I got bored at work and decided to go back on to the boards for the first time in a year. Sure enough I saw your TR. I was thrilled! I always loved reading your TRs in the past. Hello there!! I dropped off the grid for a while too! It's so nice to come back and see familiar faces (/usernames) Yessss I LOVE the Tapestry of Nations soundtrack! They always played it after IllumiNations all around World Showcase, but now that they got a new fireworks show they've stopped playing it, I'm really sad about that I have it on my phone so I still listen to it all the time too!

Day 3
Wednesday 6th February 2019
Part 1 – Animal Kingdom


Good morning!
After being so exhausted last night I thought I was going to sleep until like 10am today, but I woke up at 6:45am!
I looked at my phone and saw that Fran had messaged in one of our other group chats with some girl friends, so I messaged her…
(Messages timestamped with UK time.)

Going to the gym at 5:30am!
What a lunatic!
But you've got to admire her dedication

I showered and quietly got ready, then I made a coffee in the room and wrote some trip notes from yesterday.

At around 8:30am Fran and I went down to the Marketplace to get coffee in our refillable mugs, and we also got a yoghurt parfait each for breakfast.
Holy moly these were delicious, and a really good use of a snack credit.

Yum!
After a slow morning we arrived at Animal Kingdom at 10:30am!

Fran and I wanted to be Wilderness Explorers today!
We sheepishly approached the guy at the kiosk and he was super enthusiastic.
He made us say,
“THE WILDERNESS MUST BE EXPLORED”
And he did a really loud CUCKAWWW noise.

We walked over to the flamingo area, listened to the talk, and got our flamingo stickers!
…and that was the last time we ever interacted with the Wilderness Explorers programme
Oh well, it was short lived, but it was fun while it lasted.
Sorry but there’s too much fun to be had!

We saw these ducks that looked like they were mimicking the flamingos!
I don’t know though, maybe they do that anyway.
Either way, it looked funny!

Our first stop was the 11am showing of Festival of the Lion King!

What a fun show.
The Gift had a great voice.

Then we headed over to our 11:20am fastpass at Expedition Everest!

Fran was worried that we might plummet, but she ended up loving it!

WOOOO EVEREST.
This ride was a real hit with everyone, we all wanted to do it again later on!

Afterwards we were feeling peckish, so we went in search of some food.
On the way I spotted some cute new Up stuff.
There’s a new bird show with some nice art at the entrance, AND there are Dug and Russell statues!

Precious.

Soon we were successful in our search for food.
We found this tiny little hut in Asia called Mr. Kamal’s that had some light items!

We didn’t want anything too big because we had a big meal booked tonight, so this was perfect
Everything was a snack credit!
Jamie and I shared chicken dumplings, and loaded fries with tzatziki and sriracha ketchup:

Rob also got loaded fries and dumplings, and Fran got hummus, pita, carrots and celery.

We thought these were all really good uses of snack credits!
The photo of the loaded fries is making me hungry

And who knew this little hut was even there?!
The Disney website doesn’t even seem to know it’s there

After we’d eaten I asked Jamie to take a photo of Fran and I, and this was the result…

It’s a sweet photo, but WHY ARE YOU STOOD SO FAR AWAY?
I made him take some more
But that one still turned out the best, so I just cropped it

Much better

Then we joined the standby line for Everest!
We waited about 30 minutes for it.
We played Spyfall in line, which passed the time nicely.
We also saw our names on the interactive boards, and Fran looked totally shocked and was like,
“WHAT ARE THE CHANCES?”

We really cracked up at that

Rob and Fran sat in the front row this time, and we sat right behind them.

YAY so fun.

Day 3
Wednesday 6th February 2019
Part 2 – Animal Kingdom


At 1:45pm we used our fastpass at Kilimanjaro Safari!

A BABY ELEPHANT.

During the safari we saw the ostriches running after their food truck, and Fran leant over to me and went,
“Katie – IT’S US!”

After the safari we had a little boogie at a street party in Harambe, wooo.

Then we got iced vanilla lattes from the Starbucks at Creature Comforts!

After sitting in the safari truck for a while I had gotten a bit sleepy, so this brought me back to life again!

Next we headed to Pandora, as we had a fastpass for Flight of Passage!

Looking at Fran in the picture above shows just how huge these floating mountains are!

