Old Rare Character Pics (Updated! Lots of New Pics on Page4)

Thank you!:) It is a bit of both. The ones like Captain Jack and the Stepsisters I knew where to go. The ones like Cinderellabration characters were pure luck, as the shows were canceled. So it depends.

Joanna- do you think that the stepsisters will still be around for the MNSSHP? I love them and my DGD missed them in January. We are also hoping that Marie will be strolling around the parks.

This is awesome!!! Where and when was that picture taken of Kronk? He's one of my very favorites and I haven't seen him ANYWHERE!! I love that picture of Captain Jack . . . I'll be seeing him on the Disney crusie next month:cool1:

I so remember that Roger Rabbit outfit! It was from the days when Minnie & "Friends" would do breakfast at Hollywood & Vine. WHat ever happened to Roger Rabbit anyways? He was once viewed as an equal to Mickey, and now where is he?

Now if only they would start letting Governor Swann do meet n greets . . .

I love seeing the older pictures of the familiar characters too, to see how they have changed over the years. I'm sure at the time they looked fine, but looking back some of them looked so weird back then!!

I miss the old Roger Rabbit display at the end of the Backlot Tour in MGM. I loved all the boxes with the sound effects when you opened the lids, and the huge dip machine from the movie, and even the cardboard cutouts of the characters. It was a really fun interactive area, fun for the kids but not too "young" for the grownups. WDW really needs to put something like that back in the parks. I mean my kids love the playgrounds like Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground and the Boneyard, but I get easily bored in there and would like to see more interactive areas where there are fun things that all ages can enjoy.

Very cool photos! I like that era, right before the Disney princesses hit it big. Wonder where the Oliver and Company costumes are now, lol.

I think it's somewhat sad that these characters' costumes are "Retired." it's all about the princesses now, which is wonderful, but what about the other GREAT Disney movies?

This is of my older sister, I want to say she was about 6 in this picture?

I actually do not know. The characters were first brought out for the P&P in Jan. I am hoping they will be brought back out for the ones in Aug.

I met Kronk last May, and have not seen him since.

They just opened up that Pooh's Playful Spot playground not too long ago in the former spot of the subs. Although I too enjoy seeing kiddies have fun on the playgrounds, when you look at what Disneyland did to their subs (Nemo) and then what WDW did to their (a Pooh playground), it gets kinda depressing :sad2:

You're not the only one. That was one of my favorite areas, and I was so sad when I realized it was gone. :sad1:

I absolutely love the Mexican Pooh but I was wondering if anybody has the old Pooh photo. I got one taken when I was four, in 1989, but I have no clue where it is. Pooh, at that time, had a honey pot on top of his head...:confused3

I found a picture of Pooh with the hunny pot on his head. It's from a parade, though.

I also found this interesting picture of Goofy.

And a picture of Dale at the American Adventure. This is one of several that had the fab 5 in colonial gear, but I didn't want to post a whole bunch.

That one of Goofy in the post before this was from MGM. I have pictures of Chip, Dale, and Mickey dressed in that same way . . . now if I only new how to scan them on my computer . . .

Anyway, are we allowed to post the same thing on two different threads? If so, then I have an awesome character experience I MUST SHARE with people on this thread. If not, then check out my latest post on the "Characters on Board" thread of the Disney Cruise Line Forum.

Somewhere around here I have a pic of my DH (who was then my DF) posing with Jessica Rabbit's cardboard cutout. It's hilarious.

Does Mowgli ever show up anymore? I don't think I've ever seen him.

And I love the Robin Hood parade pics. I remember having such a crush on Robin Hood when I was around 8YO. I guess I didn't mind that he was an animal. Or a cartoon. :rolleyes1

The only time I've ever heard of Mowgli in a park was at the short-lived Jungle Book show at Animal Kingdom. It only lasted a year before it was replaced by Tarzan Rocks, which was replaced by Nemo the Musical.

I think Robin Hood is still one of the characters that walks in front of the Peter Pan float in the MK parade. He was greeting Guests (with no line) around mid-day at the front entrance of Animal Kingdom near the buses.

Anybody have an answer to my question on my last post on this thread?

What a GREAT thread! Being able to see all these, and bring back some memories, is really fantastic! Thanks all for sharing!

