Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS Information & Questions

I'm going to be pretty upset if a third of the pool is closed next week. We booked YC because of the pool. We are having a go slower type wdw vaca and chose this resort for the pool. I would expect any hotel charging $300+++++ a night to inform guests of upcoming closures well in advance!

I read your post, turned off the computer, came up with several replies that I wanted to write, but in the end, decided it's not my place to defend the fact that the pool does need to be worked on every year and that they only do it in thirds and they only do it during the time of the year that tends to be not as busy and not as good of weather so much so that the pool is unusable anyway (this year seems to be an exception so far). I am truly sorry for the position you find yourself in, but do you know how BIG that pool area really is and what closing a third of it down really means? You still have time to switch resorts which I'm sure WDW would do for you if you really feel that this will impede your enjoyment of your week at the World. Also, may I add that if the slide is closed, in prior years they have allowed guests to go over to BW and come out the mouth of the clown. I believe they will even give you a ride over there in a golf cart. Can't say that will be the case this year, but only that they have done this in the past. I really do hope you are able to find some enjoyment during your time there and that this really doesn't make your trip that much less enjoyable.

We'll be back for our 2nd YC stay in Feb-Mar. We're doing kind of a crazy split stay, Poly for 1 night, YC for 3 nights, and WL for 2 nights, but I think it will work out perfectly (and minimize our bus time). We originally booked a garden view, but I was just able to get a lagoon/pool view via Orbitz for about the same price. We're also going to be visiting during the start of Flower and Garden, which I'm really excited about (especially since we can stroll over to Epcot in the evening, and eat from some of the booths!).

Thanks to all for all the helpful info in this thread!

I have been trying to confirm the dates of any scheduled work on Stormalong Bay in January and February. I have done searches on the Disney website and DIS rehab postings and did a Google on the 'Net, and searched All those Ears.

Shoreward- could you send me the link by email where you saw the dates of the slide closure? I don't think you can post links to that site on here.

Has anyone with stays in Jan/Feb received letters regarding any upcoming work on the feature pool? I know they have been sometimes sent in the past, but I haven't heard from anyone who received notice this year.

Thanks!!!

We are staying 1/16 - 1/23 and I haven't received any notice of the slide or any work being done on the pool.
The info that I did see on that "ears" site said the slide would reopen on the 15th, hopefully they don't close another portion right after.
The touring plans site says crowd levels are expected to be 10's for the first few days of our trip so I wouldn't consider this a "slow" time!

We are staying at the BC 1/7-10 for marathon weekend. Have not received any notice.

I think it's a "slow" time in terms of pool use.

We went to BC in early December and it was reasonably nice weather but the pool was DEAD. I'll tell you why: it was not terribly pleasant to be in the pool at this time of year. We did it because we are hardy Canadians but Brrrrrrrrrr is all I can say about our Stormalong experience.

Any additional pictures of the yacht club club lounge in recent days? Also, did they only add 1 hotel room to the footprint (as opposed to 2 for the beach club lounge)? I ask because from the pictures, it still appears fairly small vs. BC.

Somebody who is at the resort now checked with the lifeguards at SAB. They said right now, all they know about is the slide closure 1/11-1/15. No news about any other pool closings scheduled at this time.

Boy Dee, you have "spies" everywhere don't you?! You're awesome!

Thanks! I have a whole fleet of minions at my disposal. Wait. Wrong theme park...

But this pool thing has me so worked up that I am going to go to Florida next week to check it out myself!!! I'll be hanging out at the Beach Club during Teena's shift next Sunday and see if I can get additional info on the pool, travel mugs and maybe do a timed walk over to the Boardwalk...

We will be there in early March. I haven't heard anything from Disney about a pool closure. For those who are staying there when they close part of the pool, I completely understand why you would be upset. If it's a routine thing, Disney should disclose it when you book your room.

I'm so excited to return to Beach Club, after staying at other resorts my past several trips! My sister and I have a garden/woods view room booked. I would like to request a room close to the lobby, and we'd also love a full balcony- but I'm not sure if either of these requests make sense with a garden/woods view room. Does anyone know if this room category has options either close to lobby and/or wiith full balcony? I know requests aren't guaranteed, but if it's possible, I'll put it in- if not, I won't bother. Thanks for your help!

Happy New Year Stormalong gang! Cheers to new beginnings in 2016 (looking at you dear Teena  ) We are still booked on the MK side for summer, but you know with me all things are subject to change ;) Wishing everyone the best, and all those headed to our happy place soon SAFE TRAVELS :grouphug:

We are considering staying at the YC our next trip and I have a few questions.

Do they share buses with BW, Swan, and Dolphin for MK and AK?

What time do the early buses usually come for ADRs?

Any other info you can give to help us narrow down resort choices would be great! We have never stayed at one of the EPCOT resorts so we are trying to decide between this and BW. We would be there the first or second week of Dec and have been this time of year before so have visited for the decorations. We are 3 adults, 2 of us are in our late 30s/early 40s and the other is late 60s. 2 of the 3 have food allergies so dining is not a factor in the decision. Thanks so much!

We had a garden/woods view room on the second floor that was fairly close to the lobby and it had a full balcony. I would go ahead and place your request and see what happens. :)

The YC bus only shares with the BC. It stops first at YC, then BC then goes directly to MK, AK, or DTD. There isn't a bus for Epcot and DHS, just a boat or a nice walk. The latest bus schedule has the BW bus only servicing the BW. The Swan and Dolphin share a bus.

The early buses usually start around 6:30am.

Actually, they have added bus service to EPCOT from the YC and BC. I first noticed it Labor Day weekend at the BC, while waiting for a MK bus. There were three EPCOT busses that pulled up, without anyone boarding, before the packed MK bus arrived. While recently at the YC, I noticed an EPCOT bus. Someone said that bus allows for a quick connection to the monorail at EPCOT, not having to walk to the opposite side of the park, from the International Gateway entrance that EPCOT resort guests use.

I don't know if that was an experiment or a permanent change.

That is interesting, although it doesn't make sense to have a bus to the front of Epcot in order to catch the monorail, since it is much faster to take the MK bus from the resort. I think they rerouted the water park buses so that they all went to Epcot instead of the individual resorts. Maybe it is for that.

Maybe Dee can check it out when she is there in January. ;)

I don't know if it was a test but there were Epcot buses at the YC the first week of October. It was funny because I remarked to a friend that I wished I had known about the buses on my last trip, when I had a heel spur. I just assumed they had always been there and we just missed them every other time we went.