We killed a bit of time before our fastpass window by looking in the store.
Jamie found this weird thing which he called a “pandonion”

Soon it was time to ride Flight of Passage, and it was so amazing!
Everyone loved it, even though it plummets a bit

So magical.
It's one of my favourites!

After Flight of Passage we looked on MDE and found four fastpasses for Dinosaur RIGHT NOW.
So that’s where we went!

Hehehe.

It was fun!
I’m sure they made it less scary though.
There used to be hilarious photos on this ride, now everyone just looks mildly uncomfortable.
But it was still fun!

I liked these shirts in the store at the end…

When we exited the shop, Pluto was out meeting and greeting with no one in line!
Rob loves Pluto so he had to go meet him, it was essential.

Then we went to ride Everest one last time before leaving.
We joined the standby line, and we only waited about 20 minutes.
SO worth it.

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES

This time, Jamie and I sat in the front!
And Rob and Fran sat right behind us.
I love the front row of Everest, it’s so much more fun.

After a successful day at Animal Kingdom we headed out to the buses at 5pm.

Day 3
Wednesday 6th February 2019
Part 3 - Ale & Compass and Boardwalk


We arrived back at the Beach Club fairly quickly.
We ran back to our rooms, had a quick change and freshened up, then headed downstairs and over to the Yacht Club for dinner at Ale & Compass!

The girls ordered wines and the boys ordered beers

For our entrees I got the pappardelle pasta with chicken.
Jamie and Rob got the New York strip steaks, and Fran got the catch of the day, which was mahi mahi.

For dessert, Jamie had the trio of desserts:

I had the peanut butter and jelly:

Rob had the 12 layer chocolate cake:

And Fran had the apple cobbler.

This meal looked and tasted really good that night…
But our opinion of this restaurant may have changed by the next morning…
(If you read my intro post on this report you might know why )

After the meal we went into the Crew’s Cup Lounge, but it was jam-packed!
There were no seats at all!
So instead, we walked over to Abracadabar on the Boardwalk, but they wouldn’t serve us without our passports as ID!!
It was still cool to be in there though, we got diet cokes and chatted for a bit, then headed back to the Beach Club.

FIREWORKS.

Goodnight, and pray that we sleep well…

Day 4
Thursday 7th February 2019
Part 1 - A Not-So-Magical Morning


Not-so-good morning everyone
Jamie woke me up super early, at like 4 or 5am, asking if I had any anti-sickness and diahorrea tablets anywhere
Sadly I didn’t, which is rare for me when we’re travelling.
The one time I was a bit more lax with my medicine box…
Lesson learned.
The poor little lamb.
I got up and ready so that I could head straight down to the Marketplace as soon as it opened at 6am.
I got some Pepto Bismol, but it didn’t help very much.
He couldn’t even keep it down.
The poor boy was in a really bad way

I messaged Fran, initially asking about Rob, because he and Jamie both had the steak for dinner last night…

Nooooo!!!
This is awful news.
I felt so terrible for them.
Today was supposed to be a Universal day, and Fran had been so excited about Harry Potter

Ugh, this is the worst.
Both Jamie and Fran said they were sure it was food poisoning.
They’ve both had nasty food poisoning before and said it definitely felt like the same thing.
I also got sick once but was OK after that, and Rob was absolutely fine.
The only thing that we could attribute it to was the spinach in our meals last night??
Fran and Jamie ate all of theirs; which was a fair amount…
I had a smaller amount on my plate, which I ate about half of.
And Rob left all of his spinach…
Spinach just isn’t something I would’ve ever worried about?!
Like meats and fish and eggs maybe, but not spinach.
I Googled it though and it definitely looks like it happens.
I also asked my step-mum who does loads of cooking, and she said that things like spinach can be really dirty, and it needs to be washed really well before it’s served.

I went over to the Yacht Club to let them know, because if anyone else had reported it that night they definitely needed to look into it.
I told the man at the front desk, and I swear to God, literally all he said was,
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that.”
Really deadpan and monotone.
I tried to reiterate that we suspected it was from their restaurant, and how bad it was, and again he just said something like “sorry to hear that”.
There may have been a language barrier going on, but he didn’t even write it down, or go and tell someone more senior or anything.
That was just kind of… it.
I walked away feeling really annoyed, like he really couldn’t have cared less.
Honestly it really put me off the Yacht Club.
I thought that was awful service.
Oh well.
I just left after that.

