Jambo! The newest AKL Information thread

Many thanks, I know when we last went in 2009 cherry coke was in the mug station at POR, so was hoping it was still around in the stations. We had cherry coke in the UK but for some reason it's just not here in Australia. Maybe I'll just add a few cartons of it to our garden grocer order :-)

I really could have sworn that, yes, they did have cherry coke at The Mara in Jambo house in January, I know they have had it in the past. I did a quick Google image search and the pictures from The Disney Food Blog shows The Mara having cherry coke in the dispenser in 2013, and I found a different person's blog that shows they had it February 2016.

Hello friends,

Does anyone know the location of the DVC villas at Jambo house? Any suggestions on which area we should request for Jambo house DVC villas?

Thank you.

I know they are on 5th floor and I am also interested on requests for 1 bdrm villa Savannah view.

Hi quick opinion/advice type question.

For those who stayed at AKL which room type did you love? The AP summer discounts popped up and I was able to change my standard room at the summer rate to a AP room only pool view for less money! But obviously if I apply the AP discount to a standard room the savings are even more!

My question is, is the pool view worth it? Or should I just save even more money?

DH and I are booked for our 15 year anniversary at AKL standard room! (Thanks to an amazing AP discount!) We are so excited for our first adults only trip! I thought the kids would be upset but they are excited to stay with grandma and grandpa and go to brunch! (yeah they are a little nuts!) But they are going with us for our family trip over Thanksgiving so I think we are okay!

So excited! Just booked for August 2018, I know it is still ages away but knowing it's happening and the plann is half the fun! Going to treat ourselves and stay club level, fingers crossed its worth the extra money!

Unless it was a huge difference to stay "standard view" I would book "pool view"! With standard view room you could end up many different areas of the resort, including rooms which would be quite a hike to the lobby, restaurants, buses, pool, etc. With a pool view you will be on either Zebra or Giraffe Trail, close to those areas! ;)

I would save 40 bucks with standard and 10 with pool (from my original reservation) so about a 30 difference between. It's our only night there and I wanna be close to the action so to speak especially pools and lobby.

I'm leaning toward pool but I just gotta convince my sister lol

Our first stay we had a gorgeous pool view room with bunkbeds that was convenient to the Lobby and the Mara and the Pool - 3432. We LOVED it.
Our second stay we sprung for a savanna view because we were staying fewer days so it wasn't too much extra overall. We had 3469 overlooking the Uzima and it was fantastic. Also close to the lobby and convenient to the mara and pool (and laundry).
This stay we are going standard. Its our longest trip in years so to stay at our favorite resort we had to curb our preferences. However, there are a good number of standard rooms that have a savanna view and we have requested to be in any room within those room blocks. I'll let you know how it is.

Regardless, you can't go wrong with ANY room type at AKL. Animals are never more than a few steps away for your viewing pleasure. The only thing to know is the hallways are incredibly long and some people find the walk to the rooms further out to be inconvenient. We have always been close to the lobby at our request so this has never been an issue for us. Go with whatever fits the offer and your budget and you won't be unhappy.

How were you able to request that? I will be staying in a standard room later this month (15 days!!!) and different "trails" were not options for my online check in. I only got choices of "upper floor" "near transportion" etc.

If you booked directly through Disney, you can call in requests and then you're not tied to the preprogrammed and limited options during Online Check In.

If you rented points, the member you rented from can call in any requests.

If you're using your own points, you can call Member Services and make any requests.

Hi
We are returning to AKL this summer and I was wondering if Sanaa was still doing the quick service option breakfast. We were hoping to head accross to Kidani one morning, have breakfast and swim in the Kidani pool.

Thanks for any info.

Thank you! I booked through disney--it's a regular room, not DVC. Do you have any suggestions on what I should request if I'd like the best chance of scoring a savanna view?

Keep it simple and make your request "savanna view please". It's worked for us once and my parents twice.

Talk to me about morning coffee at Kidani. We will probably spring for the Refillable mugs. Where can we fill them up (both coffee and soft drinks)?

Sanaa Kuamsha Breakfast Now Available at Sanaa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

"Kuamsha means “awakening” in Swahili, and what better way to “awaken” than with a delicious breakfast at Sanaa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. A new casual quick service dining experience is available from 7 to 10 a.m., where guests can get made-to-order breakfast while taking in a view of the sweeping savannah.

Entrees feature flavors with an African flair, the most popular dish is the Boere Breakfast, which features two eggs any style, tomato chutney (fans of the restaurant’s Indian Bread service will recognize this tasty condiment), Tanzanian hash browns, bacon, Boerewors sausage and a Johnny Cake. The Safari Waffle is piled high with seasonal berries and a delicious Chai whipped cream. Vegans will love the Fruit Sosatie, with quinoa and dried fruit salad, a hearty breakfast with delicate flavors. Other entrees include a Sunrise Sandwich and kids options.

Place your order at the register then choose your seat in the restaurant, an adorable animal with a number will help the cast member delivering your food find you. Coffee lovers won’t want to miss out on the press-pot coffee featuring Kenyan 100% specialty grade Arabica beans. Hot drip coffee, tea, milk, soda and juice are also available.

If you’re short on time and just want to grab a quick bite, there are great Grab ‘n’ Go selections as well. Yogurt parfait, fruit plate, boerewors sausage and egg bobotie pie, banana bread with house-made African chocolate-hazelnut spread, African breakfast cereal, assorted pastries and whole fruits."

I am a touringplans subscriber and they have both a room finder tool and a fax service. You use the room finder tool to find the *perfect* room, and it tells you what to put in your fax message. About 5 days before you arrive TP sends the fax you created to your resort with your preferences. It doesn't mean you'll always get what you wish for, but it helps narrow it down from the broad categories that Disney online check-in offers you.

ETA: One should not request a room above the category paid for, and one should not purchase any category less than what they are willing to accept. In this case, I am aware of some rooms that are considered standard but which offer a savanna view because, in the eyes of some, there is something unappealing about them. I know there is a good chance I will *not* get such a room, and I am comfortable with that. I will not request a flat upgrade to savanna view from standard view. Does that make sense?
