"When I went it was all lights, and music, and Mickey doin' his magic." — Aug. '18 Disneyversary TR — Completed (Finally!!) August 20, 2021

Alright, folks. This is it. The last update.

Noooooooo!

Actually, happy for you, but sad because your TRs have been fun. Speaking of which...I need to check on several others...the DIS stopped notifying me on several and then work doesn't allow much free time.

And I was offered this massive plate of fruits, gluten free loaf slices, cookies, and mini cupcakes from Erin McKenna's NYC Bakery.

That was very cool and for the money, it shoild be.

I have a note that it seems we were under some kind of air vent that kept dripping water on the chairs and tables? I have no memory of this now whatsoever, but I'm sure it wasn't the best part of the night.
Wait! What? That wasn't the highlight? How snobby of you. :rotfl2:

We also felt like the desserts were fine, but nothing to get too psyched about.
I've often walked through that area when leaving the park and have looked and thought exactly that.

also seem to recall that when we booked the "after" dessert party that it was slated to end after park closing, but that at some point before our trip the park hours were extended and we would now be getting out of the party before the park actually closed.
Didn't know there was an after dessert party, but then again when I've looked at the cost and comment about desserts above, just decided not to.

But it also ended up being a good thing because it meant that we could sneak in one more ride on the Peoplemover.

Yay! Still one of my favorites. Some strange looking feet in the middle there, though.

At the time I thought this was an insane number of pins. If I could have imagined how my pin collection would grow over the three years that followed, I would have been shocked! :rotfl2:
I seem to recall you mentioned trading (and buying) online a lot.

And that's a wrap! If anyone is still here, thanks for sticking it out and coming back to read more whenever I found my way back for another update. :lovestruc
 wait! Who are you?

I'm not sure how long it will be until we have the opportunity to visit "The Bubble" again. Back before COVID-19 reared its ugly head
We're scheduled to have our dis dads convention again in Jan and I'm still waffling between my desire to see everyone and my strong distaste to all the changes they've made that make everything more expensive and less magical.

N and I also talk often about the other places we'd also like to travel—I know, blasphemy!
Well I'm a blasphemer too then...
Sorry if this offends anyone, but as I mentioned...the magic is less and the cost is more, so Disney has lost much appeal to me. I know some things were covid, but several were not.

Cruise scheduled for Apr 2022 and saving money for a Germany trip. I still want to rent a Ferrari or Lamborghini and enjoy some speed on the Autobahn. Okay, fine, I love German food also. Want to see some castles and other things. All right, fine...a lot of reasons I want to go there.

The font is familiar, but I can't place the face...

:rolleyes1

Har har! But I mean...I also get it. haha

My eldest DD started her practicum last September. They started her out with a mentor/teacher shadower but quickly gave her her own class when they split them into smaller sizes for social distance. Then in January, a different school called her university begging them for help and she was their first pick. She taught a 3-4 class independently for the rest of the year. (She was given an early "graduation" even though she didn't get her diploma until June.)

Wow! Yes, your DD must have had some stories from this past year! Sounds like she was in the same boat. It was bad enough starting work this way, but how wild it must have been for her as a student being thrown into this kind of situation to sink or swim! I'm sure she was fantastic, as evidenced by the fact that she was top of the list to help out again in the winter!

She did it all. Full class, split class, split class with in-person and video distance teaching. Baptism by fire.

I'm sure it was more than a little stressful at the time, but now she will be prepared for ANYTHING that comes her way as a new teacher!

Look at you! You're hair is so long! Totally suits you. Love it.

Thanks! It started out of a lockdown and fear of re-entering society to get a haircut, and then just continued out of laziness. I've had it trimmed twice in the last 18 months. But I also like it long and have had long-ish hair a lot of my life, so I'm not in a hurry to cut it off too soon. :)

Aww, what a cutie patootie. :)

She's pretty cute, I have to say. She's developing quite the spunky personality as she gets older, and she's quite fearless. I expect that whenever she gets to take her first Disney trip, the only thing that might hold her back from a thrill ride would be the height restrictions...and depending on how long until we can comfortably take her, that may not even be an issue!

Hey! And do you like it? (Or tolerate it?)

I do like fishing! I had been a few times as a kid, but not in years. Nathan used to go with his dad all the time, and when the pandemic hit he got his license again and started going for something local to do. Before too long, I started asking to go with him. I'm a bit squeamish, so there are parts of the process that I'm not too fond of. I don't mind baiting the hook now, but I still struggle to get the hook out of the fish without turning a little green. And as long as Nathan's with me, I always defer to him to deliver the fatal blow. But otherwise I really enjoy it. We've caught a lot of bass the last couple of summers, and a couple of weeks ago I caught a few brook trout that were very tasty! At some point we'd like to try some tidal fishing here in Nova Scotia since we're in a good spot for it, but haven't made that leap yet.

