Last report was that the Cat 8 pricing would start around March sometime, so I guessed the peak/off peak would roll out around then as well. But the peak and off peak prices are already set AFAIK, so depending on the day it can one of 3 options - a peak, standard, or off peak price. Best case is the days you want get moved to off-peak and you can rebook at the lower price.

Thanks..looked again and the rate says 50,000....then lowered to 45,000 so maybe it’s off peak :confused3

Having a slow afternoon at work, so posting to say that the 20,000 Hilton points from my referral of DH to the Ascend card were in my Hilton account this morning. This makes me hopeful there won't be any issue with DH's 150k Hilton point SUB once we meet MSR. He did not get the popup, I'm just leery of these no pop up, no bonus DPs.

I feel for all you mid-westerners. Stay safe!

My DH had to see his accounts on the Oregon coast, so while he is out working I am sitting in our in room jacuzzi looking out over the ocean, where it is currently 50*. Rough life, but somebody gots to do it!

My moniker was Commando Tour Guide Mom when my kids were young. I am currently stressing out that our March cruise and 5 day land vacation has very little planned but dh says that's how he wants to roll this time. Not sure how I am going to survive this.???

have a backup plan just incase the go with the flow seems to be going nowhere.

Holy crap fedex is expensive. Went to send the baby clothes, less than 5lbs to my friend in Toronto cheapest was 90 bucks! Guess I'll cross my fingers with the post office.

1) amex doesnt really have any restrictions on when u need to wait... u should be good to go for SPG personal, although u MAY get a popup saying your not eligible. If you do get one, just make sure u follow our guidance so u dont get the pop up ever! :] there might be a rule blocking you from future bonuses though, im not 100% sure about this one.

2) yes. u can upgrade from a CF --> CSR.

edit: looks your your good with SPG and SPG Lux --> https://frequentmiler.boardingarea.com/navigating-marriotts-byzantine-credit-card-rules/

thanks @Lain for posting this link.

Thank you both!

Hoping someone can answer this question for me! Dh has the SPG AmEx -- we've never used the free night certificate on renewal. Can we get the certificates from previous years or do they "expire" (we've never asked for one before)!

They expire after 1 year.

They will expire after 1 year, but I believe the free nights on the Amex cards are new. So be looking for it this anniversary date for your card.

Hi Everyone! I pop in and out of here, but just can't keep up. I can't believe you're almost at 150 pages. I think the last time I stopped in, the new thread just started. It looks great and I really appreciate everyone's open advice and knowledge sharing! Just want to also say, I used a DISer's link to apply for the Rose Gold on 1/4 (and was instantly approved) so hopefully someone gets a surprise referral bonus soon. :)

I do have a couple of questions:
1. Is it too soon to apply for SPG Personal in Feb? I have a little FOMO since I've never had a Marriott card and it's going away. I'm locked out of any chase cards (7/24). Originally (and still) plan on getting the SPG Lux later this year as I could really use the credit and 50k free night. So I'm not sure if getting the personal now would decrease my chances at the Lux?

2. Does anyone know if the Chase Freedom can be upgraded to the CSR? Since I'm locked out from applying, I don't mind not getting the bonus but hoping I could upgrade to use the higher redemption rate and travel credits.

TIA!

1. The SPG Personal is a credit card, so the number you're looking at is 2/90 (2 Amex credit cards opened in the last 90 days). Amex will not approve another credit card if you've already opened 2 credit cards in the last 90 days. The Rose Gold card is a charge card and therefore doesn't count against the 2/90 rule.

Since you have the Rose Gold card, go to Amex's Refer a Friend website to generate a referral link, paste it into an incognito window, and see if you can find the SPG Personal card to refer yourself. I tried looking for the SPG Personal referral this weekend but couldn't find it, so I'm not sure if Amex has removed the ability to generate new referral links for the SPG Personal ahead of its discontinuation after 2/12/19. If you cannot self-refer from one of your cards, please consider applying through a DISchurner link (which are still working).

Getting the SPG Personal now will not preclude you from getting the SPG Lux (Bonvoy Brilliant) later this year. However, getting one of the Chase Marriott cards will disqualify you (refer to Navigating Marriott’s Byzantine Credit Card Rules).

Although you are 7/24, it appears you could still get the Marriott Biz (because it appears not to be subject to 5/24, as discussed on DoC and in this thread in some detail over the weekend). Getting the Marriott Biz now, may not preclude you from getting the bonus on the SPG Personal. See my post on that here. However, getting the Marriott Biz would preclude you from getting a bonus on the SPG Lux later this year. See Navigating Marriott’s Byzantine Credit Card Rules.

