uggh I am either spoiled or being a baby. My flight tomorrow (flying alone) is now almost full and there are people sitting next to me! I was hoping for at least an empty middle seat. So far the flight hasn't cost me anything - paid for by work and the upgrades I did do (got away from people for a short while) were covered by the statement credit on my new CC. I could pay $24 and move closer to the front and there would be an empty seat next to me; at least it shows that now. I'd hate to pay that and then someone picks the other seat. Does the CC get you any upgrade? Wondering if I ask nicely tomorrow if they would do anything.

Oh and flying Boeing MD88s for all flights.

Hi @wed100105, another tugger here. TUG drastically changed our travel options. Before timeshares I used to plan 1-2 weeks of vacation a year. Last year we did 10 weeks of timeshare travel. This year I have 12 weeks scheduled for myself, family and friends. I have been able to make wonderful trades and helped friends and family go on some nice vacations. Our group here has taught me about cheap airfare, using points for car rentals and Disney tickets and the occasional hotel redemptions to extend some of my stays.

Wow 12 weeks! :worship:
Echoing this. TUG changed our vacations (for the better) a few years ago. We wouldn't have been able to stay at quality vacation condos (generally 2 br Marriotts) 2-3 weeks a year without our timeshare. Up next - spring skiing in Park City!

This thread here has now changed my perspective on airfare and general travel expenses (car rentals, tickets, even paying DVC dues with gcs). I too am so grateful for people openly sharing their knowledge and advice on various forums!

Intersting. So it's possible to earn the CIP sign-up bonus a second time for the same person even if the first card is still open and you are less than 24 months from the first sign up bonus? Is there some kind of trick to getting this approved?

No special trick, although some are choosing to use a middle initial if not on the already open CIP or vice versa. I have yet to confirm the bonus will post since we don't even have the card yet, but DH was approved yesterday for another CIP using his SSN and he still has an open CIP that he got in March 2018 (less then 12 months, and definitely less than 24 months since he got the bonus). DPs are suggesting no issues with the bonuses posting on the second (or third) cards. This just seems to be a glitch or loophole that Chase hasn't noticed or hasn't chosen to close off.

Further reading about the max this morning, and I'm on my phone so no links. And not to get political but...

Per a cnn article the faa and boeing were working on the software fix but it got delayed by the shutdown and is supposed to be in place by april. I realize how entwined with the govt boeing is so it's possible that because of all this they will force the faa to play their hand and help place the blame on the shutdown. Not like companies don't do shady stuff like that.

Per article on cbc.ca canada has banned them from their airspace so that affects all carriers and grounds their own. The guy in charge said it's based on new unproven facts. So dealing with a theory at this point.

Per the tv news and an article somewhere some us pilots have complained of the issue but were able to fix it. So training is important here. Other us pilots have said the planes are fine.

Hopefully we find out actual info from the black boxes soon so everyone actually knows and isn't working off assumptions.
Yeah I came to post that Canada has grounded the Max 8. That leaves the US alone pretty much ...

Observation from Reddit that they are notified of Chase cards being added to Mint before they're notified by Chase they've been approved. This happens even when the card is not auto-added to a login. Not that this will stop people from wanting to call the status line every hour but this could mean you'll know even sooner.

Looking for advice,
I have Southwest Priority Credit Card, this is our main card. We also have the SW Plus credit card. I plan to drop that one once we use up all the points on that one. I also have the Disney Premier Visa, I will drop that one after our 2019 WDW trip.
With that said I was just told to change from SW to Chase Sapphire Preferred. Is this card better than SW? I don't carry a balance. Flight points are important, its how I can go to WDW as often as we do.
Thank you for your help.

My two best friends LOVE that show. I was watching Hoarders the other night and a new show called The Toe Bro came on right afterwards. I told one of my friends about it because she works on a clinical trial involving feet. She LOVED the show. I literally got nauseous just watching the 15 second preview for it.

No to feet. Cannot imagine a scenario I would willing watch that show (or, the pimple one either, so maybe I'm just squeamish).

:offtopic: Sorry but need to vent...... Mother in Law has been developing a 'relationship' with some guy she met through an online dating site just over a month ago. She has been like a teenager in love, sneaking off to send texts and emails etc. Tonight she texts me to ask what is the best way to send an iPhone to Turkey. Turns out he is supposedly over there on business for 3 months - has broken his phone and needs her to send him a replacement as they are really difficult to get in Turkey for foreigners.