Youngest DD wants me to go halfers with her on a kayak. Have my reservations.
I'm sure I'll pay 50%, but she'll take 100% ownership.

Hmmm...you may be right on that one!

Beautiful shots.

Thanks!

I'd love to go some day. I've been to Nova Scotia, but that's it.

P.E.I. is really beautiful. There are some great beaches and great food. We've camped there a few times, but now that I'm old and less adventurous we tend to just book a room these days. :thumbsup2

Just saw the movie a couple nights ago. Have you seen it?

Not yet, but I'd like to! Nathan wants to see it, too. I haven't actually set foot in a movie theatre yet since covid, and I haven't broken down to pay the extra for access to it on Disney+. It's on my list though!

Oh, I hear you. And who knows when we'll get back again!

Exactly! I hadn't really realized how long it had been, or thought too much about how much longer it might be, until I sat down to finish this report.

I never really got the chance to decide if I liked it or not. I did see it a couple times, but... not enough to make a decision. Ah well, I'll never see it again, so shan't dwell on it.

Probably likely! I don't know whether it will ever come back at some point. It had what felt like such a short run compared to Wishes. But I'm sure whatever else comes next with the new show will be interesting. Hopefully we'll be able to get back again before that's gone, too!

So soon? It feels like the first chapter was just the other day!

:lmao:

Ice cream?!?!? They had ice cream?!?!

They DID!

I actually felt I was paying for a nice place to sit, not be jostled and have a nice view of the show. The dessert was a perk.

Yeah, that's a good point. The premier location is really most of the perk.

Still here. Always a pleasure to read your updates. :)
Thanks for coming back and finishing.

Thanks so much for sticking it out! I so appreciate how much thought and engagement you give to all the reports you follow!

Wow! Blast from the past. Hard to believe it's been 4 years since you and N got married. Congratulations!

Thanks! Yeah, hard to believe indeed. Time flies...

Also hard to believe it's been almost 3 since I moved down here.

Wow! That's also hard to believe. I remember you talking about moving.

Still kinda sad I never got to meet y'all before this mess started.

Yeah, it's really too bad we didn't get the chance for a meet to work out. We were planning another quick trip in the spring last year, but covid had other plans.

Did manage to take a few days to go to DVC resort at Vero beach.

That sounds nice! It always looks beautiful in pictures.

Otherwise, work, watch some TV, sleep, lather rinse repeat. Pretty boring life in other words.

Nothin' wrong with that! Nice to change things up once in a while, but there's also something to be said for a routine and getting what you can out of the simple things.

Noooooooo!

Actually, happy for you, but sad because your TRs have been fun.

I'm so glad I got it finished! But being back here and reliving some Disney memories also reminded me how much I miss both Disney and the Dis. (And in particular, TR writing!) I'd be lying if I said I wasn't considering starting a report for another one of our pre-covid trips. There are still a few I haven't reported on.

Speaking of which...I need to check on several others...the DIS stopped notifying me on several and then work doesn't allow much free time.

I had the same issue. I think because I was gone so long that the DIS just gave up on me! :rotfl:

I seem to recall you mentioned trading (and buying) online a lot.

Yeah, I really did get involved in the pin community after that point, a lot of it online. There are some Canadian groups through social media sites where people coordinate pin trades through the mail, so I ended up doing a fair bit of buying/selling/trading for a while there. But that slowed a lot since the pandemic hit as well and we've had to be a little more frugal. I still buy a pin here and there, but it's less prevalent a hobby than it used to be for sure.

 wait! Who are you?

We're scheduled to have our dis dads convention again in Jan and I'm still waffling between my desire to see everyone and my strong distaste to all the changes they've made that make everything more expensive and less magical.

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from for sure.

Feeling a bit like that myself, but also haven't let myself give it too much thought yet since I don't really have the option. We can technically travel to the US by air, but it's discouraged, and even if I can I wouldn't feel comfortable yet. Once I reach a point where I feel able and comfortable to travel, I'll have to do some thinking about Disney and the value. I don't think I'll ever want to give it up entirely, but I also don't see us going as much as we used to. :confused3 We also will have some other priorities to keep in mind as well. We're thinking about starting to put some money away for a downpayment, so someday we could buy a house and stop renting, etc.

That sounds like it will be a great trip for you! Go where you're excited about :goodvibes Germany would be awesome. I've never been! I'd like to go someday. I loved Italy, and Nathan's never been to Europe, so we've got a few European countries on our Some Day List as well.

Welcome back! So glad to hear that you and N are doing well in the midst of all the chaos, and congratulations on the new job!

No new TRs for me at this point (after having to cancel an October 2020 trip and unsuccessfully trying to convince my mom to go this summer), but I do have a trip planned for December of this year, and there will definitely be one then! I start my master's program TOMORROW:scared1: though, so there is a whole semester of grad school to get through before then!

