg thumb_EPCOT_CHRCON3_7487437331_1024.jpg
Always a gentleman, my man.
thumb_EPCOT_CHRCON3_7487437330_1024.jpg
(Is it mean to show photo pass pics after the Root ones? Maybe a little bit...)

We then had the delicious Cheddar Cheese soup from Canada and the chicken gyro from Greece which were both delicious. After we found out that the line for the IllumiNations FP went back all the way to Mexico, we passed on that, got a sweet corn cake from Mexico and were still able to catch a spot to watch the fireworks right by the water. This is really a FP+ that isn’t worth it.
IMG_0831.JPG
Canadian deliciousness!

IMG_0833.JPG
And Greek deliciousness!

IMG_0834.JPG
I didn't like it, but DF loved - the sweet and sweet corn part didn't match for me!

We both like IllumiNations way more than Wishes (again: thank God we booked the right DP!). In my biased opinion the best spot is from Japan where you can see the earth ball moving into the centre, but we’ll see in May for sue ;-). It was the perfect day to celebrate the second anniversary of our engagement!
Hope you enjoyed these lengthy installment - I'm glad I could post, although I'm learning 24/7 at the moment!

I have my appointment on your wedding day! Shame that we miss each other, but hopefully we see each other at the parks (cool wedding theme by the way!)

I think AKL is WAY more romantic than the GF, because it's so secluded. I'm really hoping to stay at Kidani one day! Definitely on my bucket list, because the Animal Specialist told us you an see the savannah from the pool! (And that was maybe the only downside - the pool area at Jambo)

LOVE all your shots from the Roots, especially the dancing ones! Those are some absolutely amazing shots :) Port Orleans French Quarter is such a pretty little resort. That blue dress you have on pops so nicely in the pictures too! You guys are absolutely adorable.

OMG your engagement pictures are BEAUTIFUL! Some of my favorite Root photos I've seen in awhile! That light is amazing, but I especially love all the photos of you and your fiancé dancing. So adorable <3

Thank you all so much for your kind words! It was just what I needed after this weekend - so many (totally unnecessary) things came up and next week are my finals! I don't know, if I'll be able to post before them, but I'll try my best!

I'm back! Finals are done and after having a bad allergic reaction last week - I'm back to wedding planning only! I try to do my best to finish the trip report asap and then fill you in with all the details!

So on to...

Sixth day of our trip - 10/14/2015

On Wednesday we had a full day for the Food & Wine Festival. We purchased the F&W sampler package which enabled as to have 8 snacks from the booths and reserved seating for the Eat to the Beat concert that evening. It also came with a pin for the 20th anniversary of the festival.

We started the day with our FP+ for Test Track and then went to the Festival Centre to grab our lanyards.

We took a quick pit stop at the Fountain View Café and went over to Club Cool. We tried all the drinks (I had to pass on some due to my allergies) and I have to admit that I really like Beverly! But I always liked Italian lemonade, so maybe that’s just my thing?

IMG_0847.JPG

On the way to the World Showcase we purchased to maps for Remy’s Hide & Squeak which turned out to be a lot of fun (and we didn’t cheat, I promise)!
Then it was off to eating! We started in Norway with some school bread which DF absolutely loved. I liked it. It reminds me a lot of the German Krapfen we eat at Carnival season.

IMG_4721.JPG

Then we went over to China where we had the Beijing Roasted Duck in a Steamed Bun with Hoisin Sauce which was mouth-watering. DF had the Black Pepper Shrimp with Sichuan Noddles which we both found really yummy (that was before we realized that he might be allergic to seafood).
IMG_4722.jpg IMG_4723.JPG
We explored the China pavilion for a bit. I really liked their jewelry and almost purchased a bracelet for the wedding.

The next stops where the Africa Outpost for the Buttered Chicken with Micro Cilantro and Naan Bread - everything with Naan Bread is good, right? and the Vegan Korean BBQ with Steamed Rice and Cucumber Kimchi which was definitely a surprise hit for the two of us.
IMG_4726.JPG IMG_4727.JPG

And then we got back home: Germany! The pavilion really looks like an old bavarian town and it was fun to see the German CMs stumble when we approached them in German ;-). DF went to get a Schinkennudel which we would actually call pasta gratin, because ‚Schinkennudel‘ just means pasta with ham (without the cheese). It felt like home again! He also went for one of the Kielbasa and potato pierogi at the Poland booth which he really enjoyed. After that we went back to Future World to get indoors in order to cool off a bit (and because we where stuffed), but not before I grabbed an anniversary pic for elphie alias Jenn! (the kind Italian CM unfortunately put her finger in every pic)
IMG_0883.JPG
(sorry, couldn't find the pic of the pierogi)

IMG_4738.JPG
Happy 1st anniversary, Jenn!

