I Love the Little Fishies. Don't You?

What a fabulous day. This place looks like a lot of fun....and great for pictures!

The Sea Lion encounter looks great and those pictures are probably worth their weight in gold....Totally priceless! I was amazed at all the pictures of him jumping in front of you too. It looked like he would land right in your laps!

The sea lion encounter sounds and looks fabulous. You wouldn't catch me holding a snake, you were very brave.

Las Caletas is a truly magical place. For me it is kind of like the Castaway Cay of the west.

It really was. Beforehand I would have said the same and if I am honest, I still feel much the same about holding a snake, but somehow I got caught up in the whole atmosphere and decided to go for it. I cannot see me repeating this though.

:scared: No way, never ever ever on the snake. :faint:

Beautiful dress and lovely photos. :thumbsup2

Thanks.

I almost feel guilty that I am about to post day 15 ;)

You will probably get to eat at Palo twice before we have the opportunity again.

Day 15

Fortunately when Mickey called us the next morning, I felt a lot better. My arms were an interesting colour, but the heat had gone out of them and I generally felt back to normal. We got up and got ourselves organized and headed down to Diversions were our excursion was due to meet. They were running a little behind and were still checking in some previous excursions. We found ourselves a seat and made ourselves comfortable. They had some information about excursions in Cabo San Lucas on the screen. I was hoping that they would show something for our excursion, but they did not. Eventually we were called to check in. We had to fill in a waiver. I was delighted when I got the waiver. The name of the tour operator was a different one than on the excursion tickets. This was now Cabo Adventures. They are a sister company of Vallarta Adventures and are also the company that runs the Cabo Dolphin Center so I knew we would have a good time. After everybody was checked in, there was still a little delay, as they had to wait until a tender was available for us, but soon we were on our way.

The tender process was quite smoothly and we even saw some sea lions on the way across. They were California sea lions as opposed to the South American sea lion we played with the previous day, but they were still very cute. Once we arrived at the other end, we were met by a representative from Cabo Adventures, who walked us over to the Cabo Dolphin Centre. She actually was originally from the UK. At the Cabo Dolphin Centre we met up with the second half of the group who came from the local hotels. We were equipped with snorkeling gear. I had my own stuff, but Graham needed to borrow some of theirs. Once we were all together and had all the equipment we needed, she talked us through what was included in the excursion. We would first do a boat tour past some of the landmarks before heading to the snorkeling site. She advised us that some blue Portuguese Man of War jellyfish had been spotted near their normal snorkeling site and we would therefore head to Pelican Rock, which was jellyfish free. We would get some time there to swim and snorkel and also would have access to underwater scooters if we wanted to try those. Then we would head back on the boat and move to another area where we were within swimming distance of a beach. There we would also be met by a support boat, which would carry sea kayaks and paddle boards for us to use. After a while there, we would head back to the Cabo Dolphin Centre where they would have snacks and drinks waiting for us. This sounded great.

We walked the short distance to their boat dock, which was about half way between the Cabo Dolphin Centre and the tender dock. Once we got there, I got this sinking feeling. There was a Zodiac waiting for us. There was no indication of that in the description for the excursion. I see that they have now added this to the description. I assume they had quite a few complaints about this. I quite like riding in a Zodiac and this was a deluxe version with benches in the middle rather than having to sit on the rim like it was the case when we did a Zodiac excursion in Hawaii. The one thing that concerned me is that the only way to get off a Zodiac when it is not at a dock is to jump off the side. On one of the attempts to do this in Hawaii, I swallowed rather a lot of water. As it turned out, this Zodiac was lying much lower in the water probably due the added weight of the seating and this was not an issue at all.

Once we were all on the Zodiac, our guide introduced the photographer who would be with us throughout the excursion and our captain. Then we set off. We slowly cruised past the Wonder and then captain opened the throttle and we went quite quickly towards El Arco, the famous stone arch. There he put the boat in idle so that we could admire this and the neighbouring Seal Rock that had plenty of seals sunning themselves on it. After a while, we set off again and headed to Pelican Rock.