The float that Dumbo is in has been re-used and re-themed for lots of parades. In 2005 I think it was in MNSSHP in the Boo To You Parade with Home on the Range characters and in 2005 it was also used in the Boo To You Parade with another chicken character. I totally remember it and I do have it on video.

I don't see why not. I've posted the same pictures on more than one thread before, usually the threads are so different I don't think they attract the same audience.

In 2004 I lost my autograph book at WDW . . . I had been collecting it for 4 years, I was pretty disappointed when I lost it. One of my relatives got in touch with Disney and at Christmas I had a present under the tree to me, from "Lots of People!". I opened it and it was a hand-written letter from Mickey Mouse himself! Also along with it was an entire filled-up autograph book with ultra-rare character signatures, including . . . TINKER BELL!!!!!

Here's the inside of Mickey's letter to me.

And . . . here are the autographs!!!!

First, here are some of characters that are common, but their autographs had special messages.

And now for the rare characters:

Dumbo . . . the only time I've ever seen him was in a parade.
Dumbo.jpg

Simba . . . he's in Festival of the Lion King, though I have NEVER, EVER seen him in the parks for meets or seen any pics or mention of him as a meet & greet character.
SIMBA.jpg

Here's Bullseye . . . I know he's in Woody's Cowboy Camp daily at MK, but I don't think he signs autographs because of his hoofs. Here he is!
Bullseye.jpg

Brer Rabbit . . . I've seen him the Animal Kingdom & MVMCP parades, but never available for greeting.
BrerRabbit.jpg

Pete, Mickey's arch-nemesis in the old cartoons (he was even in Steamboat Willie) and Goofy's next-door-neighbor on the 90's TV show Goof Troop. Never seen him anywhere in any Disney park EVER.
Pete.jpg

Prince Eric & his dog Max (from Little Mermaid) . . . I know Prince Eric has recently been seen at the Pirate & Princess Party, but remember I got this book in 2004! I've never seen his dog Max except for in Voyage of the Little Mermaid at MGM.
PrinceEric.jpg

Hercules . . . To my understanding, he's VERY RARE, although he occassionally makes an appearance at MGM.
Hercules.jpg

And now . . . the one you've all been waiting so patiently all night for . . . Tink!!!! Never has she ever been available for meet n greets, she has only appeared at WDW in the MK fireworks and in the Enchanted Adventures Parade @ the Pirate & Princess Party! I don't know how Mickey got her autograph, but I'm thankful he did. Thanks, Mickey, wherever you are, for a truly magical character experience money can't buy. And now the world may see Tinker Bell's autograph!!!!!! (Edit 6/10/2008 - I've heard that Tink's autograph may not be very rare for long . . . )
Tink.jpg

Hope yall enjoyed!!! :goodvibes

Here are some pics from old attractions:

Rafiki from Legend of the Lion King (it was replaced PhilharMagic). Rafiki was the 1st character to use Living Character Initiate with facial expressions and moving his mouth.

Pinocchio on a bike from Mickey Mania Parade (mid-90's)
OldPinocchio.jpg

Pooh from Mickey Mania Parade (mid-90's)

Not so old, but worth a mention is this Share a Dream Come True Parade float . . . it was retired in August 2006.

Opening Float from Magical Memories Parade (1996-2001)
MagicalMoments.jpg

Again, the Magical Memories Parade
MagicalMoments2.jpg

Lumiere in the Magical Memories Parade--the only time you see him now is for the show at MGM
Lumiere.jpg

Legend of the Lion King at MK, closed in 2002 and replaced by Mickey's PhilharMagic in 2003
LegendLionKing.jpg

Every Day's A Holiday Castle Show (ran through 2001)
EveryDayHoliday2.jpg

Donald and Goofy . . . true BFFs :rotfl2: This picture is priceless. It's during Cinderella's Surprise Celebration (ran from 2001 through 2005, replaced by Cinderellabration, and then that was replaced by Dream Along with Mickey). Notice Donald's face . . . I'd say he's had a facelift or plastic surgery since then, wouldn't you? ;)
DonaldGoofyHug.jpg

The finale of Cinderella's Surprise Celebration . . . Genie's neck looks like it's going to bulge out of his body :goodvibes

Hope you like the pics!

Actually, the SADCT floats are still being used. They are just globeless.
