Yet another 4/3 stay question--oh no not another one

I am a bit confussed about the 4/3 special offers in the past.
Can someone tell me was it 4 nights get 3 free nights (7nights 8 days) or
3 night 4 day get 3 night free (6 nights/7days altogether)?
I'm confussed if it night or days that is paid for.
