I love credit cards so much!

ETA: I should have said three situations. Plastiq occasionally has promotions that reduce the fees when you pay with certain brands of credit cards, give you rebates on certain kinds of payments, give you a "fee free" month if you schedule recurring payments for a certain amount of time, and "fee free dollars" or no fees on like $1000 when you refer new users. These all would lessen the cost of the promoted kinds of payments through Plastiq.

not a huge discount but theres a $2 cashback for every $1000 spent on plastiq via drop. LINK

I’m sure @Albort is aware of the previous 100k Marriott points offer and the current 80k public offer. What makes the 75k points deal tempting is the annual fee of $85 is waived for the first year. So I guess the questions are whether the 5k (or possibly 25k if the offer ever goes back up to 100k) points difference is worth $85 to you, and are there any other card you’d rather use a 5/24 slot on?

First off @lovewdwfun - please no soliciting for referrals on the boards. That could get us in trouble - plus if you're a regular here I'm sure you know we already have a group established where we can support each other that way.

Here's how I see the offers:
  • NEW OFFER = 78,000 Points + No Annual Fee (75k + 3k for spend)
  • REFERRAL OFFER = 90,500 Points + $85 Annual Fee (80k + 3k for spend + 7.5k for AU)
The additional 12,500 points should be worth at least the $85 (and possibly more). SOOOO This really comes down to do you want more points or is saving the $85 now really important to you. I'd take the points but I'm sure others would prefer to not pay the fee...

Also once the free night is deposited into your marriott account you can cancel the card. I've done it 3 times - you don't lose the free night, it's still good for 12 months and doesn't get taken away.

ive had my eye on the Marriott card for awhile. I dont have any cards i want. only thing left for me is CIP and United and Marriott. at 3/24 until next year.

Looks like this just dropped after the offer on the personal was announced: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/chas...siness-75000-points-no-annual-fee-first-year/

I might be getting this for myself to keep me under 5/24 before the end of the year when I need to go for CP in 2019/2020.

:rotfl:

This makes this really attractive to me...

Me as well. Think I might even apply tonight to start the clock early since I will likely cancel after the first year once the free night posts (or who knows if the card will be around long enough for that :rolleyes1). Was originally contemplating whether I want to do this since I have a CIP already and this would make it 2 Chase Biz cards, so if I needed to go for CP for 2019/2020, I can't rely on the SW Biz...

Though, I guess I could just outright cancel the CIP instead of downgrading to the CIC since CIP has no impact on AAoA. This would free me to apply for the CIC down the road if I don't need the SW Biz...:ssst:

The Amex Blue Cash Preferred (if you are looking for a non-travel card) is probably the best for groceries (6% up to a limit of $6,000 total spending) and gas (3%) if you are just looking for an everyday card. The card comes with an annual fee of $95, but easily offset by the first year bonus and in general, if you can max the spending limit. Those who don't spend the 6,000 organically on groceries tend to utilize the card on giftcards for other spending to get the 6% back on other areas of spending like restaurant, Disney GCs, etc. @wendow has Kroger by her, which offers fuel rewards on top of the 6%, and has been able to maximize the Amex BCP quite well I believe.

Otherwise, there's the Discover IT that acts like the 5% rotating Freedom, but for the first year, they double your cash back, CFU (1.5% on the surface, but if transferred to a CSP/CSR, becomes up to 2.25 when redeemed through the UR portal and possibly more if transferred to a partner) or the Citi DoubleCash (2% outright) which many seem to love who are over 5/24.

Honestly, the best return for everyday spend in this hobby is the sign up bonuses. If you are always working on a minimum spend, the return is almost always at least 10%.

Thanks for that. I have looked at the Blue Cash Preferred before, but since we do not spend that much on groceries (probably only $1,500 annually), after doing the math, we are still almost $1k under to break even from our current bonus card.

Discover could be good too. I always forget about Discover.

I'm a terrible person to recommend an "everyday" card lol - I haven't been without a minimum spend to hit since Sept 2014, lol. I'm always working on a large signup bonus.

