Hurricane Irma?

I know this is a thread about Disney and this hurricane, but I know many of us probably have family in FL, I do, or are visiting while this monster storm hits. Could I ask for some prayers, and positive thoughts for everyone this storm is going to affect, very worried!
Have a brother and sister-in-law in Orlando. They live in the northeastern part of the city along with their three cats. Hope for the best that everyone comes thru unscathed :grouphug:

There is a new message on the WDW site:

New dine reservations for September 10 and 11 are not available at this time as we monitor progress of Hurricane Irma. Effective immediately we will not be enforcing dine reservation cancelation policies so no need to cancel dine reservations through Monday September 11th.

Restaurants are open as normal today. We aren’t taking new reservations on September 10 and 11. Starting now, we won’t be enforcing the cancellation fee and you don’t need to cancel.

So we decided that we want to cancel our trip that starts on the 13th, but my TA basically didn't call today, doesn't really seem like she wants to. What do I do?? She told me I am not going to get a refund since its after the storm, but honestly I am DRIVING in. Gas is hard to come by, I also don't want to sit on the highway with returning traffic all day. I feel like she's not gonna call, and I am screwed here, Disney won't even talk to me about my package.

I have read you can cance online. You should get a refund. We were set to check in on 9th. TA moved dates to dec and got to keep free dining

I can't cancel it. Since it is booked through a TA, she has to cancel it. Which is why I am clueless. I already cancelled my room only that I had added on. I booked that myself, but shes giving me the run around.

As someone who lives a half-mile from the ocean in South Carolina, it's heartbreaking when I see someone use the words "only a Category 3." Please don't underestimate the power of a hurricane. Just for some perspective, Hurricane Katrina was a Category 3 when it made landfall in Louisiana.

I was at Disney last year during Matthew -- a storm that for all intents and purposes "missed" Orlando. We still had plenty of wind, rain, outdoor furniture and benches blown over, etc.

I'm not trying to unnecessarily scare anyone. I just realize a lot of people don't live in hurricane-prone areas. Please do some research on what hurricane strengths mean.

Here in South Carolina, we're still anxiously awaiting to see if the current track holds and we are spared. We had our windows boarded today -- just in case. Hope it was an unnecessary precaution.

Prayers for safety for all in Florida and anywhere in this storm's path.

I feel the same way. I've been reading this thread for days completely perplexed. We were supposed to fly in on the 12th and even though I'm waiting until the absolute last minute to cancel, I know that unless the tracks are completely wrong, it's just not happening. We got hit hard by Sandy and we were without power for over a month. It took a really long time to dig out of that disaster and it wasn't even a Cat. 1. I'm so confused about everyone rescheduling for the following week and I'm not sure if there is something I'm not understanding about the WDW landscape for if it's just wishful thinking?

As for the Cat. 3 talk... I too am relieved that the storm is weakening for some parts of FL simply because anything is better than a cat. 5.

To everyone in FL or anywhere else in Irma's path, you are very much in my thoughts and prayers. Please stay safe.

Have some secondhand news if it hasn't been mentioned.

While rescheduling my flight with jetblue, customer service told that the information they have says MCO's plan is to remain closed through Monday and attempt to resume operation Tuesday.

No we definitely do not want a Cat 5...that's Hurricane Camille territory...just ask Biloxi MS.

The Weather Channel just reported Irma is still expected to make landfall at a Cat 4 or 5, then decrease inland to a Cat 3 which is still a major hurricane. :( Please, everyone, stay safe!

The gfs model came out at midnight and showed Miami taking a direct hit and it going up the coast. Curious what the euro will look like in 15 minutes.

In response to L_B_H who said:
"Hey, I just realized I have no idea how our tickets work. We ordered them through Undercover Tourist (three day park hoppers). I don't think we assigned specific days to them -- should these be good for a certain amount of time? I bought them in April. Thanks for any info you can share."

We bought our tickets through Undercover Tourist as well. I think if they aren't linked you can get a refund maybe minus a handling fee (if I remember correctly.) We, unfortunately, have already linked our tickets so I don't think there is anything that can be done about ours. We are scheduled to leave Tuesday the 12th. I have about made myself sick worrying over this. We were planning this 2 years ago for our 25th anniversary and it had to be postponed and we finally had enough saved to do a budget trip and now I may lose a large part of that money. I feel really bad for those in Florida and thankful my kids aren't there (it would scare them so bad), but can't help but feel upset that my "once in a lifetime" trip may never happen now.

Thank you for the info - I'm so, so sorry about your trip. We had linked ours as well, because I couldn't imagine anything would keep us from this trip. :-( guess I will see if this is something the trip insurance on our credit card will cover - if you haven't yet, you may want to check into that. Best wishes to you.

Add me to the list of those who pushed their dates back to after the storm. I initially had booked Sept 8-13 at the Contemporary, with plans to fly to CA on the 13th and stay at Disneyland until the 18th. Now, I've flipped it. I'm heading to Disneyland tomorrow and am booked Sept 13-18 at POFQ. I'm crossing my fingers that this thing shifts and everything is able to go back to normal by Tues or Wed. But the models are scaring me, so I have a contingency plan. If things are still rough in Orlando on Wed, then I'm just going to spend my whole trip in CA. I haven't changed my Wed flight or my flight from CA to home, so it would just be a matter of cancelling the Wed flight from FL to CA and then booking a hotel in Anaheim or else visiting family in Southern California. But I'm not pulling the trigger on anything until Monday at the earliest. There's just so much that's still unknown.

This is what I would do, call the TA and be firm explain to her/him that you would like to cancel or change dates. If the TA continues to be nonchalant about it explain one last time that you expect expediency and that this is the reason you went with a agent. If nothing gets done speak to a supervisor and explain the situation again. This time explain that if something isn't done ASAP you will file a claim with your bank due to the agents lack of follow through and attitude. Also the fact that you are paying for services they aren't providing. The bank or charge card company will help you they have protections against this. I would also in a non threatening way say that services like yelp, reddit and the various Disney forums are your friend and You have and will continue to post about your experiences. I wish you all the luck in the world and am sure it will work out for you. Remember to be fair but firm, and most of all remain calm throughout the conversations and document everything.

I am feeling better that tons of others are rescheduling as well.We were expected to be there Sunday and it's just not looking to be in the cards.Disappointing, but my sister lives in Orlando and is actually leaving.I will be on the edge of my seat until she is out of the state. this thing is unpredictable and that's what is scary.prayers to all and I hope it turns. Remember a vacation can happen next year :) People will loose their homes and try to keep that in mind.i have an 8th month to keep in mind!

Agreed!my sister lives in Orlando and thank goodness is leaving! prayers for all

Here now - just returned from the MNSSHP awhile ago. Surprised how crowded it was given the circumstances. We fly out tomorrow evening on our originally scheduled flights - if all goes well! Going back to MK tomorrow morning (well, I guess this morning given it's 2am here) and expecting it to be pretty empty but we shall see. Hoping everyone here and in other areas in the path of this monster storm stay safe!
