What age did your kids care about autographs?

We are going to Disney Tuesday with my DD who is two weeks shy of 3. I know that she will want to do character meet and greets but I have no idea if she'll want to do an autograph book. What age was your child when they started to care about getting autographs?

My oldest DS was 3 and my DD was 2. She wanted to do what her brother did. It also helped that my kids were always leery of seeing the characters and the book was kind of a barrier and gave them a little bit extra time to get used to whoever we were seeing. Then they were all smiles for the pictures instead of crying.

Our WDW trip this past May was our family's second Disney trip and this time around my 4 yr old DS was the proud autograph book handler of the group! He went from being timid of the characters on our last trip to being all about the characters and getting their autographs on this trip! DD6 was still excited to meet the characters but didn't particularly care about getting autographs this time around as she is the thrill ride enthusiast of the family and cared more about finally being able to ride Expedition Everest and Space Mountain . My oldest two are 11 years old (twins) and at this point in their lives meeting the characters is still enoyable to an extent but it isn't a must do thing for them and they pretty much go along with it since they have younger siblings and for the group photos we take with some of the characters.

Our daughter was three weeks shy of 3 on our trip and didn't quite get the autograph thing at first but before long she was handing over her book and cheesing it up for the camera. I got her a book with slots for photos of her and each character.

We bought my son an autograph book for this past trip, he is 3 years 8 months old. Every previous trip he has been terrified of the characters and I think the autograph book this time really helped to break the ice. He thought the fact that the animals were writing their names in his book was hilarious. I would get an autograph book, the cost is minimal and makes for longer interactions, and may help break the ice if she is scared of them at all. Here is a picture of my son with piglet signing his book:

3.

DS and DH got in line to meet Buzz at Disneyland. Buzz signs at DL, by the way, unlike at WDW (where he stamps, I believe). Neither one of them knew anything as this was our first proper family trip. DS started noticing all these other kids with books and pens, and desperately wanted one. I was off in the bathroom or something, and so there was no one to run and grab an autograph book, so DS didn't get that experience with Buzz, his first character.

For the second, however, he had an autograph book. :)

He was 8 on our last trip and he's finally lost interest in the autographs. Whew.

My kids have been going to Disneyworld since they were 2 and 4. They've never cared to get autographs from any characters.

Ours were between 5-10 years old. Never really showed interest until around age 5 and on our last trip they had no interest.

My daughter’s first trip she was 7. We had a photo/autograph book combo and once she knew about the activity she wanted to do it. My son was 10 months so we just had the one book. On the next trip she was 9 and still interested. My son was 2.5. Since it was his last “free” trip, we had a bunch of character meals so I made a character meal autograph book we filled up and we didn’t really bother much getting them at the regular meet and greets. He liked watching them sign especially because he could see the character’s picture on the card they were signing. I think he would have been fine either way.

Now on our trip this past June he was nearly 3.5. My 10 year-old still likes getting the signatures and he actually asked for a book this time so I’m glad I already had one for him. I just got them each a little Disney themed spiral bound book. They were $5 each on ebay. I liked how it was small enough for his hands. He carried it himself and handed it to the characters on his own like his sister. They just shared a pen. I still wondered if he was just following her. But we did one meet and greet without my daughter. She preferred to play on the animation computers in the room instead of meeting Sorcerer Mickey. I got to stand back and watch.

Our DD was 4 1/2 her first trip and love the autograph book. She still takes it out and looks at it.

My children never really cared about autographs. We did get some when they were 6 & 9, mostly because we ended up being Magic Kingdom Family of the Day, but if it wasn't for that, I don't think they would have cared.

Lucky. Even though DS wanted to do it, he never once looked at the autographs. As soon as we were home it was gone from his mind. (it's possible he's not interested anymore because I stopped packing the book for him and he just didn't think about it)

My DD was actually afraid of the characters when she was 2-3 even though she had been to WDW many times. I would start slow with "face" characters like the princesses and fairies and then move up to costumed characters. Since you will likely be visiting the characters with her why not get an autograph book and be in charge of getting the autographs? It's really cute when you add photos to the book on the facing page of the autograph.

DD has been on 4 trips (9 mo., 21 months, 28 months, and 34 months). The first two trips she did not care. I thought because she couldn't read she wouldn't care on the last two trips. On the trip when she was 28 mo. she noticed other kids getting autographs and asked for a book toward the end of the trip. My mom had bought her a coloring book so we just used that. On the trip when she was 34 months, we bought a real autograph book (actually, we bought two because she filled the first one up). She LOVES characters. Her ideal trip would be meeting characters everyday all day....with a few rides on Small World and the carousel.

My daughter began showing interest in autographs on our last trip to the World, which was in April and just a month after her 4th birthday. On her 3-year-old trips (we go every April and October) I had tried the autograph route thinking she'd be interested but that was a negative.

Every little one is different though! I clearly remember seeking out autographs when I was 3, which is probably why I thought my daughter would be interested.

My kids never cared about getting autographs or doing character meet & greets.
