I love credit cards so much!

You mean the 1,000 points for making a purchase of $25 or more? Mine posted almost right away.

Hmmm. I bought Petco GCs on 2 Amex cards to use my deal for $5 back on $25 in purchases (one using my Marriott account and one using DH's), and I didn't get points for either yet.

Opened a PNC checking account with my CIP and funded for 2k. This is too easy. I hope I can also meet the bonus requirements. I’m going to open a savings account a little later and do the same thing.
Can someone elaborate on this? I want to sign up for more cards but it's difficult meeting the minimum spend.

You can fund a PNC checking and savings account with a credit card online. It only works with Visa and another servicer that I forgot. I think it was Mastercard, but I’m not sure. You have to open the account online and it gives you the credit card option for the initial funding. I lowered my cash advance limit to $100 so it coded as a purchase. It was super easy and took five minutes. In a few weeks I will transfer the funds to my primary account and pay off the credit card.

Looks like the Marriott offer for 120k points for $12k spend in a year is now public according to reddit.

Now I have a question... I was thinking of trying to match my Marriott card to the 100k/$5k offer. I've tried twice so far via sm, the first was a no, the second told me that was a targeted offer and they could with my invitation number or email. I ended up finding an email for that offer from May or something (hey, apparently I signed up for Marriott rewards in 2016 and forgot... oops). I'd need about $1500 on the card in the next month but I wasn't sure about trying to add that with the SPG Biz spend... and then I just thought, hey since my car payment won't take my AMEX... (though I might try to play with that ;)).

But now the question is... do I try to match the $5k offer or the $12k since it's public? We might be thinking of house hunting so we'd have to slow down, which makes the $12k slightly more tempting. Can't decide.

What a great deal! Wish they allowed accounts from CO. I'd jump on it.

Can you pay it off from those accounts? Or do you have to transfer it to other accounts?

I think you can pay it off from the checking account, but I am transferring it to another account first so maybe it is a little less suspicious. I don’t think it would be suspicious if I just paid it off, but I’m still a newbie so I’m worried.

5k offer. Chase will typically match based on similarity in the offer. im 90% sure chase will not match you with the 12k offer.

you can but i would suggest 1) leaving the money for at least 1-2 months... and 2) its same day ACH between banks now, transferring it back to your main bank is best.

I just received the 120k for $12k offer and that seems like a lot of spend for 120k points. I thought the 100k offer during the summer had a much lower spend. I am trying to figure out what a cat 5 free night will even get me. We are staying at a TownePlace Suites Thanksgiving Eve and I think that is considered a cat 3.

I forgot not all states allow PNC. You can fund a BMO account for 1000 with a credit card and can open one every 30 days I think. I haven’t done that yet, but it’s on my list for my next card.

With regards to opening up new checking accounts for bonuses, is there a way to get around the direct deposit requirement? My employer doesn’t offer it and most of the offers I’ve looked into require direct deposit.

I bet Oklahoma is on that list, off to do some research.
Here’s the list: Offer only available to residents of: AL, DC, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, MD, MI, MO, NC, NJ, NY, OH, PA, SC, VA, WI and WV.

Looks like OK is missing from the list. But MD is there :) (That’s my state.)

I transferred money from my capital one account instead of doing direct deposit and got the pnc bonus.

Depending on the bank certain bank transfers will work. Doctor of Credit usually has good datapoints for what works. Savings accounts often have no direct deposit. I opened a discover account for $200 by depositing 20k. They also have $150 for 15k. You can take the money out right away. I waited about a week though.

thats been a dream of mine, somewhere tropical, but i want to go find a place with overwater bungalow. any inputs on maldive?

Never been to the Maldives. But, Overwater was awesome. Kind of weird to feed sharks from your bungalow, then think about swimming in that water. FP has many overwater bungalows throughout the islands. That said, pound for pound there was other splurges that were worth more than the overwater. Buying pearls, scuba diving, private lunch on a motu, upgraded suite with a plunge pool, etc.

Moorea is on the list as well and likely where we will spend the most time since we've heard great things. Flights to PPT is where I'm giving myself a headache. That and booking Thalasso IHG will be challenging to put it mildly.

My DW's favorite activity in all our years to date was renting a scooter to travel around Moorea on our own. Seeing the back side of island where the locals live, interacting with them, eating at out of the way places, it was something else. Bora Bora is great too, but definately more touristy, and the service didn't have the same warm friendly feeling the locals provided on Moorea. Most servers were French, not Polynesian. That said, Bloody Mary's had, to this day, the best fish dinner ever. It was Wahoo, I think teriyaki. I could go on and on and on if you'd like about FP.
