Well, I was doing some "unofficial" research on how crowded WDW would be for our trip Sept 29- Oct 6. For a few minutes it seemed great- all resorts has vacancies....Except Coronado Springs, which is where we decided to stay. I know it is a convention resort so, does anyone know hat conventions are going on the first week of Oct?

I just read in a magazine about the NECA (Nat'l Electric Contractors Assoc.) Convention in Orlando. Doesn't say where everyone is staying but it does mention that they expect 8,000+ attendees and they all get free tickets to EPCOT for 10/4...so beware!

I, too, am concerned about greater than usual crowds for our trip 9/28-10/10. We chose that time of yr. bc it is traditionally very slow. We booked everything 6 mo to 1 yr ahead and now I hear that attendance will be up due to the FTP and conventions.:(

Those are my dates, too - I will be there October 2 - 8. Not sure about conventions, but I only booked my reservation last week and had no problem getting the AP discount. :) Since I did not even have to fight CRO for the reservation, I am hoping it will not be too packed. All I really want to do is MNSSHP - I have tickets to two parties! This is my first October trip! Can't wait! :)

Argggghhhh.

We arrive on the 4th, and planned to go to Epcot first. Maybe we should switch.

We are planning on going to Epcot on the 4th as well...but Epcot is SO huge that lots and lots of people can be in that park and it doesn't feel jam packed. My plan is to get there at 8:45, grab a FP for Mission Space or Test Track, do the other attraction while waiting for our FP window, then do a few other Future World attractions, and head to World Showcase around 11-11:30. Around 3-4 we are going to head to MGM...I think it will still be okay, even if there are tons of electricians around!! :p

I have reservations for Oct 1 to 6 at CBR. I know all the Epcot resorts are booked for Oct 1 but have openings for Oct 2 to 6. I tried to get the Swan but it was soldout too for Oct 1.

Just checked my schedule - I have Epcot for Oct 4 too!

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Why did you have to post this!!!!!!

We TOO planned Epcot for our first evening!!!!!

Guess we will have to make it MGM.

I hope all of us will have something lime green on so we can spot each other! I will have a lime green Mickey head in my Passholder Pouch I got from passporter.com. :jester:

WOW!!!!
I had Epcot marked for Oct 4 as well!!!!
Doh!

What to do....what to do....
Guess it's back to the drawing boards :)

Anybody have any other heads-up for that first and second week of Oct?

FFerret... There will be a media event on October 8th and 9th for the openings of Mickey's Philharmonic and Mission Space. They will be closing MK early on the 8th for the media and closing Epcot early on the 9th for the media. Apparantly, this is a huge event, like thousands of people. I would assume that some of those media people will bring their familes and stay for a few days to have fun.

I knew they were closing Epcot early on Oct 9th, but was not aware of closing MK early on Oct 8th!!

The web site has them closing at 6pm on the 8th. Is that what you are considering early or is the site incorrect?

So what is left for the evenings.......hhmmmmm....

Sat......either MK for the parade or MGM for Fantasmic
Sunday........MNSSHP
Mon.......Epcot...Illuminations
Tues........??????
Wed......either Epcot or MGM again
Thurs......MK for the parade if we miss it on Sat.
Fri........????????

Anyone else know of any large conventions and/or events that will be taking place then????

Thanks everyone for the info!!!!!:)

Yes, it is closing at 6:00 for the media event. That is early for MK for this time of the year. The other nights they are closing early are for MNSSHP.

As far as Spectro on the 9th, I almost think it would be better to go on the 4th. The problem with it on the 9th is that Epcot is closed to the public on the 9th so there will be no illuminations for the public, so all of those people looking for a night time event will only have spectro and fantasmic.

Yeah, I already thought about that too.....

oh....decisions!!!

But we will be at MK on Sunday for MNSSHP, so not sure if the family wants to do MK 2 nights in a row.

I think it may depend on when they start the new fireworks show!!!
Anyone have a date on that yet??

I was going to do this:

10/4- Epcot AM/ MGM- PM (Fantasmic!)
10/5- MK all day (closes at 6); check out Animal Kingdom Lodge (only deluxe I haven't seen) and perhaps Boma for dinner (right now I have a PS for Whispering Canyon, but I've already eaten there...I am trying to convince myself to try something new!)
10/6- AK all day (probably until 4 or so); Cape May Cafe for dinner and check out the Boardwalk nightlife
10/7- MGM AM & afternoon/Epcot PM (Illuminations)
10/8- SeaWorld AM and early afternoon; catch Blizzard Beach from 2:30-5...Downtown Disney in evening
10/9- MK AM and depart around 2.

I didn't schedule Spectro as we aren't traveling with the kiddos this time and I have seen it before. This is going to be a real relaxed trip for Mom and I; since we were just there for 10 days in March, I don't plan on being commando. We're just going to try and catch what we couldn't do last time and repeat our favorites. :D

 DRAT!
I hadn't thought of that, makes sense though. We had planned a full day at MGM on the 9th, finishing w/ Fantasmic. Things are getting complicated now. Times like this I wish I were one of those people who just "go" to WDW and don't plan a thing!
But that's not me, so...... let's see, I guess we could scratch going to EPCOT on the evening of the 4th (since the electrical contractors will be there crowding up the joint!) and instead go to MGM for the evening to see Fantasmic. Then on our regualrly scheduled MGM day we could leave before things get crowded for Fantasmic and go watch FIS from the beach at the Grand Floridian (to avoid the crowds inside the park).