As you can imagine - I went into full SCAM alert mode. I feel bad, but I had to tell her what I thought and she didn't want to hear it. The thing is - it wouldn't surprise me if she goes ahead and does it anyway. There is nothing I can do to stop her. What really bothers me is that next time she won't tell me because she knows what my reaction will be.

AAAAAAARRRGGGH - I need to have a think how to handle this. :confused3

Well, having reflected on it overnight, she at least seems willing to consider the possibility that something shady is going on. If he is who he claims to be then there is no reason he couldn't order a phone himself and have it shipped if necessary. DW is going to follow up with her this evening.

Oh, that's so rough. I knew someone who got sucked in by a Russian "girlfriend" and was really resistant to the idea that there was anything sketchy about it. A very kind and internet savvy friend sat with him and said "ok, lets just find out some more about her" and proceeded to unearth stock photos, other inconsistencies in her story that helped him see what was going on. Really lucky he had help from the friend - he was somewhat mentally disabled and had just received a sizable inheritance from his last living close relative, so a lot of damage could have been done.

Gotta look out for each other when things seem too good to be true!

I feel like I’ve become a little bit of a timeshare snob. I’ve come to love the Marriotts. Six of the scheduled weeks are in 2-3 BR Marriotts that I have traded in to for about $510/wk. I have a 2 BR Ko Olina on Oahu for December. We will have to see how airfare falls in to place.

Just praying that this storm knocks the power out at work so I can go home...

DH checked his email at 7:50AM this morning to see if his work had closed the office, and saw the email saying the office would close early today at 9:00AM (it's 20 minutes away). He went in anyway and is still there. :sad2:

That was our case. DH got the CIP 5/18, referred me and I got it 1/19 and then I just referred him and he was approved 3/19. I was nervous, especially since it was in DH's name and he doesn't like talking with them about this stuff, but it all went through fine. DH is a "jr" and I did leave that off the app, but I don't know if that matters or not, after all, you are putting your SSN right on the application.

Ridiculous. A couple years ago they didn't call us off until 2pm, which meant a full day for me and most of 2nd shift was already in.

DH says they are losing a lot of power in his area. He's only 10min away

Hi and welcome! AFAIK you can't change a SW card to one of Chase's own cards, you would need to apply for a CSP outright, but you need to be sure that you're 4/24 to do that. If you want better advice about this, please list all your cards you've opened in the past 24 months (even if you've closed them since opening).

Also, there's no requirement to have a SW card open to use your SW points, just in case you thought that.

Yeah I came to post that Canada has grounded the Max 8. That leaves the US alone pretty much ...

I think at this point they won't do anything until they know because of lawsuits. The delay due to the shutdown people will try and get money from whomever. Not sure you can sue the FAA but I'm sure someone will find a way.

Saw this blog post which is by an ex CNN aviation expert. Goes into the history of the max a bit and some about the Lion air plane and stuff. So weird, the blog won't let me highlight and copy :badpc:, but he says the Lion air plane didn't have an optional add on that would have helped prevent the issue, an indicator. This post further explains it with quotes from SW who has it on their planes.

(back on my laptop, home from the gym. yes I'm on the dis during walk intervals on the treadmill :surfweb:)

Stay safe! I need to turn on the weather channel. I really should have gone into meteorology but didn't realize that until after college. Love storm coverage.

Hello to my favorite collective mind on these boards!
After the merger, I was anti-Marriott. However, it will help me to use up my points in order to get some more (I hope that makes sense.)
I currently have the Marriott Rewards card and SPG Amex. DH has SPG Amex. We are both at 4/24 and have about $4,000ish in big spends coming up.
What can I open to get maximum Bonvoy points? (I cringe at using that phrase.) My current referral offer for the Marriott Chase is for 3 free nights, but I’d rather just points instead of nights.
Thank you in advance!

ETA: We also both have the CSP and CF. DH has the CIP. I got shot down in the pst when I tried to open a SW Business.

Which “Marriott Rewards” card (be specific with the product name)? When did you open this card, and when did you receive a bonus, if any, on this card?

Which SPG Amex do you and DH have — the personal one with a $95 fee? When did you and DH open your respective cards, and when did you receive your bonuses, if any, on your cards?

What is your */24 status? Your DH’s */24 status? Do you or DH have any other Amex cards?

Fortunately, the affected payments were made well in advance of their due dates so a small delay shouldn’t affect me. But definitely sounds like the downtime was unexpected.

Close early at 9am?? What time do they open?