When we arrived at Pelican Rock our guide explained us where we were allowed to go. There was an area roped off and we were allowed to go anywhere inside the roped off area. We also got treated to a bit of a show. There were a number of teenagers jumping from the top of the rock, which was quite fascinating to watch. We were both absolutely blown away by the quality of the snorkeling there. The water may not be quite as clear as at Cozumel, but it was clear enough for us to appreciate what was around us. There were literally thousands of fish around us. We saw some old favourites including my special favourite the King Angelfish, but also a bunch of fish we had never seen before. I took a particular liking to the Cortez Angelfish, which is even prettier than the King Angelfish. I pretty much stayed in a little cove by the rock that was just teeming with the smaller tropical fish. Graham made his way all the way round the rock and saw some bigger fish including some kind of sea bass. We had plenty of time to snorkel and by the time we were given the 10-minute warning, I was ready to get back on the boat. We were given ice-cold bottled waters and some biscuits. I tried some biscuits with marshmallow and coconut, which were very lovely. Graham came back on the boat shortly after I did.

Once everybody was back on board, we moved on to our next stop. I just went for a swim and only swam over to the beach briefly to take some photos of the Wonder, which was anchored directly across from us as it is rather difficult taking a photo of a stationary object while you are bobbing up and down in the waves. Graham decided to try the sea kayaking. I wish I had tried the underwater scooter at that stage, but at the time I was not brave enough. Maybe I will get another chance at some stage. After about an hour, we got back on the boat and headed back to port. When we got back, they had Tortilla Chips with various dips set up for us. Unfortunately a lot were seafood-based. Still, I rather enjoyed the cheese dip and the Jalapenos. We also got Tequila Sunrise or Rum Punch. The Tequila Sunrise was very heavy on the Tequila and somewhat lacking in the sunrise part. The Rum Punch was equally potent. Once we enjoyed our snack and the drinks, we were invited to have a look at the photos. We rather liked what we saw and the photo CD was pretty good value so we decided to go ahead with this. The photographer also knows the trainer and the dolphin that I worked with when I did the Trainer for a Day at the Cabo Dolphin Centre. They have both moved to a sister facility in Cancun now.

After we had paid for the photos and collected our CD, we walked back to the tender dock. They were handing out cold flannels, which felt heavenly. I also had some orange-infused water. As we were walking down to the dock, a tender arrived and we were able to get on straightaway. We did not have long to wait until the tender arrived either. Once we got back to the ship, we got showered and changed and hung up our swim stuff. We then headed up to deck 9 to get some food. Graham had some pizza and I asked him to bring me back a slice of the Pepperoni Pizza. I had a Cheeseburger and Fries. We had our lunch and then it was nearly time to head over the spa.

That evening was the final formal night and I had made an appointment to have my hair put up and the tiara put in. I quickly went back down to the cabin to collect my tiara. I noticed that our message light was flashing on the phone. We had a Champagne and Tiara Meet planned that afternoon and this was supposed to be in the cabin of one family on our cruise meet thread. Unfortunately they had both got ill and that somebody else had offered to host this. I could understand the name of the new host, but not the cabin number. So I ended up not being able to go. Still, that made the day a little less hectic and we enjoyed the bottle of sparkling wine that I had brought as my contribution while we were staying in San Diego.

I headed up to the spa and the hairdresser was ready for me. We discussed different options and I decided that I wanted something quite soft and wavy rather than having it all put up. I told her that I wanted a similar hairstyle to Belle and she did not know what I was referring to. I was quite amused that somebody who works on a Disney ship did not understand what I was talking about. In the end we did manage to understand each other and I rather liked the result.

Unfortunately I somehow managed to mislay Graham. He had originally planned to wait for me on the sofas in the spa reception, but he had gone by the time I was done. As he needed to tie me into my gown, I was a little stuck. They had another group photo that afternoon with the characters in their formal wear. I figured that the line for this would be long and I better get a head start if I wanted the chance to get this photo. I was wearing one of my Hawaiian sundresses so I did not feel completely underdressed. Even though I got there with plenty of time to spare, the line had already snaked around the back wall of the atrium and into the corridor that links Triton’s with the Promenade Lounge. I was just around that corner. I had come prepared though as I knew there would be a wait and had brought my book. Just before the characters were due to arrive, Drew walked up to the couple behind me and told them that they had been selected as the family of the day and asked if they would like to see the characters first. I had never witnessed this before, but did not really think much about this. The characters arrived and shortly afterwards, applause and cheers came from the atrium. It transpired that the man had arranged this to propose to his girlfriend. It was so nice that DCL was able to help him with this. What a truly magical proposal. After this the line moved pretty swiftly and it did not take long until it was my turn for the photo. Even though I was not quite as formal as I would have liked, I really like the photos.