Sending lots of pixie dust your way, and here's hoping things will settle down enough for you to make a trip soon!

So wonderful to see you back again even if my last comment had a bit more foreshadowing to it than I'm sure either one of us would have liked :P Even more importantly glad to hear you both are doing well. Congratulations to both of you on the jobs! In this crazy world certainly something to be thankful for.

Thanks so much! It's good to be back. :) Hopefully this time I'll stick around a little longer!

Exciting!! I'll have to keep an eye out for your report!

Congrats on starting your master's! That's wonderful! What are you studying? I've been there with the stress that sometimes comes along with doing your school work, especially for your master's, and just waiting with anticipation for when you can get a break and go to Disney...it will be a great treat to make your hard work even more worth it!

Thanks so much, Kari! Yeah...I really dropped the ball on that one... 😆 I read your comment when I was going back through the more recent posts to remember where I'd left off, and I laughed out loud!

Congratulations on your new job!! I hope you love it!

N continues to paint commissions, both in spray paint and acrylic, but to say that the pandemic didn't affect his business would be a lie.
I love following his social media pages. He is just so incredibly talented!! I'm sad for him and all the artists whose businesses suffered during the pandemic (and still, I'm sure!)

He kept looking and ended up landing a position before too long as an IT Support Specialist with my school district. They love him (because he's awesome.) He started in a casual position, but proved himself quickly and actually managed to move into a permanent full-time gig before I (the person with the master's degree!) did, which he thinks is hilarious. He'll always paint in some capacity, of this we're sure. Whether he will return to painting full-time again in future is yet to be seen. For the meantime, we're working, we're healthy, and we're both okay.
This just feels like fate! I'm glad you're both doing ok!

After all the amazing experiences we'd had on our anniversary trip...surfing lessons, Discovery Cove, early morning photo shoot, Early Morning Magic, some amazing meals, the Halloween party, tours, etc., the dessert party felt just okay, and like less of a value for our money than some of the other things we did.
Oh, yea, now I remember this TR :) LOL

Perfect way to end the day and the trip!

So nice to see you back, Meghan!! :)

Congrats on the new job!!!!! I am glad to see you back and to be able to read the last day of your trip.

We missed a trip in Aug of 2020 as well. I held out hope and got plane tickets in June because I just did not want to believe that we weren't going. I was so looking forward to it. It was with my mom and step dad and my mom was excited to have a place to go and have things to eat. She has celiac. But by July I had canceled everything. We are not looking to go back until spring break of 2023 when my kids go with their marching band. I so miss my trips.

Welcome back!!! I think most of us have gone through a part of time where we just couldn't be here on the boards. It has been rough! But glad you are back and that you finished!!!! I hate leave trips unfinished... I am currently working on our last trip still, which was Feb. 2020. So, I am a fellow late poster. ;)

Glad to hear that you both have jobs and are doing well up in Canada.

I miss dessert parties. I hope they come back at some point.

Congratulations on your new job!! I hope you love it!

Thanks so much!

It really did hit artists and small businesses so hard! But as you probably see on his pages, he's got a great following of people who support him, and they kept him painting at least in some capacity throughout the pandemic, which was a huge blessing. :) I think he's pretty great, too :)

So nice to see you back, Meghan!! :)

Nice to be back!

Congrats on the new job!!!!! I am glad to see you back and to be able to read the last day of your trip.

Thanks so much! I'm glad to be back and do some catching up :)

I held out hope for a while for our trips, but like you I ended up having to cancel. And then I hoped for maybe this summer instead, but as this summer came around it's still not easy for us to travel outside of Canada, and even if it were we personally wouldn't be ready yet. But it's hard not to go for so long! I'm with you -- we're really starting to miss our trips! For people with dietary restrictions like me and your mom, it's such a relief to be able to travel to somewhere like Disney and not have to worry. Whenever I try to eat somewhere around home or when we travel elsewhere, I always have to worry and research, but at Disney it's almost a given that I'll be able to find something to eat that's yummy and safe. :) I'm sorry you and your family missed out on that chance last summer!

Thanks!! I'm glad to be back. It took a while, but I came around eventually :) I don't think I've even started your Feb 2020 TR yet, but I know I've got it on my watch list, so I'll hopefully be there before too long. Looking forward to reading about it!

I miss dessert parties. I hope they come back at some point.

Dessert parties were really such a great way to see the fireworks with less stress and treat yourself. I hope you can do another one soon! For my, I want early morning magic back, and H2O Glow Nights at Typhoon Lagoon! Whenever we can get back to Disney, I hope those things are back again, too!

Thank you!! :D I'm studying Secondary Education with a concentration in English/Language Arts. I'm really excited!

Some day...
And I'll almost certainly not camp, too.
Thanks so much for sticking it out! I so appreciate how much thought and engagement you give to all the reports you follow!
You do the same! I just finished answering your comments on my TR!
