Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS Information & Questions

Hi, this is my first post, and I am staying at the Yacht Club for the first time. I booked a garden/woods view and was hoping for anyone to give me insightful information about Yacht club rooms, the resort, or anything else I need to know. I am staying Nov. 26th to Dec. 1st.

:welcome: Welcome to the Dis. Everything you want to know is on the first page of this thread. Post 1 has a link to the Yacht Club info. Start there then come back with any questions. Dee, our fearless & awesome leader, keeps the first page very organized & up to date.

The Yacht Club is our favorite resort, we have stayed there at least once a year ( some years 2 or 3 times) for probably 20 years. Lots of friendly posters here & we’re all happy to help you out.

Random question here-would anyone have an idea where the lamp with the two monkeys on it in the YC lobby is from? Looking to purchase one as a gift and cannot find anything like it. TIA!

I don't know the answer to your question, but that lamp was the focal point of one of my favorite pictures from our Antics of the Orange Banded Monkeys trip in 2015 and has a very special place in my heart.

Hi, Can I please be added to the list for BC 7th to 13th January. Coming alone for the marathon weekend so if anyone is there and solo, would be good to meet up, even for the middle of the night bus trips to the start lines! Thanks

:welcome:

You bet!!!

There are already quite a few of our friends coming that weekend, so I'm sure you will be able to connect with some runners. And if you see any BOGP Lizards, you are definitely in good company @MickeyT

:cheer2:

I just booked a quick 2 night stay for us at the YC for the SWGE AP previews! The AP rate finally switched to include weekends and I snagged a room this AM 8/16-8/18. I had figured we would do a value resort to make it a cheap trip, but my DH really wanted to be walking distance to the preview so I didn’t argue much :rotfl:. I was so close to booking CL, and had planned to since that’s all I saw available earlier, but when I saw water view for $350 less for the 2 nights I just couldn’t justify that price difference for only 2 quick nights where we’ll be pretty busy anyway. What should I request? I’m thinking crescent lake view since I don’t want to see the quiet pool when paying for water view, and then leave it at that. I wouldn’t mind a SAB view either, and closer to the lobby/elevators, but I’m not sure if I should muddy the water by adding that all or just keep it simple.

:welcome: back!

I'll add you to the list.

You have had some great input and suggestions regarding the view and requests. I am contractually obligated to mention the Yacht Club Room View thread over on the Resorts Community Board- use the index on the first page to check out the descriptions of the waterview rooms that past guests have shared.

:thumbsup2

Last year we only had carry ons. We took ME from the airport to the hotel. Once at the the hotel we "checked" our carry ons with bell services. They give you a receipt for your bags. Then we went straight to EPCOT. We came back to the hotel, our room was ready and we got our bags from bell servides. They will also bring your bags up to your room for you from bell service.

:welcome: to the thread and thanks for your input.

I see you have a mother-daughter trip in September.

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1, Post 15.

I obviously didn't read through this entire thread so apologies if this is being discussed already but we are DVC and are very concerned about one of the biggest perks - walking at RD to the IG entrance of Epcot - being negated with the opening of the Gondolas in late September. Is anyone else worried about this and has anyone heard anything about ways to handle the soon-to-be large crowds there at RD?

As others have said, we really don't know the impact at this point or how well Disney has planned to prepare for the additional guests.

Lockers:

I'll add a warning/reminder in the locker post that in the event of a pool closing, the lockers are not accessible so plan accordingly.

Yes, we ran into that problem on our departure day a couple weeks ago. We had stuff in the locker as we were swimming in the am and then showering at the pool showers once we were already kicked out of our room. While I was showering my girls they closed the pool and once they close it's locked and you can't get back in. We ended up having to go DS in different shoes than what we had planned, but thankfully the pool reopened before we had to catch the ME that night, but def. something to think about.

I've never used the pool locker room in my previous stays. Are the lockers big enough to hold a backpack or two? We arrive on Saturday and will want to enjoy the pool after Epcot in the morning. I'm not counting on our room being ready until after 3:00, so want to be prepared for pool time and storing our clothes, etc. I'll have a 16 yo boy with me, too. Are the women's and men's locker rooms comparable? Many thanks!