We decided to cool of with the Land ride and where determined to do the Behind the Sees tour the next time where there (although we might be distracted by the Flower and Garden Festival - we really like to eat and just booked the tour for the festival).

I can't wait to eat again! ... continued in part 2!

Sixth day of our trip - 10/14/2015 - part 2

Refreshed we started at the Chew Lab booth: DF had the olive oil-poached salmon with fresh corn, bacon and pepper jam which he liked, but said he had better fish before at WDW. I had the New York strip with Parsnip silk, balsamic glaze and arugula foam which was fantastic. After that we split the Liquid Nitro chocolate-almond truffle with warm whiskey-caramel which was not very enjoyable, something didn't match up for us. We had it together with the Smoking Hibiscus drink which I didn’t like at all, but DF finished quite quickly.
IMG_4750.jpg IMG_4751.JPG
IMG_4747.jpg
IMG_4752.JPG

After that we had another stop at Greece for the delicious Spanakopita and the famous ‚le Cellier‘ mushroom beef filet mignon. I liked it, but it wasn’t my favorite. I think I’ll wait for our Le Cellier reservation which I booked for our 1 week anniversary during our honeymoon (I thought it was a nice idea to celebrate at Canada).
IMG_0940.JPG

DF then stopped at Ireland for the Lobster and Fisherman’s Pie which was one of his favorites for the day.
IMG_4759.jpg

After that we hit France where I found a new love: the ‚La Passion Martini Slush‘! I never enjoyed a drink so much. We tried to get it for our DP, but Japan venue is to small for the slushy machine. The chocolate creme brulée was ok, but nothing special.
IMG_4761.jpg

Continued in part 3!

Sixth day of our trip - 10/14/2015 - part 3

Before the concert started we went to Japan. We liked the spicy hand roll and the Miso Udon very much, but we’re both suckers for Japan food, so that might say nothing.
IMG_4770.JPG
IMG_4772.JPG

While DF waited in the FP line for the Sugar Ray concert I grabbed a Lobster Roll from Hops & Barley which was the perfect treat before the concert.
IMG_4780.JPG
IMG_4774.JPG

Because we had some time to kill until IllumiNations we went back to Future World and rode Spaceship Earth. But before that I grabbed a chocolate cannoli at Italy! Delicious!
IMG_4766.JPG

We went back to Japan to watch IllumiNations, but not before DF stopped at Patagonia to get the roasted Verlasso Salmon with Quinoa and Arugula which he found to be very tasty.
IMG_0966.JPG

Before we went around the world again DF surprised me at the Festival shop - he insisted to get me one of the Dooney & Bourke’s that where a limited edition for the festival. It was an early christmas present and I love that bag. It’s very Disney, but not so much that everyone notices and I’ve already got lots of compliments for it. Of course I had to pose with it in front of the beautiful gate in Morocco.

And then it was time to try out our DP spot: Japan! And it is so beautiful! You can see Spaceship Earth and the beautiful red gate and you’re so near to the water. I can’t wait for our DP (although this would mean the end of our wedding day, so I’m a bit torn).

After that we got on the bus and DF managed to sleep on it - while standing. He really can sleep anywhere, but after all that eating, I was almost asleep myself!

Yay an update! Oh my god all the delicious food!! That sampler package sounds like a really good idea. Your trip report makes me so excited for our trip this October.

You are getting so close to your wedding! I hope all the planning is wrapping up nicely and it is smooth sailing until your wedding.

Dawww you got an anniversary pic for me!! It looks so cute, even with the photo bomb by the CM finger!

You're making me miss food & wine with all these delicious looking pictures! So much yummy-ness all around. Hope you're feel better!

I just finished getting all caught up. First of all - wow! Those engagement pictures are awesome! I love the ones of you guys dancing. Your wedding dress is beautiful, I can't wait to see how it looks in the end! Your wedding is actually getting really close, I'm sure you must be getting excited.

When we went to WDW this past January, I was so excited about the German pavilion, I spent so much money on Haribo's. I've actually been to Germany before, and the entire time we were in Bonn all I seemed to eat were Haribo gummies...
