Well that's a game changer. Not that I'll be opening the Lux card anytime soon, but I didn't plan to open it at all as I don't think we'll get the value out of the AF. However, if you can downgrade later to keep AmEx happy for account age, that might be back on the table. Can you hold more than one card with AmEx? Like if I kept the regular SPG card, could also I downgrade to a 2nd SPG card? (like you can with Chase) I'll have to go read your thoughts now :) Maybe that's been answered

Good catch. I forgot to address that point. I’ll add it to the post later.

YES! You can have more than one of the same Amex card, you just can’t get more than one bonus on the same product unless you apply with no lifetime language terms. For example, most recently, lots of churners were signing up for second Amex Gold cards for the extra cap on 4x supermarkets because each card account is limited to $25k/yr.

So while I thought about suggesting, don’t downgrade to the personal SPG/Bonvoy Amex if you’ve never had that card, because you won’t be able to get the bonus, it wouldn’t matter for the timeframe we’re talking about — post-August 2019 — when the Amex SPG personal card won’t be available for new signups anyway.

If you currently hold the personal SPG card and intend to keep it, you can still downgrade the SPG Lux/Bonvoy Brilliant to it/Bonvoy Amex after August.

Rear Window is a favorite. 12 Angry Men. Rio Bravo.

Added Rio Bravo. I saw 12 Angry Men years ago, it's a good movie.

North by Northwest is great- cheese and all. Also, To Catch a Thief. And Charade. And It Happened One Night (not Cary Grant, but Cary Grant always makes me think of Clark Gable).

Added these too!

Need to check out Dick VanDyke - haven't seen that show in years, and I love him (DH hasn't forgiven him yet for the accent in Mary Poppins, but maybe one day...) We've been watching the Waltons lately! I'd love to find "new" TV shows that are good for the whole family - we wind up watching either stuff that is super old or the Great British Baking Show when we are watching something as a family. We had hopes for the new Lost in Space, but while it is really fun, and good for us and the teen, there is way too much peril for the little one to watch it with us. My teen and I love The Good Place, but its too snarky and would be over the little one's head. Its hard to find that sweet spot of entertaining for all yet gentle these days - seems like lots of old movies/TV had that going for them.

How about Facts of Life, Golden Girls, Murder She Wrote, the original Magnum PI, Charles in Charge? I grew up watching those, oh and Night Court. They don't necessarily hold up that well, they are very of the time they were made but could be good options.

Exactly, grab the bonus on the SPG before it goes away if you haven't had it before, but then everyone can downgrade their Lux without FOMO. Hm, maybe the Marriott Biz still gets kicked to the curb if I can get two 35k nights from 2 SPG's on the same account  Just put that $99 towards the one year of Lux AF instead. This gets interesting now.

And for the spreadsheet, I drive a minivan(and love it) too...and its a Honda...and we own three other Honda Accords.
I have refrained from discussing my cars since I didn't want to add to the "traffic" in this thread, but since it's for THE SPREADSHEET....:magnify::D

My first car was a 1967 Mercury Cougar (dating myself here!) that only lasted nine months before I put it in a ditch.

My second car was a 1972 Datsun 1200 that was LITERALLY held together with bubble gum and baling wire. I had a leak in the bottom of my gas tank that was "fixed" with bubble gum and I would put in a dollars worth of gas (dating myself again!) to get to work and another dollar to get home. I ran out of gas more times than I care to remember.

Since then I've owned:
  • 1974? Datsun 260z (loved)
  • 1978 Toyota Celica (hated)
  • 1984 Datsun 200sx that I paid for with a credit card back in 1987 (making this whole rambling on point)
  • 1991 Honda CR-X that I LOVED but had to give up because my infant daughters carseat wouldn't even fit in the passenger seat and there was NO back seat
  • 1993 Saturn 4dr
  • 1998 Candy Apple Red Dodge minivan (LOVED LOVED LOVED)
  • 2003 Chevy Suburban (loved the vehicle until I had to stop at the gas pump, which was frequently)
  • 1998 Toyota Camry (bought for the dd to learn to drive on but I drove frequently to avoid putting gas in the Burb)
  • 1997 Honda Accord (bought for the DD after above car was totalled on her 17th birthday; she wasn't even driving, I was. Hit by uninsured, unlicensed, high on heroin, @ss*&%#!)
  • 2011 Honda CR-V that I hated and finally passed on to dh for him to run into the ground with his outside sales job (it replaced his Dodge Sprinter van that has over 400k miles on it)
My current car is a 2015 Toyota Rav4. Must haves when we bought it: Driver 1 & 2 seat adjustment, sunroof, heated seats.

Boy, have I come a long way. And did so in a LOT of cars! I'm sure I have missed one or two and I forgot about the 1967 Mustang fastback and the 1990 Corvette that are in the pole barn that don't get driven much.

A deal has been reached on legislation that will reopen the U.S. government through Feb. 15. I wonder how quickly this will affect TSA...I'm flying out to Orlando tomorrow.

I believe all Federal Govt employees are required to report to work immediately. Obviously don't know if that means you'll move any faster, but in theory there should be more agents there.

I saw that and got excited...if I could have 2 R-Cs and keep the Lux/Brilliant than that would be three 50,000 night redemptions, which could be pretty awesome.

FOMO on the RC card, that I didn't even know about until I started reading this thread. And by then it was too late. ;)

I need to get a new passport and do precheck for myself and GE for me and DH... I should start submitting stuff now and maybe the government will stay open long enough between now and when I go to Japan next August for me to get it all done.
I'm in the same boat. Still need to get one with my married name. Think I'll put in DHs Precheck tonight... why not?

Yup, the AMEX envelope in the mailbox, thanks dh for signing up for the pay over time option! So, I have confirmation, but no proof of the 10k. Grrrrrrrrrrr.

When I went crazy in 11/17 and got FIVE cards in one month (what was I thinking???) that was one of the five (back in the not subjected to 5/24 rule). Of the subsequent cull a year later, it's the only one remaining. It has pretty good benefits and doubles as a weapon (LOL-due to the heft).

Beginner-ish question:
Leaving for Disney tomorrow, trying to decide best card to put meals on. Sapphire preferred or Navy Fed flagship. Flagship is 3x travel (charge to room, codes as travel) whereas chase is 2x, but seems more flexible? I feel like it's still better to use the flagship and use the cash to book a future travel if that's the way we decide to use rgen, instead of booking through the chase portal. Does that make sense? I've been packing all day, my brain is running on empty haha

OMgosh! I love all those shows you mentioned. Grew up watching them all!!

Me too. As a child, I loved Charles in Charge. I also liked Small Wonder, Silver Spoons, and Out of this World.

DH just applied for Global Entry renewal. Hoping to get in before they shut down again.

Do you know how long it takes? I still haven't used my CSR credit for it and wanted to apply, but have been holding off due to the shutdown. I'm guessing 3 weeks is too short, in case of another shutdown?

I'm getting FOMO on...I'm not sure exactly what... I haven't had the time to thoroughly figure out whatever the whole Marriot/Bonvoy/SPG/RC/Lux/Amex/Chase situation is yet or how it fits into my churning timetable, and I've never had any Marriott cards or points, so I'm clueless. But it seems like everyone is talking about it, so I want in! Lol.

Golden Girls is my favorite show ever, hands down!! I watch it almost every day :-) It's funny how some of the topics are relevant today!

Tried AMEX again, oh yes, you signed up for pay over time, but there is no 10k offer for you. Feel free to call and discuss if you think this is wrong.
