Star Wars Celebration: Chicago April 11-15, 2019

I understand. I completely disagree with the idea of a new planet but I didn’t get a vote.

I liked Doug Chiang's explanation.

They looked at doing Tattooine or mustafar or planets already in the movies.

But the planets were made to support characters.

So tattooine was desolate and boring and was basically holding Luke back.

I think that made a lot of sense, the planets in the movies as representations of the characters.

So Batuu is our planet for our story

I can dig it.

The way they explained it was to be able to sell more stuff (books, movies, merchandise). As they should. I just disagree. I’m almost 45 years old. I grew up playing Star Wars, as it was in the OT. I enjoy all the new stuff. But Star Wars will always be the OT to me. Seeing them take some elements of old but changing it is odd to me. YMMV

My husband and I grew up with it too, just a bit older than you. I can see your view point, but I also love a lot of the new stuff. I think having a child that has grown up during this 3rd phase, TFA and beyond, gives me a different appreciation for how each Star Wars fan is different. He, for instance, loves the prequels. We placate him and watch them occasionally, but we really love the originals the most and then the 3rd phase.

I like the idea of the condition of the Falcon on exiting depending on how well you did during the flight but I'm still concerned about how they're gonna handle who gets to do what role during the ride. I know if I've queued for hours (for example), I don't want to be stuck being an Engineer. I want to fly it! Like most people will. I'm also not keen on other people not with my group having an affect on how well we do but I guess I'll just have to live with it haha

As a younger newer fan I think this is the smartest way.
As an "older" fan (not THAT old... ;) ) I also agree. It's not about that IMO -- I think it's a matter of recognizing that this is a brand that needs to live and evolve -- not only anchor itself in the past. Smart move.

Yep I think that’s awesome.

Tantooine is also the birth place of Anakin.

Like I said, I didn’t get a vote so it is what it is. The average tourist and very casual Star Wars fan probably won’t know the difference anyway. It still looks like Star Wars (and I commend them for that).

For those who know the backstory of the land, when are we supposed to be? After episode 9?

I thought the last 20-30 mins were pretty good - some good little details and more info on the app and stuff

First part really had nothing new though
Guess I don't understand being critical until the end, at least. But this is the internet.

I hear you on that. I've been whining and shouting about not being the pilot for ages now. They still didn't say what the other front seat passenger will do.

I might not mind being a gunner.

But what will the engineers even do if the pilot is good?

I don't know what people were expecting here, to be disappointed in this... ... :confused3

Something new :)

Between Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker.

I am with you on some of the points. I don't really care about Kylo Ren and would much rather see Vader in the attraction. Vader, as an iconic villain, will still be going strong while no one remembers Kylo. But I guess it is what it is.

I believe it is inbetween episodes 7 and 8

I think if they did a whole park or something and could have had multiple lands it would have made more sense to recreate the different actual locations ... but with only one, which one do you pick? and what timeframe? The wouldn't do just the OT timeframe

I think they tried to incorporate different elements with some of the old (MF, etc.) but some new things for people to discover.

Is anyone else still watching the live stream? It's weird because I like Andi better on the Star Wars show pre-taped, but Anthony is much better live.

Please understand that I am as excited for GE as anyone. I had my room booked at CSR within 10 minutes of the opening date announcement. I’m not bagging on the land. I cried when they showed actual footage today (which was completely worth the stupid Coke thing). I’m glad there will be Easter Eggs from all the trilogies to discover. Obviously I’ll be looking for the OT things ;) I guess I was more surprised by what they chose of old and what they didn’t.
