Actual Dog Experiences

That's the rub. I'm sure the big majority of service animals and their owners are super respectful. It's just these select few idiots who game the system that leaves a sour taste to a lot of people (I'm sure there are those that don't care either way) while taking away from the validity and purpose of real service dogs. So that's annoying if you can't legally question anything to get more information from these entitled dog owners.
No I completely agree. But I think the issue is with the ADA current law. I said ppl should report violations in a previous post, but I think, personally, I would assume if she is breaking this rule, she’s not afraid to break another. Think I might go with a loud passive aggressive comment & move on with my vacation. Guess my point is with all this talk of ppl “knowing” whether dogs are service dogs are not, it seems like it doesn’t matter if the violator knows what to say.

Nothing was stopping people from bringing fake service dogs BEFORE the new pet policy. Why would anybody who is willing to lie about having a service dog suddenly decide its worth it to spend $50 a night to bring their dog? If they were going to do it before they are going to continue to do it now for free.
Agreed. Every time I go back to WDW, I see more & more dogs. Last time I went was this Sept before the policy so think ppl spread the word about how to cheat the system & do.

Hopefully as the policy continues we can continue to get more reports from guests staying at one of the four affected results. Personally, I think the incident at Poly is one that would have happened regardless of the policy change.

No offense, but the title of this thread is misleading. I think there was only 1 real report, 2 others maybe of actual experiences, but it's 15 pages long. The rest is just talking about the dog thing, which is everywhere else. It would be pretty interesting to just be able to read on a thread about real experiences, maybe we can start a thread for just actual experiences, kind of like on the resort pictures thread it is just for that.

Perhaps the OP can put a link to the actual posted experiences in the first post?

I consider a service dog to be among these breeds: "GERMAN SHEPHERDS, GOLDEN RETRIEVERS, LABS" etc.

Generally for people with disabilities such as "blindness, injuries etc"

Call me not politically correct but how is a lap dog sitting on the furniture while the owner is on her phone with no visible signs of disability considered a service dog?

This is so misinformed on so many levels...

I'll just say that disabilities aren't always, or even often, visible.

It is frustrating.

That's a great idea if they can do that! Then people who are thinking of going to a resort can look at that and see how it's going.

I wonder if people are posting some experiences under the individual resorts threads? I saw a post (#21510) on the YC thread from someone who reported not seeing, hearing or smelling one dog during their stay.

No one owes anyone on here a picture of the damage. If such a photo was sent to Disney so be it. As everyone is so keen to remind one another, this thread is about experiences. Should we start another for "Resort Damage Pictures"?
I was commenting on an actual dog experience and was curious about the claim of damage to the lobby area. If @AceVac doesn't want to post proof, that's his prerogative. It's my prerogative to believe that his actual dog experience may have been exaggerated without such proof that he is reluctant to provide.

I want to keep this thread open because in theory, at least, it's serving a useful purpose. That being, reports of experiences with the new dog policy at resorts.

If this continues to deteriorate into yet another pointless, circular argument over who has the right to have a service dog, or what qualifies a dog as a service dog, there's not going to be any point in keeping the thread open.

Let's get back on track, please. If you want Disney to have different policies for service dogs, e-mail them and tell them so. If you just want to debate about service dogs, I'm sure there are loads of boards where you can do that. But it's not a Resorts board topic.

Now, I'm not saying this is a service dog nor am I in any way defending the lady letting her dog bark at people or pee on furniture...but can we please just stop making up the rules for service dogs based on what we think they should be? They are NOT required to sit on the floor. They are NOT required to have a vest or tags. All this misinformation is going to do is cause people to complain to the cast members for things they just read online. Read the rules for yourself on the ADA website...don't just take someone else's words as facts.
So Disney is now allowing dogs on the furniture?

They may not be required, by their owners, to sit on the floor. But Disney certainly has the right to say that animals are not allowed on the furniture.

I don't think it was exaggerated that the dog is sitting on the furniture. That's just wrong!

Respectfully, Of course no one has to post any pictures. But the poster said there was damage it's reasonable to ask if we may see a pic of the damage; they posted pictures easily of the offender. The other poster's question is entirely relevant to this discussion as you've reenforced this thread is about experiences.

The poster doesn't have to share the photo or video but you better believe that somewhere down the line some other poster is going to ask or request for photos of damage, or even post photos of damage themselves in regards to other experiences should this thread stay open at that time. I doubt there will be someone saying "No one owes anyone on here a picture of the damage. If such a photo was sent to Disney so be it. As everyone is so keen to remind one another, this thread is about experiences. Should we start another for "Resort Damage Pictures"?"

Heck on the other thread multiple posters were very clear that they would be following people on property and that they would have their phones ready to go to catch offenders. You really think in all honesty if a poster days or weeks or months later said "I have proof of damage in a photo and/or video" that someone on here won't also say "do you mind sharing that with us?".

And I'll be honest I'm not even exactly keen on sharing photos and videos in general here on the Boards. Regardless of whether I agree with someone's behavior or not I have my own reservations about posting it on social media (like FB and the DIS). I do realize posters have asked if photos and whatnot could be shared for this situation however in the several threads we have had on this topic.

Obviously I think it would be great to be able to hear from people who see a dog/dogs at the resort and how that goes (both good and bad) but I also think it's important to get feedback from people that are staying at one of the resorts that don't see any dogs at all. Some people expressed in the other thread that they don't want to see a dog on their vacation and some people (including myself) think they will hardly see any dogs. It would be good to get a gauge from guests how often we may expect to see a dog. It will probably help people decide whether or not to risk staying at one of the dog friendly resorts.

I was actually trying to protect the innocent. The folks I was trying to show respect seem to appreciate it. I dont have to provide you anything.

Thank you @Lynne M for posting a caveat to other posters. I understand @AceVac not posting photos or videos containing other guests. All the infighting and arguments have led me to other websites, blogs, message boards etc. to try to get actual information on the implementation of this "trial". I was extremely interested in the reports from persons noting dogs on the boardwalk, in the Poly lobby on furniture etc. If this thread no longer serves its purpose, I wouldn't mind if it was locked and a thread started by a moderator, salvaging only those actual reports related to the topic at hand or...start over. Reading two pages of "videos or it didn't happen" or "service dogs don't sit on furniture" type things is not an "actual report of dogs on property".

I do know several service animals. Breed is not relative to the purpose of a service animal. I also know that a small percentage of guest bend and break rules to achieve their own goals. I am familiar with the ADA requirements. Disney claims they are aware of the locations of service animals in their resorts. I suspect that may be true. I really, really want and need to know how this policy is being implemented. I have a reservation at POR made before the policy began but my stay begins 4 days after this "trial" period. If I start noticing numerous abuses with no response or consequence, I will move my resort.
