DH approved for the Amex No fee Hilton card offering 100,000 points after 1,000 spend. This will pay for the Hotel Coronado next summer. I was approved for the Barclays aviator business card, 50,000 AA miles after one purchase. Also picked up the Citi Business AA matched to 60,000 miles plus $250 statement credit after 2,000 spend.
I received written confirmation today of the 20,000 AA mile match on my Citi Business Card. 60,000 AA miles for 2k spend and a $250 AA gift card. Between this and the AA miles on the aviator, I'll have 110,000 AA miles for 2k spend! Yay!

So your son is looking to open a SW biz card now? Did he close a SW personal or biz recently? I guess regardless, as long as he's not opening the EXACT same card that he closed, he's probably fine.
Did you call Citi again for the match? Got a letter that they are matching me to 60,000 for 2k spend. Also got a $250 credit for AA gift card.

Yup, the AMEX envelope in the mailbox, thanks dh for signing up for the pay over time option! So, I have confirmation, but no proof of the 10k. Grrrrrrrrrrr.

Hey, DH got that letter today too! As I look back thru my pile of mail I realize I got snail mail confirmation too a couple days ago, so I was wrong about what I said before.

Tried AMEX again, oh yes, you signed up for pay over time, but there is no 10k offer for you. Feel free to call and discuss if you think this is wrong.

If my dh adds me, online, as an account manager, can I call AMEX on his behalf??

Yes!

Yes!
Thanks!! Probably won't help, they will probably still call me a liar, but being able to call for him is a big benefit.

Heard from DH sort of frantically at lunch. When we told the ILs about the cruise, we told them it was up to them if they wanted to invite DHs aunt along (paying her own way). I guess MIL texted him asking if it was too late to add her. Those two are thick as thieves most days :) Aunt is a blast too. I'm hoping MIL can talk her into selling an old wedding ring finally - she's been married twice, but the ring she still has is from a guy who was just HORRID. As soon as they finally split she gave MIL the ring to keep for her, because she didn't want to deal with it then. MIL still has it, and has been trying for YEARS to get her to sell it and use it for travel. Maybe a Disney cruise will be the push she needs :)

It looks like we might be cutting the Disney/Universal days from the trip though. All of DHs 3 remaining grandparents aren't in the best of health, so the ILs aren't sure about being gone that long (also knowing them, they think that way they'll save us all money too). Hopefully we'll get it all straightened out tonight, so I can get some hotel rooms booked. I figure we're probably still decently ahead of a lot of the vacation crowd, but I worry since it's all summer travel.

We'll probably still try to work out a long weekend of some sort with Disney and Universal. Maybe we can plan it around DAH... :scratchin

Beginner-ish question:
Leaving for Disney tomorrow, trying to decide best card to put meals on. Sapphire preferred or Navy Fed flagship. Flagship is 3x travel (charge to room, codes as travel) whereas chase is 2x, but seems more flexible? I feel like it's still better to use the flagship and use the cash to book a future travel if that's the way we decide to use rgen, instead of booking through the chase portal. Does that make sense? I've been packing all day, my brain is running on empty haha

If you don't have a lot of URs and a specific plan for them I'd stick with the Navy Fed Flagship. Cash back is always good.

I saw that and got excited...if I could have 2 R-Cs and keep the Lux/Brilliant than that would be three 50,000 night redemptions, which could be pretty awesome.

I did NOT! Thanks for linking it. Boy, that nugget was really buried in there, huh?

I agree the RC is better than the SPG Lux, but @tink1970 ’s got a good point about another 50k FN cert! I’d be very tempted to upgrade my Marriott Premier Plus to the RC for that!

I’m assuming that due to the CARD Act, we won’t be able to upgrade until we’ve had our card product for a year, and that both the old Marriott Premier and newer Marriott Premier Plus will be able to upgrade to the RC.

Thank you @SouthFayetteFan for starting the new thread! Already over 100 pages...it'll hit 1,000 before we know it!

I'm not one to comment much, but thought I'd share an update that I hit the $10,000 spend for the AMEX Biz Plat a few days ago and my 100k MR points have already posted! (This is the deal that you can only get by calling in - PM @Lain if interested). I opened the card on 11/28/18 for the triple dip and it's a little scary how fast we met the spend, all organically. A third of the charges went to rent via Plastiq, one third WDW, and the other third just everyday spend. The sad thing is that we had to cancel the WDW trip so we got refunded, but the spend still counted. I think I now have to make that up somehow or potentially get in trouble with the RATs, right? I do have another MSR that I'm working on but can continue to charge regular small amounts on the Biz Plat, it will just take awhile to spend another $3,000 to make up for it! Will that make the RATs happy?

Happy Ending to Marriott Travel Package saga.......

A bit O/T but I know a few of us have had issues with the Travel Packages obtained pre-August.....I won't go into the full details of my problems getting this sorted, but a quick summary......4.5 hours on the phone - agents not having a clue what to do post-merger - was hung up on 3 times after an agent had 'gone to check with a supervisor' or 'transferring you to the correct dept' - each time I was on hold for an age and then the line went dead - 1 very strongly worded email to marriott CS about the unprofessional nature of agents just hanging up on people. I was never rude because I understand that Marriott had not prepared these agents (or their systems) properly, but just hanging up on customers is not acceptable.

Anyway, I had pretty much given up on this, when out of the blue, ~9 weeks after I sent my email to Marriott CS, I received a message apologizing for the poor service and giving me a complimentary upgrade to a Cat. 5 Certificate. Great, I thought - I had an upcoming 5 night stay at a Cat 5 property I'll use it for that. Oh no.....they absolutely refused to apply it to anything less than a 7 night stay - offered to change my res to 7 nights but stated I would be responsible for the resort fees for the whole week if I left early. I thought about doing this, but canceled that res as I found a better deal at a Hilton.

Soooo......DW and I decided to do a staycation whilst the kids are at Grandma's in the summer and I have finally attached my cert to a 7 night booking at a property that is currently booking at $2800 + taxes for the week.

In the end, I kinda had to invent a reason to use it, but DW and I are really looking forward to it. Should be a fun week.

Do you know how long it takes? I still haven't used my CSR credit for it and wanted to apply, but have been holding off due to the shutdown. I'm guessing 3 weeks is too short, in case of another shutdown?

DH is getting a renewal which should ordinarily be quicker. Usually 3 weeks should be enough time BUT because of the shutdown, they probably will have a huge backlog of cancelled appointments, so your guess is as good as mine. His expires in April so at least he has an application in.

I need to get a new passport and do precheck for myself and GE for me and DH... I should start submitting stuff now and maybe the government will stay open long enough between now and when I go to Japan next August for me to get it all done.

I've had GE for several years, but not TSA Pre. Is there any reason why we might want both?

I'm pretty sure GE includes precheck (I only have GE and get precheck using my known traveler number, or whatever it's called).

I also need a new passport -- mine expires in December of this year but I'm really not keen on sending it in until the government thing is more settled.

Don't forget to update your GE profile with your new passport number! They had made some changes to the system so both Dh and I had to create new accounts to update it.

You get pre check with GE. The only reason I can think of is if you don't plan to keep GE long term but at that point you could just apply for pre check before GE expires.
