I agree, especially if flying with kids! DH and I went to Maui for our honeymoon - BOS to LAX with an overnight layover at a hotel by the airport and then LAX to Maui in the morning. I'd like to do it that way next time we go, too.
HA now flies direct from Boston. I’m all for direct flights but that bad boy needs to be broken up. Although home is overnight so I’d consider that!

Oh good to know, thank you! Yes, definitely will be needing an overnight layover. My DD loves to fly but she's only been to FL and that's 3 hours tops.

Couple questions, she is not in grad school right? My dd is considering going to back to England for grad school, probably in 2020.
What miles are you collecting, BA or Virgin? And what is the easiest way to collect them??

Not CaliforniaGirl, but we use MRs on BA generally when we have flown to the UK. You can also use them for Virgin. Amex puts a "sale" on points transfers to miles and there have been some very good ones in the past year. My friend's D was doing study abroad in London and I believe she flew Aer Lingus to avoid the high fees BA charges.

She is in undergrad--getting a BSc in Archeology. But she'll probably stick around for a Masters and maybe a PhD.

I use both URs and MRs for British Air and Virgin--as @mmmears mentioned they are good for either. I don't tend to collect either independently, although the Chase BA credit card does tempt me, and I use the BA shopping portal a lot because they tend to have great points (use cashbackmonitor for this). Very occasionally we also do United award flights if BA and VS are sold out. DD isn't a United coach fan, LOL, she *loves* VS. They really do have a nice coach product. The Amex bonus transfers can be awesome--I've taken advantage of it for both Virgin and BA at different times of the year, and it really helps. You can google AMEX transfer bonus to give you an idea of how frequently they run the bonus promos. The one BIG benefit of BA is that you can pool miles by household so I can transfer my husbands miles/points into his BA account and use them in combination with mine. That ability has been huge a couple of times. Because of the miles pooling, and the good shopping portal miles, I probably lean BA. Anecdotally, it feels like BA has better availability/pricing early and VS is good for last minute bookings--but I don't have proof. I use my CSR and shopping portals for URs and my new Amex Gold has been getting a work out at grocery stores. I've spread out my points between MRs and URs much more since getting that card.

Hawaiian Airlines runs interisland flights for as low as 7,500 HawaiianMiles one-way. Amex MR transfers to HA, and there’s usually a 25% transfer bonus sometime during the year. The Hawaiian Airlines MasterCard (issued by Barclays) is offering a 60k signup bonus right now. Pretty sure HA is on the Chase UR portal too. I also remember reading that SW plans to offer interisland flights. Unsure if they’ll be operating the flights or if it’s a code share situation. That might be an option if you have the CP.

For interisland flights only, you can also find Hawaiian Air tickets on the United portal. I want to say they are 8,000 each way. The great thing is that they don't adjust when the price of the ticket increases. I was able to take advantage when the cash price for an inter island flight skyrocketed on my to over $350 one way. My daughter and I were staying in Maui and wanted to get over to check out Aulani for a couple days.

When I first got my card...to see transactions...I had to select “all transactions” ..
Maybe once a transaction actually posts I will get it as an option? I tried the app too and it has a slightly different error.

If you go into the UR part of the site for that card, you can choose view more activity and the charges will usually appear there before it shows up in the usual spot.

I will keep checking here as well! I track the MSR in Excel, but it will be nice to see the progress with Chase.

I'm trying to transfer some UR in my CIP account to DH's CSR and I'm getting an "unexpected error ".:badpc: I know other people have figured out how to get it to work. Please help:worship:

I’ve had to daisy chain some accounts...is there another Chase account that URs are being transferred into your DHs CSR...if so transfer from your CIP to that account..then to the CSR

@amalone1013 - I was doing a second round of Staples’ no fee $100 MCGCs on DW’s account today, after her first batch shipped, and I noticed that I could put 10x $100 MCGCs (the supposed limit) into her cart and not be charged a fee on any, even though she had already bought $500 worth a few days ago. I ended up buying only $500 worth more today, but may try for more on my account before this deal expires on 1/26/19. Time to put your shiny new CIC to the test!

Thanks! His CIP goes his CSR. Seems like a PITA...so I decided from my account to my Hyatt instead of his. His status won't do much for us for that stay anyway.

Started thinking about fall football weekends already. Last fall, I was able to get some decent Marriott stays, but they are already showing unavailable on points. Looked at the Hyatt place and was able to get a room for 8K points/night....inflated football weekend cash value of $1195.41 for two nights! Hoping to watch Michigan redeem themselves against Notre Dame!

Go Blue!

Just went into P2's CIP account and am getting the same message you posted. Brand new card as well. I'm thinking we're fine.

DF is at 2/24, CSR, CIP, and The Costco visa.

I'm thinking we want to go for a companion pass because mine expires at the end of the year and we have some January/feb 2020 travel we want to do. Is there preference of personal or business first? And anything else he should do with chase before the business southwest while he's under? I'm about to go under 5/24 myself. I'm thinking about either the Disney or the Hyatt or both this year for myself. (The Disney so I can get family to take referrals as we have a Disney wedding next year so I can use all the bonuses I can get lol)

I currently have
Both personal SW
SW Biz
CSR
CF
CFU
IHG
CIP
Marriot
Marriot Biz
SPG
SPG Biz
Old delta amex (I just keep for credit history)
Amazon Visa

I am thinking I can refer him to both southwest cards this year. I'm thinking I should open the hyatt or Disney and then refer him to that before he opens the southwest biz, or does someone else have a better idea? I'm really trying to churn for Disney gift cards as I can use them to pay on the wedding. Because of this I'm also not too worried about spends for the bonuses. Guide me oh smart ones :)

If you have the CP for the rest of this year..I’d wait until the end of 2019...beginning of 2020 to apply and get the bonuses from a SW business and personal card so you get the CP for 2020 and 2021 as far as referrals you can refer from your personal but there aren’t any business referrals

Until the end of the year you could refer him to the CIP....and you both could open the other Chase business cards CIC and CIU...spacing them out every 2-3 months..if you can get a lot of referrals from the Disney card open that as well