I went back to the room and sat with Jamie for a bit, and he had started really shivering.
He had been really hot before and now he’d gone completely the other way.
I got him the spare blanket from our wardrobe but it didn’t help.

So I went down to our front desk at the Beach Club to request some more.
I chatted to the cast member there who was super nice, and at this point I just started venting, I don’t know why, I think I just wanted someone to take it seriously.
And he DID take it seriously, he was so so lovely about it.
He took all of our details and said they would speak to someone at Ale & Compass, and have someone call Jamie and Fran later on.
He also gave me LOADS of Powerade and saltine crackers for them, and he sent like 6 extra blankets up to our room for Jamie.
I was so thankful for him, he made me feel better.
It wasn’t about freebies or anything.
We were on the dining plan with refillable mugs so I could’ve easily got soda and crackers myself.
I was just so upset about it and he was really sympathetic, and he really tried to help as best he could.

Our extra blankets arrived at our room and I tucked Jamie up in bed.
Then I headed downstairs to get myself a yoghurt parfait and some coffee from the Marketplace.
I wanted to give Jamie some peace and quiet so that he could try to sleep through it a bit, so I sat outside on the swing chairs.

I was still messaging Fran through all of this.
Jamie was really really sick, and wasn’t going anywhere fast.
Fran had been really sick, but was feeling slightly better, so rather than wallowing in it, she wanted to try to rally and go out for a walk.
She’s such a trooper!
So at around 1:15pm Fran, Rob and I took the short walk from the Beach Club to Epcot!

We had a really nice gentle stroll.
It was nice and warm but not too hot, and I think the fresh air made Fran feel better for a while.
Rob got some poutine fries too, which he said were delicious!

We looked in the shop at the front of World Showcase, then we decided that a giant hug from Wreck It Ralph would make us feel better!
Please ignore how rough we look in these pictures, it had been a hell of a morning

Bless them, they were so adorable.
Ralph gives the best cuddles to sick little beans

Day 4
Thursday 7th February 2019
Part 2 - The Rest of a Restful Day

After meeting Ralph and Vanellope we went to explore The Seas.
Fran is really big on ocean clean up, so she really liked it in here.

We joined the “10 minute” line for the Nemo ride, which was obviously a walk-on, as always
We squeezed 3 of us into a clamshell and had a nice relaxing ridethrough.

After the ride we went to see the manatees, because Fran had never seen one before!

Then we went into the aquarium and tried to spot the sea turtle, but we couldn’t find it
A cast member told us that there were actually three of them in there, but they’re really good at hiding!

Then we decided to do something that I had never done before…
Turtle Talk With Crush!
It was really cute.
Crush asked if anyone had a question for him, and he picked a little girl who was sat up front.
He was like, “what’s your question?”
And the little girl just went,
“…………CUPCAKE”.


It turned into a running joke in our show with a lot of good callbacks, it was actually really funny

After the show we had a look around the shop at the exit, and found these GREAT tshirts.

Short backstory – you might have seen from our group chat that we sometimes call Jamie ‘The Gull’.
This originated from a time when the four of us were at our local cinema.
I was holding a mini brownie up near my face ready to eat, but I was distracted for a few seconds talking to Fran, and when I wasn’t looking Jamie SWOOPED IN and just wrapped his whole mouth around my brownie (and fingers) and snatched it from me

Fran was completely outraged by this behaviour, and crowned him “THE GULL”
And now that’s all she calls him.
I haven’t heard her call him Jamie in months, he’s just “Gull” or “The Gull”.
Sometimes Gulliver.

ANYWAY.
We absolutely had to buy those tshirts, they were so appropriate.
So that’s what we did.
As a get well soon present for Jamie.

Next we headed over to Living With The Land!

I love this ride, it’s so relaxing.
Rob and Fran enjoyed it too!

YAY.
After the ride we walked back towards World Showcase, stopping for some photopass pictures on the way.

Then we had a look at some Festival Booths (I love the Thomas Kinkade one!) and went into the Mexico pavilion.

When we were walking back through World Showcase Fran started to feel a bit ill again.
We picked up the pace heading back towards International Gateway, but she had to make a quick stop at the bathrooms in the Germany pavilion
So at 4pm we left the park.