AMEX Blue Cash and Blue Cash preferred have been popular cards in that arena though.

Also - I assume your CSR annual fee is going to hit in February (based on that 1/17 signup date) soooo maybe you could get your $300 travel credit, refer your husband, and downgrade it before the end of Feb and not pay any AF!

Yup, probably February. So would I then be able to reapply in March? Or should I go for the CSP?

Another recommendation for the Amex Blue Cash Preferred. I love this card! It earns 6% back at grocery stores and 3% on gas. I typically use my Costco Citi for gas (4% back) unless it's a Freedom category but at least I don't have a freak out moment if my dh gases up with the Amex lol! It's a good card. It does have a $95 AF but there is a referral offer of $250 back after $1000 spend so you'd have that AF covered for 2.5 years. Plus if you spend a decent amount on groceries, you can earn your AF back in 3-4 mos. The 6% back is on up to $6000 in grocery spend.

There is also a no fee version of that card that earns 3% cash back on groceries.

Bolding is mine. Is the referral offer on the DIS Reddit forum? That could make me change my mind about getting it since we don't spend that much on groceries.

I got the Blue Cash Preferred a few months back and I LOVE it..... I searched around and found a referral for no AF first year plus $200 signup bonus.... 6% groceries 3% gas

Thanks for the tip!!!

The $250 after spending $1000 should be there for several of us. I am not familiar with the offer of $200 back with waived AF after spending $1000 but might be worth looking around for it to see if that is still available.

My 2 Cents...this Marriott Business offer is phenomenal! I don't ever recall seeing the AF waived on the biz card! If Marriott/SPG points are on your list I'd strongly consider this one...you can get it when over 5/24 and it doesn't hurt your 5/24 status.

I think it is LITERALLY the only Chase card that you can say both of those statements about!

First, you can't get the CSR or CSP until 24 months from when you last earned the bonus on your CSR...so sorry not this year. Downgrading would just be a way to avoid paying the annual fee.

Regarding the AMEX Blue Cash and Blue Cash Preferred card - both have referral offers. If you don't spend a ton on Groceries you could consider the Blue Cash Everyday which gets you 3% (vs. 6% on the Preferred) BUT has no annual fee!! It has a signup bonus of $200 after spending $1,000.

Out of an abundance of caution because I am impatiently waiting to get back under 5/24 later this year to apply for the CIP, where can I verify that the Marriott biz card won't hurt my 5/24 status? I totally get that I can get the card while over 5/24, I just want to confirm the part about it not counting against 5/24 when it comes to applying for other Chase cards. Thanks!

@CoP Luv The no fee version definitely seems like the way you should go since your spend on groceries isn't high enough to justify the AF. Not unless you anticipate increasing that spend.

Just an fyi, buying GC's from your grocery store does count and you earn 6% back on those too. Couple that with any other grocery store promos on GC's, and that can be a pretty good deal.

there is not really a way for you to check i guess. I mean, the only thing that we can really rely on are DP made by other people, to which is confirmed that Marriott Biz card doesnt count against 5/24.
There is only one business card known to date that counts though. So far...

BTW, anyone hold a CIC/CI+ AND a CIP? All these business talks makes me want to apply for a CIP first. @calypso726 ?

What is the one that does count?

Capital One...
when looking that one up, it says Discover too. I didnt know there was a Discover business card.
Also recall Capital One pulls from all 3 bureaus too.

edit: apparently Barclay as well.

Hmm, thinking I may get the Marriott business card after seeing that deal... No real plans to get another Chase card right now anyways (still under 5/24 regardless) and next card we were planning was CIP for DH. 3k in 3 months shouldn't be a problem for us. This would be my first business card application. I actually have a legitimate side hustle, but I'm wondering if I'll get flagged if I have to put down what it is... I'm a horse braider! AKA I braid horse's manes and tails in a fancy style for horse shows. I do it on the side, but there are people that do it full time. Anyone think I'll run into issues? It would actually be more legitimate than my saying I'm an eBay seller...

@DisneyMandC, have you met @brownhaired_girl? She runs a stable and is a fellow CIP cardholder.
