DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

It was pretty weird leaving home to work Christmas Eve, but I got home in the morning just when the family was getting up for presents. I stayed awake for that and managed to help cook breakfast. I lay down to sleep a few hours this afternoon and got up in time for supper at my parents, before coming back to work for the night. So despite being a bit tired, I didn’t really miss that much. I’m looking at the bright side.
So how was the first night shift?
And... sounds like you managed to fit quite a bit of Christmas into Christmas.
I told DD I would wake up early afternoon to watch a couple Christmas movies with her before going back to work in the night.
:) That sounds really nice. :)

First night shift was ok, just tired. Kept drinking tea for caffeine (I don’t do coffee). And it was weird being in my office building alone in the middle of the night.
I really didn’t miss a lot of my usual Christmas stuff. I really do consider myself fortunate given the industry I work in where people regularly leave home for weeks at a time.

Merry Christmas everyone. Have not been around much lately ,it's been a hectic couple of months at work. We are finally caught up and things well slow down due to winter. Have a great holidays gentlemen.

Good to see you back, even if it's just to pop in and say "Hey."

Evening chaps. Just dropped in to say Merry Christmas to you and yours, hope your day was drama free and booze filled. Cheers for all the birthday messages. Canadians, have a great Boxing Day as well.

Merry Christmas, Londontime.

I’ll be at work. Boxing Day will have to go on without me.

A question for you pkondz and Londontime: What's Boxing day? I've heard of it, but don't know anything about it.

Did not know this!

I thought I had mentioned this once. Maybe I did and you missed it. So...yep, classically trained, though I don't perform like that anymore.

Merry Christmas All.

Had a nice quiet day, morning at home, late afternoon at the in-laws and now home for A New Hope and some Makers Mark. Off to see Rise of Skywalker tomorrow.

I saw The Rise of Skywalker on Tuesday at a stand alone movie theater, love seeing movies there because I'm not dealing the mall traffic, and had the entire move theater to myself. Man I had such a great time. And it was a great movie.

Merry Christmas to one and all

it’s a pretty strange one for me since I started this new job and associated shift work last week. I was shadowing someone on day shift for a week and Monday I changed over to night shift to work solo.

Its St Stephen's day. I'm pretty sure as a Classically trained singer you might have heard the line "on the feast of stephen"
Its traditionally a public holiday in the commonwealth as it was the day us poor servants got the day off from the masters and returned home from domestic service. With a box of this and that. It was also the day the Churches broke open the poor boxes and distributed the proceeds to the locals. It generally has a tradition of eating the leftovers from Xmas dinner (cold meats, and the deliciousness that is Bubble and Squeak, which I've got to make at the in laws today).

Just watch your intake doesn’t interfere with your time to sleep in the morning.
And it was weird being in my office building alone in the middle of the night.
You’ll come to love that.

I see Dan’s already handled this. To expand... now it’s really just our version of Black Friday. People go shopping for sales. But with the advent of on line shopping, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are probably eclipsing it.

Ponzie how long have stores traded on Boxing Day? As I left front line retail it was only just beginning so that was about 12 years ago when opening Boxing Day was a thing. Is that the same for Canada or have they always been open?

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and for those of you who celebrate boxing day, hope you have a good one. We don't call it boxing day, but I'm going to go see if I can find some more lights for next year in the after Christmas sales.

This is the lasagna (4 different types) DW made (I was the soux chef) yesterday...

For as long as I can remember.
I don't remember if they did when I was a little kid, but... since at least... oh... the late 70s? Probably earlier.
But... it differs from Province to Province. I Googled and found that it's been from 1996 in Ontario.

Holy crap! Does she ship internationally?

I didn't realize that you were still in the office on the night shift, do you staff some type of control room 24/7?

I saw The Rise of Skywalker on Tuesday at a stand alone movie theater, love seeing movies there because I'm not dealing the mall traffic, and had the entire move theater to myself. Man I had such a great time. And it was a great movie.

We are seeing that in a few hours.

No shopping in New Brunswick, stores are still closed. Boxing Day here is a day to watch the first game of the World Junior Hockey Championship. Should be a good one today, Canada vs the US.

