Why such a price difference??

Hi all. Our family of 6 took our first Disney cruise in Jan. and loved it (4 night)! I got a quote from DU for March 2005 3 night, 2 adj. rooms, cat. 10 for $4500 (about) (including insurance, no airfare or transfers). I do not know anything about other cruise lines, but I went on line and found that I could book a 4 night on RCCL that same week with ocean view for half the price. What's with that? Both leaving from Port Canaveral and going to Nassau. I LOVE Disney, but I just want to know why the 3 night is sooo much money. I realize the time of year is prime, but why was RCCL so much less for a night more?
 Thanks for any thoughts.

It's supply and demand basically.

The RCCL cruise you mentioned is on a much older ship. It's not nearly as nice as the Disney ship.

RCCL and other lines give better discounts as the cruises draw closer. DIsney just increases their prices as it gets closer.

This past March we took a 4 day cruise on Disney, cat. 5 and it cost us $2800. We could have taken a 7 night cruise on Princess for that amount. I chose Disney since I needed a Disney fix. With that said, our next cruise is on a huge RCCL trip for next year.

Jeez Melrose Girl!

You beat me to it.

I had the whole supply and demand post writing in my head and I saw yours.

Again, I measure a persons intelligence by how much I agree with them.

Also - the other cruise lines have additional revenue sources, the main one being a casino on the ship. Dont you think that helps to lower their cruise price.

Also, the smallest room on a DCL ship is a fair amount larger than the smallest one on another large cruise line. If you compare square footage of the rooms, you probably will notice the cost is a lot closer that you might think.

That seems high, maybe they don't have their preferred rates yet. My cat 11 for March, 2004 was barely half that for a 7 night cruise. I see that several of the online sites don't have prices yet for the DCL times in 2005 at all. Still, other lines will be cheaper in many cases. Good luck.

thank you, lol :)

Believe me, I am in demand of Disney too! :earsgirl: I have no real desire to go on any other cruise ship.

We have no desire to gamble, but I didn't know if my older teens might find something more to do on the RCCL. I think it's true that the one I was pricing was one of the older ships and doesn't have all the neat new things (like wall climbing) that the newer ones have.

Yes, it is Spring break that year, and I'm planning 4 nights prior to be in WDW.

Maybe I'll forget the whole thing; crowds will be huge (been there during Spring break before) and the cost of the cruise is honestly more than I can justify with my oldest going off to college the following year ( I was going to say it's for his graduation, and that same year I'll have one being "promoted" to middle school and another to high school and that was how I was thinking of "justifying" my spending ;) .

Jim:
I know this is off topic, but that is the most beautiful rockfish I've seen in a long time!!! When are where did you land it?