As I did not want to mess up my hair, I decided to stay inside and headed back to the cabin to read my book. At some stage, Graham arrived and tied me into my dress. I put on my jewellery and some make up and then I headed off to get some more photos. They only had one time slot for photos in that session and had Goofy and Donald out on deck 4 midship and Mickey and Pluto in the atrium. I headed to see Mickey and Pluto first and then went up to deck 4 to catch Goofy and Donald. The lines were not too bad and moved pretty swiftly so I had no trouble catching both sets of characters. Then I headed back to the cabin to read a bit more.

I headed back upstairs at around 19:30 to get a photo with Mickey and Minnie. The line was pretty long as this was the only character meet and greet at the time, but it moved steadily and I was entertained while I was waiting. They had an Officer’s Ball on in the atrium. While I was watching what was going on down there, I could feel myself welling up. I suddenly came to the realization that for me the reason I love my Disney cruises so much is really not about the itinerary or even the beautiful ship although of course this contributes to the overall experience. What really makes the cruises so special is the people that work on the ship from the housekeeping, maintenance and serving teams all the way up to the Captain. I got my photos with Mickey and Minnie and then I headed down to the atrium.

I was hoping that I may be able to snag a dance with our character manager Drew, but he kept well away from this. I did however manage to catch up with him as he was passing through to thank him and to tell him what a fantastic time I had with the characters. After 13 cruises with some of them special cruises, I can honestly say that this was the best character interaction I ever had. When I stepped back into the atrium, I did get asked for a dance. My dance partner was the staff captain Grgo. It turned out that before he joined the cruise industry, he worked on ships on the Manchester Ship Canal so we could exchange some notes about our hometown. Once our dance was finished, I thanked him and by then it was time to find Graham and head for dinner.

Dinner that night was at Parrot Cay and we had the Captain's Gala Menu. This is one of my least favourite menus and fortunately I was not particularly hungry that evening. Graham had the Aged Prosciutto served with Sun-dried Tomatoes, Shaved Parmesan and Roasted Garlic. I would have bet that he would end up with the Oysters Rockefeller on the Half Shell, but our server was up to a few surprises that evening. He then got the Wild Forest Mushroom Soup swirled with White Truffle Oil. For his main course Ahmed brought him the Pan-seared Venison Medallions with marinated Red Cabbage, Potato Croquettes and a Port Wine and Juniper Reduction. He also got a Lobster Tail on the side. I think our tablemates were less than impressed when he told them he was having Bambi for dinner. I went with just the main course and had the Oven-roasted Pork Tenderloin over Creamy Cheese Polenta with Merlot Reduction. It was nice to catch up with most of our tablemates and exchange stories of what we had done during the two port days. However, once we had finished our main courses, the photo opportunities called me. Our server did not give us a hard time about this that evening, as there was a dessert buffet later on. However, we passed on that, too. We said goodnight to everybody and headed off.

There were plenty of photo opportunities to choose from. I convinced Graham to get some photos against the white backdrop on the understanding that there won't be any "acrobatics". We also had some photos taken on the staircase and against the ship backdrop. My luck must have been in that evening as I even convinced him to get a photo with Donald and Daisy. The fact that the line was quite short probably had something to do with this.

When we had all the photos we wanted, we headed back to the cabin. I took a photo of our towel animal and then I settled down with my book for a bit and we both enjoyed a glass of wine before getting ready for the night.

Wow, that excursion really looked fabulous. I'm so glad it worked out with no jellies. The rock formations had me oohing and awing! And lots and lots of fish!

Love the matching vest and dress, you got some beautiful pictures. How bizarre about the CM not understanding about the hair do. It turned out lovely.

Amazing fish pics! Some look like they posed!

When I first looked at your dinner pics, I was wondering why you were wearing pink elbow gloves; then I realized it was your sunburn!

Great excursion. Love the pictures of Cabo and all the fishes.

Another wonderful dress. And wow!! You really did get sunburnt.

Hi Corinna,

What a wonderful day, the excursion looks fantastic, is it the Snorkel and Sea Adventure on the Disney website?. I am thinking of booking this one for our cruise next May, I am not a great swimmer but my husband enjoys looking at the fish and swimming in the sea, and your fish pictures look amazing.

Thank you for doing this report it has given me lots of ideas for our Panama Canal cruise next year, I think is going to be very similar to yours, with the same places in Cozumel, Disney excursion in Cartagena, Vallarta and Cabo, the only stop that we don't have next year is Key West, which it is a shame as we haven't been before, but on the other hand being a day shorter it gives us a day in San Diego.

Finally im caught up on day 13. The purple dress is beautiful! I love the shimmer!

Great caharcters photos and I'm glad you got your excursion sorted out!