If you value the SPG Lux's 50k Free Night certificate, don't apply for the Marriott Biz. But note that the 50k FN cert will post 6-8 weeks after your first cardmember anniversary, which means you'll have to pay the SPG Lux's second year annual fee in order to keep the card open to earn the FN. But there are options to minimize your cost to get that FN cert.

@Albort mentioned this earlier, but be careful with Amex. If you're planning to keep opening Amex cards for their bonuses, you need to keep Amex happy by putting continued spend on the cards you already have. If Amex sees a drop-off in your spend after you've met MSR and received a bonus, they'll assume you're a gamer who is only opening their cards for the bonus and may flag your account with a pop up that appears on future applications and denies you a bonus on any new cards based on your "history." While the SPG Personal's MSR is only $3k in 3 months, it might be best to spread out your spend so that your monthly statements are more even, rather than paying one or two big expenses and hitting the MSR fast, then sock drawing the card. And keep putting spend on your Amex cards. I'd hate for you to get the pop up when you're ready to apply for the SPG Lux.

Note that the SPG Lux will have an elevated bonus of 100k Marriott points after $5k MSR/3 months from 2/13/19 to 4/24/19.

2. Yes.

You can apply for the business card while holding the existing cards, but since the rule change last year you can't get another personal until you cancel the existing ones. The business and personal cards are counted separately. Even with a legit business, some suggest for the business card just applying as a Sole Proprietor with your SSN and business name exactly the same as you name for simplicity. In an odd twist, people with actual businesses seem to have a harder/longer time getting a Chase business card than those of us with "businesses". If you're not in a rush you can apply with all your legit s-corp paperwork, but Chase might want the documentation and such before approval.

As for the credit score, it shouldn't take much of a hit if you're going to be replacing that credit line with a new card anyway. You can also move some of your existing CL to other Chase cards before closing it. (keeping in mind it's easier to get approval if your Chase CL to listed income ratio is less than 50%, usually) If it's an age of accounts concern, just know that your closed accounts remain on your report for up to 10 years and continue to influence your score, so it's not usually as dramatic of a hit as people think.

Even better! My $45 still plays hide and seek as I try to decide what I want to buy to use it up. Their site is glitchy as I'll put something eligible in the cart with something that wasn't and I won't get it to apply, so I remove the ineligible item, refresh or update and still nothing. Empty the whole cart, start with just the eligible item and then it'll show up again. It's been bizarre. I'm half tempted to stock up on a year's supply of Mac & Cheese and have done with it.

Thanks for the info!

Yes, SW started a new policy where they will not allow more than one personal card so he would need to cancel both of them before applying for a new personal card. Alternatively you could apply to both of the cards and hold the companion pass.

Thank you for the info! I also have both personal cards already so it looks like one of us needs to cancel.

Yeah it’s not so bad with only two people. I will say that October was hard to get extra FPS after the initial 3
The worst experience I had looking for extra FP+ was the week leading up to Easter last year. Virtually nothing by the afternoon. Definitely crowded!

Ooo, yeah, nab that 45K redemption. Sure, it might be off peak, or it might be a Pointsaver rate, but if you reserve it at 45K then you've locked in that rate, even when you do it as a points advance reservation.

I don't have Lain's spreadsheet, so I'm not sure if you're using points or a FN certificate? My approach for points is going to be for book-4-get-5th-night-free or airline transfers with Marriott points. Otherwise I'll string along some combination from FN certificates since I have 5 to work with from SPG Biz x 2, Marriott x 2, SPG Lux x 1.

Thanks for noting this. It's not a problem for me since the Rose Gold is my first venture into Amex.

I will be sure to use a support link once I choose a path.

Hm, you've given me something to think about. I'll have to mull this over.
SPG Personal + Marriott Biz = 150k bonus, two 35k FN cert, $194 AF, would most likely keep both for the annual FN

OR

SPG Personal + SPG Lux = 175k bonus, one 35k/one 50k FN cert, $545 AF, would probably not keep Lux for more than 2 years risking the popup.

Called Beauty on the Fly and sell for $10 bucks. I love mine!

Have you had any trouble getting it through the TSA? I just looked it up and it's listed at $4.95 with good reviews, except one of the few that I read complained that the TSA people made her take her stuff out of it and shove it into a smaller TSA bag. I always worry about this stuff.

:rotfl: was she afraid she wouldn't eat anything? I was pretty bad on my high school trip to London back then, I swear I survived on croissants.

LOL. I don't know. DD thought it was ridiculous, but then the girls would all get together late at night and have a snack party, so she said she was glad that the kid brought the extra suitcase (esp. since DD didn't have to carry it).

Holy crap fedex is expensive. Went to send the baby clothes, less than 5lbs to my friend in Toronto cheapest was 90 bucks! Guess I'll cross my fingers with the post office.

The flat rate boxes at the USPS get there quickly and are much more reasonably priced. I use them in various sizes to send care packages to my DD at college.
