What is Castaway Cay Like After Dorian?

On the family cabana beach there has been a steepish step off from the upper area to down by the water for a couple years now..............at least at the lower numbered cabanas.

I am interested to see what this are looks like now. I am sure there will be photos coming in little by little as forum members make stops there.

We were there Friday and honestly I didn't notice anything to complain about. Yes a lot of the foliage had been damaged and I haven't been to the island in 15 years, but everything seemed to be just fine and more than ready for visitors. The smaller play area in the water was not running because the tide wasn't high enough and a couple of excursions were cancelled but that's it. (That's all I noticed as a guest, I mean).

Were people still riding bikes and doing the 5k?

Our ship was late to the dock by 2 hours because of rough water that day, so we did the 5K on board. Yes, people were riding bikes!
You did the 5k on the ship? That’s awesome lol. Good to know they were still running some things as normal. Those are two main things we want to do along with snorkeling

snorkeling was closed for our visit on friday. I have a feeling that will be closed for some time. What essentially happened was a ton of sand from the beach was pulled into the ocean making everything a lot shallower. I wouldn't be surprised if the hidden mickey and sunken ship were completely under sand right now.

You think it’ll still be closed by November though?

Beach chairs only at Serenity Bay on Sunday. No umbrellas or loungers at all on the beach, which has been very eroded. Precious little shade and narrow strip of beach made it seem less "serene."

Our cruise that left Sept. 16 was able to stop. It was my 1st Disney cruise and I thought it was absolutely beautiful!

Any word on the cabanas, both the private ones and the massage ones?

My wife and I were there on Friday 12/06/19. We did not take pictures however my wife noticed the beach was definitely shorter (distance to the water from the scrub brush) then when when we were there back in May of this year. They may have to pump sand back on the beach at some point. We were told the week before they could not put lounge chairs on the beach because of the high tide line.

Were there umbrellas? Was it hideously crowded? No loungers really stinks. We are on a double dip (that was super expensive) and at this point we are debating even bothering to get off the ship. I don't need to feel like I'm at a tropical Jersey Shore (where I live).

My wife and I also grew up on the Jersey Shore. We were not beach people so I did not spend much time there except when I was doing service calls to my beach customers.
I sat at the bar and did not go on the beach. My wife went in the water and said it was cold. Yes there were loungers out, not sure about umbrellas and the beach in the area she was in was crowded. She also said she had to walk in the water to get down the beach because the lounge chairs were right up to the water line. We think high tide may have been coming in.
We get off the ship to do the 5k then get back on the ship to clean up. We then got off the boat to go back to Serenity Bay and have lunch and she goes in the water. Because we do this, that put us out there a little later in the day around 12:30/1:00.
