No more smoking or vaping in the parks

Disney just announced that smoking and vaping is now banned in the parks. There will be smoking areas outside the gates.

Also, effective today only ice packs, no more loose ice or dry ice permitted in the parks.

They will also be restricting stroller sizes. Stroller wagons will no longer be permitted.

I know I'll be in the minority here but I was so sad to read this morning's announcements. We have had so many really great trips to Disney, but I know my husband won't go back with a no-smoking policy in place. It isn't reasonable in the least to expect smokers to hike all the way back to the parking lot to have a cigarette, on top of all the walking that is already involved in a WDW vacation. Disney has to know this and I'm sure they don't care - they are busy enough that losing the ~20% of Americans who still smoke is a loss they're willing to accept. But on a personal level, I'm so disappointed that we'll never take that adults-only trip we've been talking about for years or give DD her 21st birthday wish with a Food & Wine trip.

I understand your pain, but personally, I'm glad that I won't have to smell that awful smell in the parks any longer.

Has your DH ever tried nicotine gum or a patch to get him through the day? Maybe that, with a toothpick, or something for his hands/mouth, will get him through the day?

Can you take your DD on your own for her 21st birthday? Your fun should not be dependent on his habit.

My boyfriend miiiiight walk to the smoking sections, but he is going to lose it if he has to go all the way to the car or the resort to get the cigarettes themselves. He might not even go anymore.

My question is whether you will physically be able to bring your cigarettes in the park with you or if you will have to leave the pack in your car or resort.
At Wide World of Sports you can not even bring them past the security checkpoint

As a smoker who follows the rules this saddens me. It was always a nice break to grab a Margarita or a slushy in Epcot, head to the smoking area and people watch. Just another reason for me to not go anymore. I am pretty sure it was those who didn't follow the rules that ruined it for others.

This. In January on a rather full Saturday, I walked behind a family who were cupping their cigarettes but obviously smoking, but who is going to address it in that setting.

I spoke to a guy a number of years ago who lit up while waiting for fireworks to start. He didn't get ugly. I had younger kids and so did he, so I was a bit surprised.

To me it would make the most sense to not allow them past security/bag check, otherwise you just end up with the exact scenario that happens right now, which is the people who don't follow the rules regardless light up wherever they want. I did actually notice several on my last trip.

We did too. And as someone who has asthma, that is very annoying. Too bad people can't follow the rules.

I personally am glad for it! Secondhand cigarette smoke and vaping are really bad for everyone around, and I am thankful to not be around it.

For those who will cancel plans due to this, I have to ask, why? Does a tiny chemical laden stick hold so much power over your life that you can't do the other things you enjoy without it? I just don't get it, but I have never been a smoker. And I wouldn't want anything like that to hold so much power over me and control my life like that.

With the stroller changes, does anyone know if the princess carriage rentals wi be banned? I can't figure out if they are considered a stroller or a wagon. It doesn't make a big difference to me, just wondering.

For many people, yes, it is next to impossible to quit smoking. Be glad you don't have something like that in your life.

I would have to imagine they are banned since there's no way they meet the size requirements they list.

It's a good policy, too many rule breakers who lit up anywhere they pleased.
I hope that the smoking area is far enough away so that the rest of us don't have to walk near it when entering the gates.

So your husband would not give his DD her birthday wish because of a smoke? Sounds like he has his priorities backwards.

Disney is simply resorting to "bans" because they fail to enforce their own set of rules... They really need to train staff to deal with guests who won't play nice. It wrecks it for everyone else who does!
