Not All Good News for FP (Fixed.....for now???)

The app times out and gives me an error after I pick a park. I switched to the mobile site and I’m not getting the secondary search now. I’ll check it again later. I’ve never had an issue with the app before, so I’m not sure what’s going on on my end.

Change your title again, @JETSDAD, secondary search is back again this morning.
Is this something that just varies by guest or something? What I'm observing is different people seem to get different results, even searching at the same exact time for the same exact things.
I just booked FP on 3 days, today being #1, as a test. Not once did I have to get a secondary search, with the screens shown earlier. I confirmed each FP selected. As long as I didn't delay clicking confirm.
These were all Tier 1 type FP

I can't fathom they are turning on and off this feature on a constant cycle.
Can it not be that those FP were just truly gone, as in someone else clicked the same FP as you did?
And that would indeed trigger a secondary search, vs. it just doing it every time as they click the feature on and off again?

When it is not running, if you are offered a FP, unless you wait for over 5 minutes to grab it (some random length of time but anything under 5 minutes is a lock), you get that FP. It also doesn't show that screen if you wait longer, it shows an error instead. Not all options are shown to everyone at the same time. We've played around with timing to see how long it holds and have also played with getting FP's options to bounce between different devices showing that different options are offered rather than everyone seeing the same thing. When the secondary search is on it appears that it is more of a dynamic system. Everyone sees the same thing and first to grab it wins. You could be offered a FP and lose it within a second of it showing up.

Are you inside a window? How are you able to book FP to test this out?

Most of us testing have AP's.

It's interesting it seems to be in the morning when it's coming and going. Once it gets "fixed" it seems to be fixed later in the day. I wonder if the Rise BG situation is somehow involved. I have no idea how, but their servers would be hit early in the morning, and less after that. Or, maybe they make other changes on their servers in the mornings.

Ok, so just to show how it would go normally as opposed to what @PrincessWithABlaster showed above.

7DMT, same day, does not sit around long. Here is how it looks if you wait too long. I was modifying a 7DMT, saw the times offered, and let them sit. Once I clicked on the time it went to the confirmation screen but when I tried to confirm I got the error message.

Here I waited 3-4 minutes and was still able to confirm the FP.

Because of the strange back and forth between it getting turned on and off, I would guess that it’s probably some setting in the code that they have to turn on or off. I can almost here one software engineer saying to another, “You remembered to turn on the hold function before compiling this morning, right?” Followed by something unprintable.

But that’s obviously total speculation on my part.

It is a complicated process to not have a secondary search and also not have extreme overbooking of fastpass time slots if too many guests selected a fastpass time in quick succession.

Then consider the additional problem of how to ever give a party of, say, eight, a chance to do a same day fastpass selection when the throwbacks and no-shows are snapped up by smaller groups before eight or so of them for that time slot come available simultaneously.

There could be different strategies being tested every so often, maybe a new strategy or a bug fix every couple of days, and if problems occurred they turn the secondary search back on until the next strategy is ready to try.

I consider it obnoxious to be denied after just a few seconds to make a selection.

Right at 7am EST the secondary searches were back, but only stayed for less than about 15 min (was too busy to pinpoint when it changed), and I have no way to know when they started.

Interesting. I wonder if the previous suggestion was correct and it has to do with managing the bandwidth during the surge for BGs. Were you looking for 30 days or today? 7:00 is a really bad time to have to go to that if it affects 30 and 60 day booking too.