The lockers are a decent size and there are multiple and free. I had my 17 year old son with me and he was able to use the locker/room shower fine.
Is there a lock on the locker that you reset? Or would we need to bring our own lock? Thanks!

:welcome: to the thread!

Do you have an upcoming trip to the resort?

:goodvibes

It's a number code you make up. You close it, lock it, enter your 4 digit code twice, it'll blink and then it's locked. You just enter the code to unlock.

Health Club and Spa:

I just learned that the Ship Shape Health Spa and Gym are temporarily closed for renovation. Estimated reopen date is Aug 9. I believe they are replacing the floors and some exercise equipment (more cardio, less weights).

While the work is taking place, guests of the Yacht & Beach Club will be shuttled to the Boardwalk to use their facilities if desired.

🏋️‍♂️

Just the fitness center, correct? My daughter has an appointment at the salon on 8/4, and they didn’t send us anything about being closed.
An update to my post yesterday, I call Salon Services this morning and the the CM I spoke with said that Ship Shape is closed M-F THIS WEEK and is supposed to reopen Saturday, Sunday at the absolute latest. She said that it on schedule. So, my reservation for Sunday is valid. Yay!!

@DisneyGirlMI or anyone who is there now- can you report back about whether the Spa/Health Club are now open?

:thanks:

Lockers at Stormalong Bay:

No charge, user-generated 4 digit code.

Please note that these lockers are located near Beaches & Cream but withing the gated pool area. In the event of weather-related or other pool shutdowns when guests are asked to leave the pool area, the lockers will not be accessible and you will be unable to retrieve your items until the pool area reopens

One week from today we will be checking in to Beach Club!! First time to even see this area!! Boardwalk area has eluded us for decades! We have been to Disney about 7 week long trips in the past 25 years and a couple of one day (all 4 parks commando style) trips thrown in when we had competitions or moving daughter in/out of Disney college program.
I keep hearing about a preview on the 17th..which park is that in? That will be our last day but our flight doesn’t leave until 9pm so need to decide best park to hit for lower crowds with it being a Saturday. How is the weather? My husband may have to rent a scooter (heel spur) and need recommendations on which one is easiest to deal with...any tips on using one? I’m a go-go-go walker- I’m worried this scooter thing will try my patience....I know that sounds so petty- but I’m down 85 pounds with 15 more to go and the power walking is my ‘thing’...I need to just appreciate the opportunity to slow down and take in the sites.
I think Stirmalong Bay with the sandy bottom will be awesome for stretching his plantar fasciitis- so looking forward to that!!
I love catching sunsets/sunrise shots- I will do my best to get quality shots to bring back for the page. If there are any particular shots you need that weren’t listed- just let me know! And I’ll report back on the painting offerings...and gym floor remodel..I’ll get shots of those.
Sorry, just sooo excited!! We are using this as a redo for a cruise that ended on day one last December due to a medical emergency...we are ready to celebrate making it through this year together!! 😁😀😃😎😎

The new Star Wars land at Disney's Hollywood Studios has previews coming up for people with activated Annual Passes. I believe there is one on August 17. (Note that all slots booked up the day they became available to reserve.) I think they are currently doing previews for cast members.

Also note that next week is... and please don't flame me, I am only saying this because OP asked about park crowds... Next week is Gay Days. Animal Kingdom on the 15th, Disney's Hollywood Studios on the 16th, and Magic Kingdom on the 17th, based on what I saw online somewhere. I did not try to confirm this in multiple places. I have heard that this might add to crowds. I do not know if that is true.

I just thought it might be better to avoid that park since many will go there, but then maybe that will mean they will all be visiting Star Wars land so the other rides might be light on traffic? Hmmmm...strategy??

Well, I don't know how your group feels about morning Extra Magic Hours. Some people think lots of people staying at Disney hotels will go to the park with EMH so they should avoid it if they will be arriving later. Morning people might want to take advantage of it. If you're packing up your stuff to leave with Bell Services that day you might not get a super early start even if you are morning people. Schedule for the 17th:
MK 9:00 am to 10:00 pm (Gay Days)
EP 9:00 am to 9:00 pm
DHS 9:00 am to 9:00 pm
AK 9:00 am to 9:30 pm (EMH 8:00 am to 9:00 am)

The thing to keep in mind now, although not for the day you asked about, is that the parks don't just have the free Extra Magic Hours. Now they also have a paid Early Morning Magic, which means that Rope Drop People who didn't pay for EMM will not be the earliest ones in the park. No EMM on the day you asked about, but it is on the 12th, 13th and 14th so make sure you check the Disney calendar and include "events" when planning for your week.