When we got back to the Beach Club, Rob and Fran went back to their room, and I went to the Marketplace and got a turkey and swiss sandwich.

I was so pleased to hear that Jamie was feeling a little better.
He even had some of my sandwich.
I went back down to the Marketplace to get us something sweet, and I discovered that you can get these big tubs of ice cream with a snack credit!

Fran had fallen asleep at this point, so Jamie and I just got into bed and watched Role Models and Billy Madison on TV until we fell asleep.

It was not such a magical day, but I suppose we made the best of it!

Gosh! That's truly awful to have food poisoning so far from home. I've had it and it usually takes me days to recover. Glad the BC came through for you even if the Ale & Compass didn't. I realize they can't be sure it was their restaurant that caused the illness, but they could at least be sympathetic.

I realize they can't be sure it was their restaurant that caused the illness, but they could at least be sympathetic.

I knowww It was tough, they were definitely in recovery for a few days, but also didn't want to miss out on a big chunk of our trip! I think they did such a good job of rallying!

It's so far away

For some reason I don't think he quite understands that the picture on the little digital screen, it exactly how the picture is going to photo is going to turn out what a concept!!

I find the Pirates of the Caribbean photo everyone looks really uncomfortable and awkward in too.

That is cool, I started thinking more after I posted that and remembered the tattoos, however it is a cool photo, good idea, I might have to get one and put on and take a few photos while I am there, thanks for the great idea.

You definitely should! They're really cheap to get online, and several people made comments to us about them in the park! We were all dressed in black on purpose too, it was a fun idea

It must be terrible to be sick at Disney... I hope you guys got better quickly and you were able to enjoy the rest of your trip!
I never would have suspected the spinach either... good to know!

Thank you, yeah they still felt rough for a few days but they were definitely able to enjoy it as best they could!

We love the Beach Club! They were so great about it!

She loved them! They're a bit hard to see but their faces are so adorable!

Day 5
Friday 8th February 2019
Part 1 – Garden Grill and Hollywood Studios


After a rough day yesterday I was feeling a bit ropey and queazy this morning, so I decided to stay at the hotel to rest up a bit.
Jamie, Rob and Fran however, all rallied and made it to our breakfast reservation at Garden Grill!
They sent me photos to satisfy my FOMO, it looks like they had a real feast!

Jamie even passed on a message to Dale from me

It sounded like this was a really fun breakfast with a lot of good food!
Unfortunately by the time they got back to the room Jamie wasn’t feeling great again.
I think he over-ate
So he got back into bed to rest, and Rob, Fran and I got the boat to Hollywood Studios!

Hoooorraaay for Hollyyywoood!
We arrived at about 11:30am.

Rob wanted to go and ride Star Tours, but Fran wasn’t feeling up to it, so the two of us went to meet Olaf instead!

This was so funny, Fran was so excited to meet him, and when we left she just started crying hahaha
I think she was still a bit fragile from getting sick, and just super overwhelmed to meet one of her idols, Olaf

We met Rob at the exit of Star Tours, and he told us that,
“They showed a picture of me on the screen at the beginning!”
HE WAS THE REBEL SPY!
I couldn’t believe it.
After so many years of Jamie and I trying so hard, and he gets it on his first try
WHERE IS THE JUSTICE.

Fran had realised that meeting characters was making her super happy while she still felt a bit sick (Ralph and Vanelope yesterday, Mickey and co. at Garden Grill this morning, and Olaf just now), so when we saw Chip and Dale out meeting we just HAD to meet them
This was great for me too, since I’d missed out on meeting Dale at breakfast this morning

The line was fairly long but we were determined!
More soft hugs please.

YAAAY

It was now about 12:30pm, and it was time to use our Toy Story Mania fastpass.
However, Jamie really wanted to come and meet us so that he could ride it too!

So in the mean time we went to One Man’s Dream while we waited for him to arrive.

We watched the movie about Walt Disney at the end of the exhibit, and Fran cried again

Day 5
Friday 8th February 2019
Part 2 – Toy Story Land!


