Hurricane Irma?

This shouldn't be a statewide freakout. It going to hit a significant percentage very hard. Most will ask, at storm end, "Is that it?" Doing this very early and getting people out of the Keys is fantastic. Saving our closest island neighbor, The Conch Republic should be a priority. After all, a hurricane in the Keys did kill the early railroad in Florida (and a bunch of laborers.)

Traffic will be stressed, power will be out. Issuing a state of emergency is so the emergency assets are in place before the storm really hits. It involves utility trucks, National Guard...

By Saturday mid-afternoon we will all have a good idea of where this is going, in terms of Orlando. The biggest reason that I would tell people to stay away from Disney while the storm is "passing" is that you will be sequestered to your room for 12-24 hours and the the food is going to be boxed lunch. This seems very expensive. All the resort rooms are Meh at best. Although I did envy the person had the ephemeral room in the Bay Lake Towers. Now that's the room to watch 50-70 mph winds from.

Do you really believe it's going to be 50-70 mph winds? Category 1 hurricanes START at 75 mph. This is a category 5 right now and will probably be a category 4 when it's over FL. That's 130-150 mph winds. This storm WILL hit Florida and I seriously doubt people will be saying "is that it?" when it's over.

I just changed my flights and rental car from Monday to Tuesday. There wasn't much left available on Southwest direct from Atlanta for Tuesday so I decided to just do it after checking the latest hurricane track. Even though the worst would be past Orlando sometime Monday from what I could see, it'll be in Georgia so that was the final straw for me to change.

Tomorrow I'll call DVC Member Services and change the Monday reservation arrival to a Tuesday reservation arrival. If they won't bank my points for that one night which are past the banking date for my December use year, I'll be ok with it.

Now if I could just talk my son into coming home from college - he's about an hour from Savannah and the college is closed tomorrow and Monday but he's saying he wants to stay there.

Correct - and if Irma follows the frightening track projected by the most recent Euro model (ergo, up the "spine"of Florida), discussions I have just seen on the Weather Channel imply it is such a massive, strong storm that it will still be maintaining a status of anywhere from cat 4 to cat 3 while over Central Florida. That would means winds of 130-160 mph in the Orlando area, which are classified on the Saffir-Simpson scale as running from "devastating" to "catastrophic," in terms of their impact on structures.

Exactly what I heard as well. And those winds? Those are "sustained" winds...not gusts. Should that happen, the amount of damage hinges on how long the system is in the area.

Read alot of this thread. We are due to fly in 1 week on thursday. I can't even call and talk to cm's about what they are thinking, cause we are after the 13th. On the 14th. I have played out several sceniarios

Another post from meKeep an eye on the Irma section on the National Hurricane Center website. The cone of uncertainty now includes all of GA. Little bit of AL. Most of TN. All of KY. Some is southern IN. Almost all of Va. Large portion of WV. And of course SC and NC. But it changes to a Tropical storm along the way. Keep a close eye on the weather along the route you intend to take.

I thought the discussion of damage that could be done by the storm was no longer happening on this board?? Correct me if I'm wrong...just genuinely curious here.

Yes I believe we are not to discuss/imply catastrophic or fear comments. Some folks just can't stop ...

Disneys website is always flaky. Even more so under stress like this. As long as they gave u a confirmation number you'll be fine. It will eventually show up. People earlier canceled their ressies and they were still showing up for hours before going away
keep trying....LOL I freed up a "studio" reservation at Old Key West for Saturday (9/9)......this afternoon I was able to add saturday to the hotel we had for sunday - friday. Someone on the board found that putting in for more nights brought up more options than short/single nights. I tried that and that's how I found POFQ magically had availability for saturday when wed afternoon it did not.

Now that we moved the trip to next Thursday makes me wonder if we pushed it out far enough
I bet that is more than enough time. Disney knows what they are doing. Of course we don't know exactly what will happen but I think Disney has everything in hand. It's a business that only wants the best for it's customers.

"Hey, I just realized I have no idea how our tickets work. We ordered them through Undercover Tourist (three day park hoppers). I don't think we assigned specific days to them -- should these be good for a certain amount of time? I bought them in April. Thanks for any info you can share."

We bought our tickets through Undercover Tourist as well. I think if they aren't linked you can get a refund maybe minus a handling fee (if I remember correctly.) We, unfortunately, have already linked our tickets so I don't think there is anything that can be done about ours. We are scheduled to leave Tuesday the 12th. I have about made myself sick worrying over this. We were planning this 2 years ago for our 25th anniversary and it had to be postponed and we finally had enough saved to do a budget trip and now I may lose a large part of that money. I feel really bad for those in Florida and thankful my kids aren't there (it would scare them so bad), but can't help but feel upset that my "once in a lifetime" trip may never happen now.

Last night we cancelled our 9/8-9/12 trip. Rebooked for 9/17-9/22. Now wondering if we will have trouble getting down there. We drive from NC. Really do not want to have to postpone another trip. We have never flown down, but I decided to check Southwest fares just in case. For my family of 5 it was over $1,700! Very hopeful driving won't be a problem (gas, traffic, debris, ect..) *And yes I completely understand that this a small problem in the scheme of things.