My guess is that Epcot would be the best best for you on the 17th.

We are supposed to go Thursday! But... I blew out my knee and sitting here trying to figure out how to salvage and enjoy the pool and Epcot while on crutches.
I know I would lose my flight and one's nights deposit at this point.

A couple years ago my husband broke his foot at WDW and we rented him one of those knee scooter things from an offsite vendor, and then rented an ECV when we arrived at the parks. The plus side of doing it this way is that we were not storing a large ECV in the room or charging it there, and we didn't have to deal with it with buses or boats. The downside to doing it this way is that we didn't have it at the resort, he didn't really need it at the resort but the knee scooter was really difficult on carpet or uneven surfaces so it would have been a lot less energy for him to have one there, it was also more expensive than renting from offsite and much bulkier, they make some really nice lighter weight more maneuverable ones that you can rent from the offsite vendors, verses the large armchairs with wheels that Disney rents out. Check out the disabilities forum for a list of vendors that will drop off and pick up at your resort's bell services. Personally, I wish we had just rented the ECV from the offsite vendor and used that the whole time, but my husband had pretty much no mobility without some sort of device since the break was so new, so your situation is likely different than that.

Not sure how quickly your husband is walking right now, but my husband was much faster on the ECV than hopping on one foot or using the knee scooter, so even though I am a very fast walker it didn't bother me keeping pace with him on the ECV.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

So very helpful..I don’t think hubby needs it at hotel, but the smaller the better- I think he mainly needs it to get to farther areas in parks- then can manage around the various rides- then trek over to the other side- do people use people movers in the parks at all?

We used Prime Now in June and they left it with bell services. We just called and had them bring it up for us.

Did they charge you per box to hold it? I know when we got boxes delivered ahead of time we got charged but I thought I read that if they get dropped at bell services you can pick them up that day without a fee.

Edit - NM, I see someone else asked the same question a page or 2 ago and got a response. sorry! :)

We weren’t charged anything. Our order wasn’t delivered before we arrived though. Amazon Prime Now gives you a 2 hour delivery window and they show up then.

We were going to meet them at the curb, but we were in the parks and figured it was worth the $6 delivery fee to let bell services take the order. We received the message from Amazon that our order was delivered and when we got back to the room we called bell services and they brought it up.

I guess they never recorded that they delivered it so we were never charged :confused3

My understanding was you had a $5 charge for packages mailed ahead of time (it used to be only ones through UPS or FedEx, and not through the USPS, but I think that might have changed and they all have a charge now. It has something to do with where they went with each service, and who handled them), and a $6 charge for any package that bell services delivered to your room. So if you did something like prime now or garden grocer, and went to bell services to pick it up yourself, you weren't charged anything. You would just be charged if you called down and had them deliver it. I don't think the $5 and $6 ever combine - like $5 if you mailed a box of supplies ahead of time and then an additional $6 when they deliver it to your room, but I guess I don't know that for sure.

Do the resorts have wheel chairs for rent/use?

The resorts, no. Just the parks. The resorts used to have wheel chairs for use, but now they are not out, and only for use in emergencies, they were also well known to be in really rough shape. Offsite vendors can also drop off and pick up wheel chairs so you have them for use at the resort and parks.

There really aren't very many people movers in the parks (unless I am misunderstanding what you mean) there are the Main Street vehicles that take you down Main Street and the World Showcase Boats (I am sure these have a different name that I don't know) that take you across World Showcase Lagoon. I have never taken either of these as in the grand scheme of things they don't really accomplish much in the way of saving you from walking, plus you miss things by not walking by, but I am sure others like them. Those are all I can think of, the Railroad is useful in MK but I believe it is down due to Tron construction. Maybe others know of more than this, I like walking so these aren't things I seek out.
