Disney to cancel FPs if room is cancelled

That's a very interesting thought. That could very well be. I have been wondering why they didn't slam the 74 day glitch shut as soon as they realized it was happening. It seems like that would be a very easy update (even with required regression testing) and it's been open for over a week. I have thought in the past (for example SDFP) that Disney lets strategists do what they do because they use them to collect data on how people use the system and look for future holes with how they expect to change the system (I don't think Disney IT is as completely and totally incompetent as they seem sometimes). This would definitely fit that model. And possibly explain some of the glitchiness to the glitch.

The sad thing is that no one really *wants* to make their FPs 90 days out. Scheduling FPs is just what people have done in order to gain an advantage. As much as I hate to say it, I think WDW should go with something similar to the Shanghai Premier Access. It is an FP package for all the most popular rides, with no assigned return times. You cannot purchase it until you are in the park. However, they also have demand based pricing, so you definitely pay a hefty premium on peak days. Unfortunately, I know this first hand. But as painful to the wallet buying the PA was, the rest of the day was so relaxing and freeing knowing we could do the attractions we wanted to do when we wanted to do them.

In park, day-of FPs are still available, similar to the old paper FP. I don’t necessarily love that aspect, but certainly this could be tweaked such that maybe you could make 3 FPs on MDE once you are in the park.

It isn’t perfect. There would need to be some tweaks because there are people who don’t rope drop or people who do park hop. However, planning 90 days out instead of 60 days out is just planning insanity. I get to pay for the privilege to plan even further out? This, to me, would potentially be a better way for Disney to level the playing field and still get their $$.

All that being said, there’s no way they would go in this direction because of the $$ required to program these kinds of changes.

I'm somewhat surprised more people haven't been talking about the changes to the umbrella policy. Maybe I missed something, or maybe this isn't the right forum for it, but I think that's a much bigger impact to the FP pool. And I think the "FPs will be cancelled if resort res is cancelled" is really more tied to that than anything else (and used as a scare tactic against TAs who were using all of the loopholes to book FPs in advance for their clients).

But, then what would be the advantage of staying at a Disney resort? They've been promoting /marketing this "advantage" of booking your FPs early. If they offer a same day purchase option, then that "advantage" goes away.

I am not familiar with Disney Shanghai, but do they have thousands of Disney hotel rooms to fill?

I think they are simply going to have people pay to have their FPs windows open early..

Would hope that means all attractions available at that window, what a waste if not.

I think I would prefer to just buy the ones we want.

They don’t have thousands of rooms. However, it’s easy to resolve. Disney could allow on-site folks to make their FPs when they check in, for duration of stay.

Honestly, with the number of hotels that now have 60 day access, that perk has gotten watered down anyway.

Which is why if they offered a paid option to open the FP window earlier, many would jump on it. Even with the tiers. And all the manpower that Disney would need is just a few IT folks setting this up and testing behind the scenes.

They are not taking away the 60-day and 30-day windows because not only have they convinced us that it is an advantage to stay onsite, but also this is what they are using to help operationally to staff the lines. Fewer FPs, fewer CMs needed. They need to know that at least a few weeks prior to staff.

I also read that the Falcon ride will not offer Fp+ at first!

I kinda like what they are doing. This way it opens sooner and gives guests time to take in surroundings and one of the attractions, instead of waiting even longer to open the land. It will also give them a feel for popularity when the first attraction is SB only, while it will be popular-it will show if its going to be insane/er or not. It also gives guests who do not want to invest in FP+ for that ride (assuming that happens down the rode), a window to check it out.

Yea, although I'm not sure the dust has settled yet.

Yes, I'm sure the dust settling will include for-pay-only FPs for the SW:GE rides. "Due to popular customer demand..."

But I do think the dust has settled on this particular rumor. And I think these "changes" were simply to reduce legitimate split-stays and to reduce locals getting 60 day rolling windows.

All done in an effort to justify selling 60-day access to two off-site resorts. I don't think Disney cares at all about strategists. Too small fish for them.

So, a question for the FP Strategists. Is the overlapping a split stay as of right now working? I don't want to cheat the system, I just want to book my full window at 60 days.

You mean the third, length of stay reservation? Yes I believe so far that has worked for those who have done it.

Yep, thanks. I will watch for any changes, but just made yet another reservation to cover the full stay. Silly when my split is 2 deluxe resorts, 1 CL...If CL FP are still offered then no need, but for now want to cover my bases.

Well it looks like I will be testing out what happens to FP+ booked 60+ days out (prior to the system changes) when you cancel a resort reservation less than 30 days away.

I found a CL AP room rate for an additional $169 on top of my current BC room including tax for 4 nights so I jumped on it super early in the morning and have to cancel my standard view room. The reason I could not modify my current reservation is because it was booked via a travel agent and I was afraid the room would disappear from inventory by the time I woke up and got in contact with my TA. The dates are exactly the same and they are both linked in MDE. Hoping since I am less than 30 days out nothing happens.

If any of my FP+ disappear, Disney Signature Services will be getting a call! :rotfl:

Where and when??!! That's the lowest rate I've even seen, by like half!

From reading posts on another thread, my understanding is that it’s only $169 more to stay CL than non CL for his 4 nights. I agree, a CL rate of $169 a night would be amazing, and probably hasn’t been seen for 20+ years .