Well Christmas went really well this year! We did Christmas Eve at a family friends house after opening the Night Before Christmas boxes. That's a tradition I put together. This year everyone got matching PJs, a book, a treat, and fancy bead jewelry to wear for the celebrations. The Eve party was fun, I did end up getting some near crippling acid reflux from eating weird combinations of things but I survived it.

Christmas itself went great. The wife and kid beat me up and awoke me from my slumber, effectively cancelling my plan to wake up early with some coffee and a quiet breakfast before everyone else. We did Xmas with DS all together, then did it again with Grandma upstairs with her gifts. After that we trucked out to Pittsburgh to do an Xmas brunch with my wife's dad's people. After that, we briefly stopped at home to offload gifts, and then went out to my folks for Christmas dinner. That turned out really well, my brother was there and so was my sister with her BF and their kid. We had a hectic but great time. I"m looking forward to being back at work and the relaxing time off I have coming up! I have off Saturday through Wednesday, and am really looking forward to relaxing with the new Star Wars game, a few good books, and the leftover Christmas cookies

Hope everyone had a good Christmas. Sorry for not checking in here sooner to wish those here a Merry Christmas. It’s just easier over on that other place. Looking forward now to a few days of do nothing then some football on Saturday. Safe travels to any of you on the move during the holidays and prayers to those in need, congrats to those deserving and bacon and dole whips for everyone!

Happy Boxing Day? Or, happy day after Christmas. I'm home watching EPL. Dan's happy Chelsea lost the first game. Man United is clobbering Newcastle United at the end of the half. The next game is the highlight with Liverpool vs Leicester City.

I haven’t seen it yet. I may have to wait for a couple weeks until I have a week off. I’m looking forward to it.

I didn't do the shift work with kids. Now, as mine are older, it may be more manageable. You'll find that groove.

I still can't figure out bubble n squeak. I didn't know boxing day was connected with the Feast of St. Stephen. I learned something new today - thanks.

I still post here on my phone, which makes it almost as easy as FB. Pictures have an extra step though. Enjoy the time off. You looking at the weather forecast to take down the outdoor lights? Or, you just keep the same day each year.

That's not so fun.

Takes a beating and lives to tell the tale.

Whoa!
Can we celebrate boxing day too?
Sure. Just drive north a bit... and maybe buy a winter coat.

DW ordered me a Lands End winter coat one year. I think she ordered the southern Canada version, and I started sweating immediately as I put in on. She exchanged it for a KY winter coat, which is warm enough for here.

You know, out of context, my christmas doesn't look so great lol

In the context of the Disney Christmas parade - at WDW or DL and warm - all of our Christmases don't look so great.

Then again, if you've been in MK at park capacity, you'll wish you weren't there. Had that one time when Disney wasn't prepared, and it wasn't fun. It was an October in Fall Break, a Disney Cruise had just returned to port and brought people to WDW, MK had 3 MNSSHP that week. It hit capacity, extra park hours were added, and there was chatter over CMs radio to get people to work extra shifts.

How's your new job going? Hope it's going well.
It's OK. There was a steep learning curve, but I am getting the hang of it now. Just working night shifts is going to take some getting used to. But hey, I still have a job, which is better than the alternative.

I didn't realize that you were still in the office on the night shift, do you staff some type of control room 24/7?
Kind of. I am part of a team that monitors jobs (oil wells being drilled) in real-time. The guys I work with/opposite shift are in Houston. I remotely log in to their computers so I can see the displays. I do that in my office because we monitor 4 jobs at one time, so I need 4 screens. But here's the big secret - I can actually work from home, which is what I am doing right now. It called for snow overnight and I didn't want to get stuck in the office, so I tried logging into the Houston computers from home. It works! The only downside is that I only have 1 screen so I constantly have to flip around and minimize stuff. But considering I don't have to deal with driving in the snow and at the end of my shift I literally can crawl into my bed, that's a pretty good deal.

Stores are closed in Newfoundland too. Today (27th) is the big day for sales. DW works retail at the Hallmark store so she is off to work at 7:30 this morning since all their Christmas stuff is on sale. They usually have line ups at the door.
I'm not sure I will be able to catch the game today, but I may wake up early enough to see some of it.

I would offer to send you a monitor, but shipping would probably be more than the monitor itself.

I hope you're able to. Most things with computers can be done remotely, but most likely employers and too stupid or to controlling to allow it.
