Jambo! The newest AKL Information thread

The days are going by so fast now. I graduated from my RN program 2 weeks ago and now i am studying for the state boards. When I come to Disney this trip I will officially be a Registered Nurse:cheer2:! I received so many Disney gift cards for gifts. I can't wait to be back at my beloved AKL. I booked the Star Wars Dessert Party and i got all the fastpasses I wanted. Now, back to planning and waiting:surfweb:

Congratulations! My wife is a nurse instructor so I know how much of a tough road it can be. Enjoy your trip!

Hi everyone! We stayed at AKL 2 years ago in a Standard room with Bunk Beds, I know they have them..has anyone done this recently? I am attempting to make a room request in hopes that I'll get pixie dusted. I cannot remember our room number from 2 years ago. TIA!
We stayed in 2033 last visit. Standard with bunks, VERY close to transportation, and close to Pool and Mara. Would recommend.

Is there anywhere else to get coffee other than The Mara? I read that they don't open until 7AM but a lot of mornings we're leaving by 7AM for EMH.
They open 0630. I do not know of another place to get coffee -- aside from your in-room coffeemaker ;)

Congratulations and welcome to the wonderful world of nursing :) What specialty are you hoping to enter? I'm an OB RN for my entire RN career spanning 14 years now.

According to the Touring Plans room finder
I find that the room finder is not always accurate with regard to bed configurations. Not sure if that's because the resort changes things or what. Case in point, the room I mention above (2033) is listed as having 2 queens. It definitely has a queen and a set of bunks; we just stayed there 4/22-30 :)

Great - thanks! 6:30 works. For some reason I just don't like using the in room coffeemakers. Weird, I know :confused3
Not weird at all! I don't care for it either, which is why I know the Mara opens at 6:30!

Does anyone know if the health club at Jambo has a scale? Want to keep an eye on my weight while I'm there.

We officially changed from Yacht Club to AKL savannah view today. We are not staying cl and staying an extra night from May 29-June 5. How are the views of the animals from the savannah view rooms with king beds? Are the king bed rooms also close to the lobby and have great animal views from the balcony? We are hoping for a king bed room since we will have our daughter in a pack and play and figure this gives us more room than 2 queens with a pack n play.

Our first visit to AKL July 19-25 !!
Booked standard room. Saw where they have bunk bed rooms my girls would LOVE to not have to sleep together (teenagers of course). I hope we get close to lobby though bc I've had a recent foot injury still recovering from. Are there standard bunk bed rooms close to lobby etc?

Also I see there are toiletries in the rooms, do they replenish when we use them? Hope to save space in the luggage but again have 2 teenage girls so they'll be using up the shampoo/conditioner haha

I believe it does, don't take this as 100% fact, but I remember seeing a scale when I was there last year. Of course I could be wrong as I was just getting in some lifting and getting out.

i left the a small tip every morning for housekeeping and had so many bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash that I had some to take home!

It's standard for them to leave more. We never use ours - we take them home to use here - and we got more of everything every day we had housekeeping (one day we forgot to turn our DND sign back around)

Just returned from our trip (June 9th to 15th). Staying at AKL was always on my bucket list, and it did not disappoint. I loved the resort itself. The grounds, pool, restaurants, and room were great. We stayed in a Savannah view deluxe studio on the Zebra Trail.

The only major negative I had was with the bus service. I've stayed at Pop, Coronado Springs, Caribbean Beach, and Port Orleans in the past. The bus service at AKL was the worst I've seen. Maybe it was just our luck or Disney running fewer buses to save money. One afternoon we waited for 45 minutes for a bus to show up to take us back from MK. We used Lyft a few times to Epcot and Hollywood Studios and it was good.

Overall, it was a great trip.

I am hearing this a lot from recent visitors. I'm usually a fan of buses but our last trip the buses did seem less fantastic than usual (April). I'm not sure its' exclusive to AKL though - I'm seeing it across the entire property. I wonder what's up...

A few questions from an AKL newbie-
1. On an 8am MK opening time, what time do you recommend being at the bus stop?
2. We are doing a split stay. On the day we are "moving" do you recommend taking our bags down to bell service for transfer, or setting up a time the night before for them to come up to the room in the am?
3. If having bell service come up, is it your experience that they are on time?

TIA!!!
1. 6:45 will be early enough.
2. Take your bags down yourself...
3. ...so you don't have to wait 15-20 minutes for Bell Services.

Fyi, we were there this April & had excellent bus service. I think a lot of your wait time is related to time of day and luck, more so than which resort you're at. But in any case, we took the bus all over & never waited long.
