With Heartfelt Thanks From A Former Cast Member

I can't believe how much I used to hang out on this web site after I returned from a couple of vacations to Disney World, and I never expected to be posting here as a former cast member. The pain of leaving Disney on medical leave and not being allowed to return to work just about felt like it would be the death of me. That is why I quit posting here. Like the old song says "What's too painful to remember we simply choose to forget". I am now on disability and have been since January. I don't think that I could have survived without the support of my former co-workers and former supervisor because leaving really was that awful for me.

I came here long ago to thank you for the difference you made for me as a Disney guest. I now want to thank the Disney cast members for the difference some of you made for me when I was forced to accept that I could not work there anymore. It still hurts, but it's getting better.

Thank you for your reply Kwhyte. I see that you wrote it some time ago, but I just saw it a few seconds ago.

I have thought of being a Disney travel agent, but keeping up with the latest Disney attractions is just too expensive on disability. The one thing that I have thought of is whether there might be a way for me to specialize in the Disney resorts instead of the parks. I have gone out to the resorts a few times for the opportunity to remain among Disney guests and cast members without having to buy a park ticket, which I simply cannot pay for now.

I have also wondered whether I could be a Universal Orlando travel specialist because I don't drive anymore and live right across the street from Universal Studios so I could walk over there to meet up with guests and so forth should the need arise. The thing that might be a disadvantage for me though is that people who have known me the longest say that they think that my personality is more suited to Disney than Universal because I got along well with Walt's daughter while I worked as a volunteer for the Disney Family Museum in San Francisco and seem more suited to grandparents and grandchildren clientele than the demographics that generally favor Universal. Maybe, but I enjoy seeing the teens excited to be out with their dates and headed for the attractions that aren't as "family-friendly" too because young love is cute and all that.

Your message broke my heart, I am so sorry.

Recently, a CM helped me over the phone make a last minute Bippity Boppity Boutique reservation. It was pure Disney magic! your personality seems suited to guest relations like this, could that be an option for you? You could still be part of the Disney magic, and interacting with guests, without having to drive. The CMs that help with questions and reservations over the phone are very important to all of us planning trips. The over the phone kindness/magic is just as important as it is in the park!

All the best to you!
