Anyone concerned about the Coronavirus in WDW ?

From the outside it all seems pointless.

Japan closed all schools but is allowing daycares to remain open. The kids are still going to be together in large groups.

Interesting. I'm certainly no epidemiologist, even as an internet hobby, but I'm not understanding what this will achieve. I certainly understand closures with something like noravirus where if you can keep people away from each and go in somewhere and clean, you can control it.

The kids are home from school and no one is at Tokyo Disney but assume they are all still out shopping, riding public transportation, and being around each other.

I have read that Japan is trying to regain some credibility after the mishandling of the cruise ship situation. Plus the Olympics are there this summer. They have also closed schools.

I think they are trying to do a reset to avoid cancelling the games, which would be devastating for their economy.

They're also playing their preseason baseball games in empty stadiums. It seems like they are trying to limit the close congregation of people in areas where it's not necessary.

What are their expert qualifications? I am guessing the CDC even under the current leadership still has the latest best information, as long as they are allowed to disseminate it. Meaning all of the foremost experts in virology are in daily or twice daily contact with officials there.

The guy doing the updates is a pulmonologist. He’s reporting the papers and science as he’s receiving it. He’s less sensational than CNN or Fox. I’ve posted a few of his updates to this thread. He’s definitely more qualified than a news anchor.

TBH, I kind of wish our April trip was next week. I am not worried about next week, but a little about how April will be.

its a fair point and one we discussed. We decided to leave our flights in place but cancel the room before it was non refundable. We then could rebook last minute if things don’t worsen by mid next week. Very fluid.

Good lord, I sure hope WDW wouldn't have such a massive overreaction. For all anyone knows, someone without any symptoms but is a carrier has already been there and gone.

I suspect they'll handle this situation similar to how they did with Zika. Instead of stations handing out bug spray, it will be hand sanitizer stations outside of every queue, washroom, restaurant etc...

This should be common place anyhow, with so many people, so many kids, etc.

Unfortunately, we just cancelled our trip for next week. For us it’s more about the risks of quarantines and interruptions than anything.
This is what my husband talked about this morning. We are booked for mid April and late June. I don’t think April will happen. Still to soon to say for June.

Yes. We were there last week. Last minute trip. I’m glad we took it because any future travel (and use of our APs) is in jeopardy right now. Our April trip is all but cancelled at this point.

April seems less risky than June. Why are you thinking about skipping April?

We’re leaving today for a week. And supposed to go back Easter vacation. I’m not cancelling it now, we’re offsite with a reservation that’s refundable until 3 days before.

but honestly if there are people walking around Fl spreading this unknowingly, the same is likely happening in my large northeast city. And it’s not like I’d cancel my trip this week and lock myself in my house.

It just seems like this is ramping up. Where will we be in a month? I have until 31 days out to cancel my dvc reservation and avoid holding points. Worry over quarantine.

That's what occurred to me right after I posted that comment. Like, WHY aren't there already stations in the entrance/exit of every queue? Every trip, our two "souvenirs" are a pair of ears, and a sanitizer key-chain thingie, which we re-fill halfway through, and use religiously throughout the trip.
