Zero Forky's Given - An August 2019 Dining Report - Completed 8/18

I'm still so jealous of that preview and getting to ride SR more than once...even though you aren't a huge fan...doing that without crowds....must have been so awesome. I agree regarding that popcorn....too bad...they could have done so much more with that!! That hummus/"meatball" thing sounds fantastic...definitely want to try that!!

It was definitely nice to experience the new land first and without the crowds. I am sure that will not be the case when we return again. Def not looking forward to an early am just to try and get on a ride.

I don't think I've heard of anyone that likes that dang popcorn so hopefully they will change it soon. They have so much more cooler they could do with the food then serve us crunchy kool aid flavor

Greatest Of All Time

After an exciting morning in Batuu we headed back to Caribbean Beach for some pool time.

We started off at the main pool where they conveniently have the Banana Cabana bar. I had the Mariner’s Mojito with Bacardi Gran Reserva Maestro de Ron Rum, Lime Juice, Mint and Pure Cane Sugar topped with Soda Water.

I love a good Mojito on hot day and this one hit the spot.

On the other hand, Jason apparently thinks a heavy beer is what one needs on a hot day so he went with the Goose Island IPA.

The pool was pretty crowded and since we’ve trained our child to be just like us, she requested we go to the quiet pool by the room instead. Didn’t have to ask us twice.

Sadly no pool bar there but I was able to take a short walk to the Spy Glass Grill and grab us a few more drinks.

That’s a Jai Lai for Jason and feeling very Karibbean a Red Stripe for me 🌴

As we enjoyed our beers and Casey swam we contemplated our evening plans. We had FP’s for Animal Kingdom and thought we’d have dinner at Nomad’s but after a week in Disney we all agreed we were just tired and a night in would do us all good. So I grabbed an ADR at Sebastian’s Bistro for later that evening instead. While I missed Nomad’s we would not be disappointed by this decision.

So more swimming and beers were had and eventually we cleaned ourselves up and took the long 5 minute stroll to dinner.

Apparently, after a day of swimming some of us were more tired than the others.

This was our first time at Sebastian’s and we were all excited to try someplace new. I’d seen several great reviews, including one from Caroline aka @disneyAndi14 , so I had some lofty expectations.

First off I thought the restaurant was beautiful.

Definitely minimalist but it had an understated Caribbean vibe (though aside from a few pictures nothing to do with the actual Sebastian).

Compared to other table service restaurants in resorts whose decor is I describe as “lobby adjacent chic” (Kona, Grand Floridian Café, Ale and Compass I’m looking at you) Sebastian’s was a welcome change.

Several beers in already Jason decided not to tempt a good thing though this time he was steppin high with an IPA while I went decidedly generic with some Pinot Grigio.

My notes say my wine was “cheap but fine” so kinda like me and forky :earboy2:

Casey got a mocktail called the Mutiny Punch which was a blend of Raspberry, Pineapple, Lime, and Cinnamon topped with Fever Tree Ginger Beer.

This was really, really good and I almost considered ordering it with some gin as my second round but I was lame and stuck with cheap but fine wine.

Not cheap and nowhere close to fine was our appetizer selection of Caribbean Pull-Apart Rolls with Guava Butter, Onion Jam, and Jamaican Jerk Oil.

Now $12 for four rolls does seem pretty exorbitant but these were sporking awesome. The rolls themselves were light, buttery and sweet and reminded me of those King’s Hawaiian rolls but yeasty in only the best of ways and like 1000% times better. The dipping sauces were also all off the charts. My favorite was the jerk which was a spicy Jamaican twist on traditional olive oil and balsamic. Jason and Casey’s liked the guava butter best. It was a little too sweet for me on top of the already sweet bread but these two loved the fruity twist. While no one’s fav we also enjoyed the onion marmalade which had a wonderful caramelized flavor. These were so good we ordered two more rolls to share. At $2.50 a pop they were a bit pricy but worth it. And in case my effusive praise isn’t enough, these bad boys are a close second to only Sanaa as the best bread on property.

Onward to entrees.

Jason ordered the Grilled Skirt Steak with Crispy Yuca, Baby Bell Peppers, and Chimichurri.

For a non-signature steak he was pretty dang impressed by this. The steak was a perfect medium rare and the chimichurri added a great flavor and wasn’t trying to mask cheap beef which he finds Disney does a lot. He also really liked the crispy yuca which he called the tater tots of the Caribbean. Not sure if the chef would see that as a compliment but that’s a win in Jason’s tater tot lovin’ mind.

Casey and I shared the Taste of the Caribbean which is served with Black Beans and Cilantro Rice. Then you choose any three of the following: Jerk Chicken, Slow-cooked Pork, Coconut Shrimp, Goat Curry, or Plant-based Curry.

On this plate we have jerk chicken on the left, rice in the middle, black beans on the right and hiding in the back that you can’t see is the slow-cooked pork. Now it’s likely hiding for reason as the pork while tender and flavorful was about 50% fat so this was our least favorite of the trio. On the other had we did enjoy the jerk chicken thigh which was very moist and had a great char on it. I was slightly disappointed the “jerk” was more sweet than heat but Casey loved it because it had “crispy chicken skin” which is one of her favorite things on the planet. The rice and beans were also both good with the beans, which had a great bacon flavor, being my favorite of the two.

But the piece de resistance. A slap ya mama moment. One of the best things I’ve ever had at Disney. Wait for it….Wait for it….Wait for it

GOAT CURRY!!!!!

Yep I'm a cute little goat eater. I see the disgust creeping up on many of your faces but don’t knock it until you tried it. This was ah-maz-ing!!!!

