I doesnt look like disney is ready to run it full speed and extended hours quite yet. If overheating really is an issue....they have few months to figure out before June heat begins in earnest

Hi, I have a few newbie questions!
I am visiting Disney World for the first time in a few weeks. We'll be a group of 4. We plan to visit DHS on 1/22, and we're going to try for RoR. I've read through almost this entire thread, which has been incredibly helpful!

1) - I am reading lots of reports of multiple people within a group trying to book a BG for everyone, and it really comes down to who gets into the app first. My question - is everyone using the same MDE account to do so? For example, I'm the main person on our account, and the other 3 people are linked to me. I've made all of the ADRs, FPs, and so on. Do I give the other adults in my group my user name and password, and we all try to book a BG at the same time?

2) - I've also read about people tapping in, and then leaving the park and walking towards the Boardwalk for example in hopes of getting a better signal/less of a data crush. We will have regular tickets, NOT Park Hopper. If someone in our group tries this, will that person have any difficulty reentering the park?

Thanks! We're new to all of this, so I really appreciate any help & responses.

I started reading this thread two weeks ago and checked on it every day until our visit yesterday. My last visit to Orlando was 35 years ago as a child, so a lot has changed. Now, with a wife and two kids, we visited Orlando with three other families to celebrate New Year's together. (To be fair, my family has done Disney Land twice in the past 12 years, and we did a Disney Cruise with said-families four years ago.) We did lots of non-Disney things, but decided January 2 to MK as a group; and myself and another family (from England) went to HS yesterday (the other two families did Epcot on December 30). While I had hotel and airfare booked 5-8 months prior, some family issues came up at around T-35 which potentially could've cancelled our vacation, so decided not to buy park tickets. Thankfully, things cleared up at around T-25, so I proceeded to buy 2-day/1-park-per-day tickets, but I got hosed on FP+. As luck would have it, I somehow was able to grab a reservation to Oga's Cantina at about T-5 by checking multiple times per day. At about T-2, I was able to switch our ToT FP from 9pm to 2pm as well as pick up Fantasmic at 9:30pm.

We got back from MK at about 10pm. Set the alarm for 5am.
Rolled out of bed, got the family up.
In the car by 5:50am.
Parked by 6:15am.
Through bag check by 6:20am.
Run into our English friends; get separated very quickly since the turnstile lines started moving.
Tap our cards around 6:35am. No fingerprints. Use app to verify that my family are all acknowledged as having tapped through.
Get absolutely lost and packed in the sea of humanity kind of near Hollywood & Vine; run into our English friends again
Started really monitoring the app around 6:58. I was the only in my family using the MDE app.
Family next to me was also counting down the seconds to 7am.
At about 6:59:45, I tap the home button on the app (Samsung Galaxy S10 on T-Mobile LTE).
As soon as I see my phone's clock change to 7:00, I click on Find Out More, then Join Boarding Group, add my family... BG 14
English friend's wife's phone's (iPhone X) app crashes; they get BG 159
Follow the mass of humanity to SWGE, start standing in line for MFSR

We wait in line as the first wave of BGs get called. I tell the family if we're not on MFSR ride by 9am, we need to ditch the line and go to RotR. Once the line finally compresses, we end up in front of the Millenium Falcon. I find a CM and ask if they think we can get on MFSR before 9:35am. She obviously did not hear about the technical issues going on, so she said not to risk it and leave the line. We get to RotR at about 8:15 when we're told that the ride is down and to come back later. CM also says that they will honor early boarding groups for "a reasonable amount of time after 9:35am", which did not give me a warm fuzzy. I told the CM that we left MFSR on the recommendation of another CM; she said to find a GET CM, which were difficult to find. So now we're in kind of a purgatory. Fortunately, the line comes back online shortly thereafter, and we get on RotR. Entrance to exit took about 30 minutes. Yes, it's amazing. The kids and I took two discreet selfies. At that point in time (not knowing the ride would break down so much the rest of the day and just how lucky we were), I felt that we probably could've done MFSR through the standby line and have been at RotR by 9:35am. We speak to a GET CM after the ride about getting the run-around between multiple CMs, and she gets us a MFSR FP, which we use immediately. (MFSR is also a fantastic ride.)

Obviously, it was not a good day for later BGs, and our friends did not get to go on it. They took the disappointment in stride, especially since they have a son with special needs who loves amusement park rides (they did have the special needs FP). They did let a CM know about the app crash issue they had and the disappointment of not being able to experience RotR, and they were given something nice as a parting gift. It wasn't their first trip to DW, nor will it be their last. We all left to go back to our respective homes today, so getting a one-day HS ticket and FP would've been a lost cause.

Anyways, I just wanted to thank everyone who contributed in this thread and gave me the ammo to figure out what to do. I believe it's sheer dumb luck that I was able to get such an early BG. I wouldn't mind Disney implementing a VQ system for hugely popular rides where perhaps 50 BGs are released at opening, another 50 two hours after opening, another 50 two hours later, and another 50 (as backup BGs) two hours after that.

Is there a way to check on MDX to make sure that you are recognized as being in the park before trying for a BG?
Maybe I'm being really dense...but how did you do this?
I’m also interested in @pseudoswede ’s response.

I remember in older versions of the MDE app that any guests that MDE recognized as having tapped in to a park that day and
were either:
1. Currently holding less than 3 FP.
2. Had used their first 3 FP and were now eligible for a 4th.

These guests’s names were moved to the top of the list on the FP page in MDE. They would also have a brief message next to their names informing the app user that these in-park profiles were now eligible to book another FP. My memory is fuzzy on this one, so I can’t remember the exact wording of the message in MDE. And I realize I’m doing a poor job of describing exactly what it looked like in MDE, but there was definitely a distinction made between the guests that were in the park and eligible for more FPs vs. any other profiles in your MDE that had not entered a park that day. And to be honest, I didn’t check to see if the latest version of the app still does this during my trip last month, so this might all be outdated info.

If the latest app version still does this, I suppose it would only be useful at park opening if a guest was holding less than 3 FP, so probably not ideal. Then again, with the current FP tiering structure in HS, holding only 2 FP to start your day might not be any big loss either.

1. Best to all use same MDE account
2. You don’t need a park hopper ticket to re-enter the same park, only to enter a different park

Got BG 70 but it doesn’t show any groups loading and estimated wait: backup group. Is attraction down (as of 7:29am)?

I’m almost at the point where I feel like not even bothering with ROTR next Sunday. I am trying to change some dining adrs and I can’t get in MDE. It’s saying wrong password. Tried to reset it, but not available. Is this what I’m going to experience next week? Disney IT doesn’t let me in MDE? (Haven’t changed my password at all)

Same here. Says password is wrong. My son texted me this morning asking who changed his password! He’s having the same issue.

I was trying to make a dining reservation for this coming week. Perfect time finally came up. And MDE won't let me. Says password is wrong. Tried to reset and get an oops screen. So I suspect a system wide MDE problem.

Side note: On Jan 1, rope drop was on Hollywood Blvd. Today was Echo Lake somewhere. Based on MFSR line, feels like similar crowd.
