Worst advice you got

Honestly I'm not sure much of what has been posted here is really bad advice as most of the things listed do work for some people.

Like park hoppers. We use them all the time. We will hit rope drop, go back for a break, then go somewhere else in the afternoon. Partially because we want to eat at Epcot more days then we want to play all day at Epcot.

Worst advice I got was:
  • FP+ would increase my trip spontaneity,
  • After I had used my 3 FP+ there would be additional FP+ headliners available at the kiosks
  • FP+ had not increased the SB waits on rides like HM or POTC.
  • WiFi in the parks made switching my FP+ times around easy.

Here is the list:

1. "Go to the second parade, the first one is too crowded." Totally wrong - both parades are crowded. Sure, the 1st one is more crowded, but the ride lines are walk on or near walk on during the 2nd parade because everyone either went home after fireworks or are watching the 2nd parade or are still in line to meet Anna and Elsa.

2. "Rent a car and drive to the parks every day, it is much more convenient." Not sure how taking a bus (or if staying at a park resort, taking a short walk) is less convenient than driving in, parking miles away and still taking a bus, boat or tram to actually get to the park.

3. "Don't do any table service, it takes too much time." Of course, because waiting in line for 20 minutes for chicken nuggets, searching for 5 minutes for a place to sit down then taking 25 minutes to eat saves you so much time. I'm perfectly content with taking an hour and 1/2 (or an extra 40 minutes if you are keeping score at home) out of my day to sit in comfort with my family talking about how much fun we are having while being served and actually eating something somewhat good for you.

Doing RD after getting into the hotel after 11pm the night before. We were THAT family having a mid-afternoon meltdown from exhaustion.

While in line at the Magic Kingdom, I once overheard a man telling his family that they could take the monorail to "Harry Potter Land". When I tried (nicely) to correct him, he told me I was mistaken!

Apparently, you aren't aware of platform 9 3/4 at the Disney TTC.

:rotfl2::laughing::lmao:

Worse advice was on the disboards saying how bad FP+ was. You could only ride 3 rides and had to wait in line 45min for everything else. Umm, No, we did more on our last trip in December than we ever did before. :)
That's not advice - that's just an opinion.

Worse advice I ever followed: If it rains, just keep going. Now, this is usually good advice, unless the rain continues on for 18 hours and sets records for the area. Then, just pack it in. Of course, no way to know that would be the case. Along the same lines, this advice: dollar store ponchos work fine. Maybe in a fleeting shower, but when it rains cats and dogs for hours on end, nope - dollar store ponchos are sadly ineffective.

That crowds would be unmanageable the week of July 5th and that people should avoid going then.

Worst advice we received: staying onsite is the only way to go, and the only way your vacation will be "magical". While POR was fine, we certainly didn't feel any "magic" in a single, small room with one bathroom. Yes, we may have only used the room for sleeping but separate bedrooms and bathrooms when travelling with a teenager is a special magic all in itself. The "resort" amenities at POR were limited as well. We have found a much greater degree of happiness, satisfaction, comfort and value at offsite properties. And don't even get me started on the "if I have to drive to the parks, it doesn't feel like vacation". Give me a rental vehicle (and control over my arrival and departure times) any day over waiting for a bus in the searing heat/pouring rain and hoping (a) I will actually get a seat and not have to stand and (b) I will make it to my destination at the appropriate time.

Our other worst advice: "you can sleep at home, your touring plan should be commando from open to close". That only makes for an over-tired and cranky family by the time our vacation is half-way over. We learned that it's okay to have a down day. Its okay to take a day away from the parks and the crowds. Its okay to (gasp!) get off Disney property and see some of the other things Orlando has to offer. And its okay to accept that not everyone can go all day, every day, from sun up to sun down without a break somewhere along the way.

The worst advice I actually got was from the dis on our first trip.

1) you must have adr's or you will be forced to eat burgers every night or starve. so of course I stayed up until midnight to make sure I had those all important ADR's. LOL, what a load of crap. I stopped getting adr's years ago and have never ever not been able to get a ts.

2) must have a plan. same as above. I made a plan the first year to make General Patton proud. all I did was succeed in driving my husband crazy and making my kids cry. Once again, we've gone for the last 10 trips without a "plan" and had the best trips of our lives.

I sure wish Disney published daily admission. I've noticed the last few years that people visiting over the 4th come back reporting crowds were not what they expected. My hunch is that crowds are shifting from higher crowd times into less expensive times of the year.

Amen to this.

1) wifi sucks in the parks and I've been to the world twice now that fp+ has been implemented and sorry switching times is a pain in the $%#^

2) I've yet to get a second fp for soarin, test track, space mountain, rock n rollercoaster or kilmanjario so I guess their idea of headliners and mine are two different things.
