When to cancel?

Hi

I have a ressie for April made with borrowed points. June use year. At this point, it seems unwise for me to go then.

I’m wondering what the best way is to cancel and request the points go back in 2020?

I don’t want to clog up phone because there are so many with ressies in March. But I suspect That cancelling online won’t unborrow points. My 30 day window starts Monday.

So should I wait or call?

I also have a reservation at the end of April and a June use year. Still on the fence about canceling. My airline ticket is still a go , so I'm waiting.

We also have reservation for mid April using a combo of banked, current and borrowed point. Dec UY I'm waiting day by day. If we cancel, hoping to switch up points for our July reservation and make a new reservation for Thanksgiving week.... if we can get one!

I called on Thursday night and cancelled ,using 2020 borrowed points with an Aug UY.Our resize was for 4/18 but saw no need to prolong the inevitable. They put them right back into 2020 without a question.

I will give them another couple days to get caught up. Good to know I won’t lose both years of points.

I don't want to clog up the phone line now to cancel my reservation (in June) because I realize many others have much closer check-in dates. When would be a good time for me to call? A week out from 31 days prior to check-in? I don't want to cut it too close as I don't have all day to wait on hold and potentially miss the cancellation deadline.

You can just cancel online. You don’t need to call. As long as you are 31 days or more out, you will avoid holding, regardless of whether or not they are still waiving that penalty.

With it that far away, you still have time to wait and see how things progress in terms of not only what is happening, but also with WDW and DVC.

i was 25 days out for my april trip. i finally got through today and rescheduled for middle of june. hopefully it happens. i just finished all my new ADR's. got em all no problem. got the cantina and droid depot also no problem.

i'm so bummed we r missing flower and garden but this june trip is 4 days longer now so that will be cool.

I know I can cancel online, but I have some borrowed points that I would like to be placed back in their original UY, which I assume will need MS intervention. As far as predicted outlook in June, while a land vacation may be possible by then, this is actually a pre-cruise stay and that my hope now is that DCL will eventually allow rebooking of my current sailing as I doubt the situation will improve enough to cruise worry-free at this point.

Here in UK we expect we will be put in lockdown eventually, and US is ahead of us on the ramp up curve. They are reporting over 70s here will be in mandatory 4 week lockdown shortly.

Whilst we have to travel internationally, I’m 50/50 we will be able to come July ( I have a 3 week coast to coast trip planned including LA, Grand Cali, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Fort Walton Beach and Wilderness Lodge- it’s cost me 12 grand plus points).

To be honest I don’t think any country will be entirely back to normal until we have the vaccine.

They may not continue to waive holding penalty and allowing borrowed points to be put back once the park opens back up.

Prior to that announcement, we were told normal rules applied, so, by May when you hit the 31 day mark, it may not be an option.

And now your decision will also depend on when the travel ban from the UK to the U.S. is lifted.

For those who may not have heard, the travel ban from many countries to the U.S. will include the UK & Ireland beginning Monday (3/16) at midnight Eastern.

Anyone concerned about their may trip? I have one planned for may 10th. Debating on moving it yet or not. The problem is I don't have enough points to book a backup delayed trip for June or July unless I cancel my may trip. Id rather not do that because the resorts I want are mostly booked up (and id miss flower and garden). Some resorts are still available for June and July (but it also costs more points). I wish they'd announce decisions for may right now. What to do??

I am praying we are back up by May. I just had to cancel March and don’t want to have to move a 2nd trip too.

Just canceled our April trip 😔...not a long wait time on the phone...took a few tries to get past the busy signal...but rebooked for October...CCV instead of Boardwalk, but we waitlisted so we'll see. Was truly worried because we used a lot of points for a three-bedroom grand villa and wanted everything moved into proper use year so I could jump on making a new reservation, and start resolving airline reservations as well...We're healthy, and so begins round two of restaurant reservations and FP+...

cancelled our April trip.. lost 45 points. the rest went back to 2020 UY. Looking at Sept 25th-Oct2. We have been Spring time goers for 25 years... last time we went in Sept was 2 weeks after 9/11. I dont even know what to think is a best time anymore. Hugs to all who have cancelled moved and been dealing with the uncertain chaos in our lives. My jobs both are not open, hubby works for USPS and we are just wondering what next. This April trip was to be our first since both boys went off to college.

If I were to call while the park is still closed, would MS put back borrowed points into original UY even though my reservation is in June? Or is it too far out for MS to grant the favor?

Not really sure about this. I’m just basing it on what I was told before they closed park. At some point they are gong to stop offering it. It might be worth a call.

I have a May trip booked as well so really hoping that one is a go.

Since your reservation is for June I don't know that they'd let you put the points where you want. I think you're going to have to wait and see what happens with closure. I can't imagine they'd still be closed come June.