We went to meet Jamie, and the four of us went to see Toy Story Land for the very first time!!!
How fitting that we all shared this moment together

(Remember that our group chat is called Come In Star Command, where I’m nicknamed Woody, Fran is Buzz, Rob is Forky and Jamie is Little Bo Peep )

HEY HOWDY HEY!
It’s Toy Story Mania time!

I really thought I was going to be able to take advantage of Jamie’s weak and fragile state, BUT ALAS.
He still beat me.

Rob got about 120,000 and Fran got 60,000
It was loads of fun!
Jamie and I love getting competitive on these kinds of attractions

We were loving Toy Story Land!
The entire place looks like it’s been put together by a kid, and that you’ve been shrunk down to the size of a toy.
It’s so cool!
I kept noticing the benches, they looked like they were made of popsicle sticks and toy train tracks
I didn’t get any pictures – but you can look them up if you want!

We watched Slinky Dog go by a few times, and we got excited because we had a fastpass for it later in the trip!

While we were walking around the Green Army Men came marching past us!
I let out a little excited noise, and one of them said to me,
“No screaming please ma’am, there’s plenty of army men to go around.”

Brilliant!

Then Jamie and Rob went to sit down for a bit, while Fran and I got in line to meet her ultimate idol…
BUZZ LIGHTYEAR!
The atmosphere was getting us super pumped.
It’s me!

Soon it was our turn to meet Buzz!
Fran was so excited to show him her backpack!

I have no idea what’s going on in this photo below, but it looks like he was trying really hard to tell us something

We love you Buzz!!!

We went back to meet the boys and Jamie had caught the sun a little bit.
It was really hot today and I think that had made him feel a bit queazy again.
So sadly he decided to go back home.
Aww I was so proud that he’d made the effort for Toy Story Mania though
Bless him.
We waved goodbye to our Bo Peep.

Rob, Fran and I went to use our fastpasses for Rock n Roller Coaster…
However, I took the chicken exit!
Imagine!
I don’t think I’ve EVER taken a chicken exit.
I was feeling completely fine, but I just didn’t want to risk it.

Fran went on even though she knew it was probably a bad idea.
Sure enough, she came off the ride feeling really nauseas again
Poor love.

We sat on a bench on Sunset Boulevard for a little while, then we just decided to head home.

We got back to the Beach Club at around 3pm and Rob and Fran went back to their room so that Fran could lie down for a bit.

Jamie seemed a lot perkier now that he was out of the sun, which was great!
We chilled out and watched John Tucker Must Die on TV

Then Rob and Fran came into our room and we all watched 13 going on 30, which was on TV next!
We all had such a giggle watching this, everyone was definitely on the mend!

Day 5
Friday 8th February 2019
Part 3 – Hoop-Dee-Doo!


At 7:30pm we headed out to a reservation that I was SO glad we were all feeling better for…
The HOOP-DEE-DOO MUSICAL REVIEW!

We got the bus to Magic Kingdom, then got the boat to Fort Wilderness.
Happily Ever After was on while we were on the boat, how magical!

These photos came out blurry, but I still think they’re cute

I love Fort Wilderness

We checked in at Hoop-Dee-Doo, and AGAIN, we were right at the front!!
The two other times we’ve done this Jamie and I were front right, then front left, and now we were front centre!
I don’t know why this happens?!?
But I’m not complaining!

We started off with the usual salad and cornbread.
After everything that had happened I was a bit off the idea of salad/greens, so I just picked out some tomatoes

Hoop-dee-hoop-dee-hoop-dee-doo!!

We had some delicious hoop-dee-food.
It was all the usual items, fried chicken, ribs, corn, mash, beans etc.
Yum and wow, it’s tasty stuff.

Being front and centre, we got a load of interaction with the show!
At the part where Claire does the hokey pokey and kicks her leg up really high, Johnny shook his finger at Jamie, and when he turned away, Claire flashed him again
They’ve picked Jamie for that part before I’m sure!!

Six Bits also came up to our table and picked up Fran’s bag (which looks like an Aladdin VHS box – so cool!) and carried it around for a while )

Even though we didn’t get that drunk given the circumstances, everyone still had a great time

We left the show and were told we’d have to get the boat to the Wilderness Lodge instead of the Magic Kingdom and make our way home from there.
That was weird, but I looooved the Wilderness Lodge when we stayed there last year, so I was happy to go back and see it briefly.

We got an Uber back to the Beach Club and called it a day!
