How's BLT looking? Feeling WORRIED!!!

We are scheduled to spend eight nights at BLT next week. I have been reading about how run down it is and have even seen photos on trip advisor showing torn, worn furniture. Starting to wish I'd booked Kidani again! Am I going to be grossed out, disappointed and generally horrified, or will this be a great trip. I was really looking forward to being so close to the MK. Haven't stayed at the Contemporary since I was 16. Many year ago! Any recent/real time reports would be appreciated.

I haven't stayed there yet, but the issue is the modern decorating that was done there. That style tends to show wear and tear faster than classical/traditional decor. I don't think you'll be grossed out as you put it, but you'll probably see some nicks and scratches on the furniture.

We have stayed there three times (ST/ST/1BR) with our most recent stay being in January. We have never had a problem. Everything was in working order and looked great.

I just returned yesterday. There was a big chip on the TV stand and ring marks that would not wipe off, I don't if someone put something hot down. But neither affected the functionality of the room, I didn't think it was a big deal.

There have been a fair amount of reports about the poor conditions of the rooms so I am always a bit concerned myself. However we have been lucky so far. Our last stay was this past October in a studio and we had no problems. We are staying this October in a 2 Bedroom.

We had a 1bdrm just before Christmas - it was fantastic. Had no issues at all!

It's not just the style, it's the quality of products chosen to look nice but to save Disney money.

There have been reports buy a couple of folks here on the DIS with insider knowledge that the President and GM of DVD/DVC sent the designers and decorators back to cut costs more than once.

The cabinet and furniture laminate seems to be the thinest that you can buy, and it chips easily. The soft goods seem to be below the DVC standard that we have come to know, and there were other cuts like a soap dish in the shower and hooks to hang your towels up in the bathroom. Locks for the bathroom doors were finally added after complaints by the members.

I was just going through my pictures and found these. I noticed the absence of the soap dish! That's bad! And the goofy layout with the bathroom sink in the kitchenette cost them to fix, it shouldn't have happened in the first place. I loved the location but not the room layout. The bed part felt really cramped, reminded me of a New York City hotel room.

That does not look good. Cheered by other comments. I guess we will see.

I also don't think you'll be grossed out unless chips in the furniture or wear patterns in the rug do that to you. My 2 studio stays have shown wear like that but our 2BR not at all. However I had similar wear showing in my Beach Club hotel room a couple of months ago so it's also nothing exclusive to BLT although the materials used there are very susceptible to it. There were many poor choices both in design and looking towards longevity but are unlikely to put a damper on your trip.

We went Feb 25-Mar 1 and stayed in a LV Studio. We had no issues whatsoever with the room or any of the common areas.

I wouldn't worry about it. We've stayed at BLT (our home resort) quite a few times now, most recently in October. I was very apprehensive in October as we took all the grandparents with us for their first DVC visit and wanted to make a great impression. Like you, I read reviews and was nervous. But it was fine. I think there was a broken toilet paper holder in one bathroom, but nothing that was major. And the resort common areas are fabulous. Having stayed in a handful of DVC rooms (BC, VWL, SSR, VB), we've noticed minor things with all of them. Like Kat4Disney said, I've noticed wear and tear everywhere. I'm not saying that is a good thing, but the fact is that it happens at all the resorts. But we've never had anything that ever impacted our trip or the fact we had a great stay. (Knock on wood!). Hope you have a wonderful trip.

We stayed over Christmas in a 1 bedroom (our home resort) and found everything was okay.
Good luck and have fun-it really is nice being so close to the Magic Kingdom!

So, the bathroom sink in the kitchenette was fixed and relocated to the bathroom? Admittedly, not having a sink in the bathroom is the feature that has kept me and my family from staying at BLT. We did not want to groom in the same space that we would be preparing meals.

Yes, they moved it around.

Agreed. There is a difference between "worn" and "dirty." We were at BCV last fall. It was worn, but it wasn't dirty. Worn is not as good as new, but unless you are somehow medically sensitive to chipped paint, you won't be grossed out.