The picture does this zero justice but imagine a really good beef stew, but like REALLY, REALLY good. The goat itself was succulent and tender but as good as it was the curry the goat was simmered in was the star of the show. It was an aromatic blend of garlic and peppers and curry and ginger and probably 100 other spices I couldn’t quite detect. Jason captured it best when he said the curry sauce was so good he could have eaten a dirty sock in it. Now that’s good.

Wow, what a welcomed surprise Sebastian’s was. I’m guessing they are largely catering to resort guests, but more people definitely need to make a pilgrimage here. The rolls were divine, Jason loved his steak, but the star of the show was unquestionably the goat curry. When we go back again I’m ordering the trio with just goat because this was one of my favorite Disney dishes of all time. For a non-signature its right up there with Sanaa and Homecoming for us which is clearly saying a lot. I’m going to give this a full five forkys as it was probably the best non-signature meal we’ve ever had at Disney.

It is so nice to see Disney upping the quality of table service restaurants because not every good thing should have to be signature and more importantly signature prices. Also they do take tables in wonderland so we saved $23.40.

After dinner we did a little posing

And a little shopping

Before retiring early for the night. We had one last day in Disney and we were gonna make the most of it.

Up next we’ve got breakfast and DisMeets galore….

Wow!! One of your favorite Disney dishes of ALL TIME?!? This is high praise. Putting it on the future list for whenever we can go back.

I’m so glad you all enjoyed Sebastian’s! We had the vegetable curry and this was delicious 😋
I want those yummy rolls with the sauces, a must try next time!
I sure hope they stay consistent with the food, sometimes, a big fault of Disney’s!
The pool day sounded nice after a busy morning!

I love a good Mojito on hot day and this one hit the spot.

That looks refreshing. I love a nice pool day at Disney :cloud9:

Great pic! Just a perfect representation of relaxing at a Disney resort

They look yummy 😋

GOAT CURRY!!!!!

No. Just no. I saw what you did with the title and I was literally thinking, "I hope she's talking about Goat Cheese."

I see the disgust creeping up on many of your faces

I gotta say I was pretty shocked at how good Docking Bay 7 was. We don’t do a ton of counter service, but this one is right up there with Satuli Canteen in my book.
This is good to hear. We ate at Ronto Roasters and thought that was really good too.

This is a high price tag for rolls but if they are that good, then count me in!
Wow, what a welcomed surprise Sebastian’s was. I’m guessing they are largely catering to resort guests, but more people definitely need to make a pilgrimage here.
So, I actually booked this for our September trip. I've been excited to try it for a while now. It's good to hear you gave it 5 sporks!!!

Jason captured it best when he said the curry sauce was so good he could have eaten a dirty sock in it. Now that’s good.
Well, I know I quoted something else, but can't remember what it is, and sure don't see it here, so yep. Going with just the dirty sock dunked in curry sauce here!

You're right, based on the picture alone, I would never even want to try the goat curry, but your description definitely intrigues me and would encourage me to give it a whirl!

AND
to say it's one of the best dishes you've EVER eaten at Disney!!!! Is there even a higher praise for a restaurant that that?!

Wow! If the goat curry was so good you’d enjoy dirty sock curry I’m going to say Sebastian’s deserved those 5 forkys! The bread rolls do look and sound amazing
Casey’s posing photo is just beautiful! Definitely one to frame 💕

whose decor is I describe as “lobby adjacent chic”
:rotfl: But really...

My notes say my wine was “cheap but fine” so kinda like me and forky :earboy2:

My favorite was the jerk
Ahh, the jerk. My favorite is too often the jerk, too... which I suppose is why so many of my relationships fail... :scratchin

Wow! What a great experience at Sebastian's - I haven't heard much about it, but consider it on my list :thumbsup2

I've heard so many good things about Sebastian's. Those rolls! They're definitely going on my list of things to try. The goat curry, ehh, I don't know. You've described it so wonderfully, and it sounds deliciously amazing, but, goat.:laughing: It's kind of up there on my ick factor list with octopus. I know, I know, I don't know what I'm missing. Some day I'm going to be brave and try both, but it may have to be done like my grandfather did when he told me to close my eyes, and open my mouth, and he stuck a snail in there! Have to say I do I do love escargot!

Sebastian's is high on my list of restaurants to try, because I've read some great reviews. Seems like the experience did not disappoint for you guys, either. I mean, you had me at "cheap but fine" Pinot Grigio. :rotfl2: That's my go-to drink right there. ::yes:: Then throw in some delicious rolls and you're singing my song.
I'll have to keep the goat curry in mind, that's not something I've tried before.

Curry goat is one of my favorite foods on the planet. No joke. I’ll definitely have to make it to Sebastian’s on our next trip. That mojito sounded a little more extra than the typical pool bar as well. CBR has become such a great option after the renovations. Enjoyed your review!

First off I thought the restaurant was beautiful.
I agree, I was very impressed when I saw the inside.
Not cheap and nowhere close to fine was our appetizer selection of Caribbean Pull-Apart Rolls with Guava Butter, Onion Jam, and Jamaican Jerk Oil.
These sound and look so good! Any type of roll with things to dip in are 👍👍👍with me
GOAT CURRY!!!!!
Um, 🤮 and I know you knew that was coming!

Up next we have the Felucian Kefta and Hummus Garden Spread which are Plant-based Meatballs, Herb Hummus, Tomato-Cucumber Relish, and a Pita.
That looks so good! I will definitely check out Docking Bay 7.
We decided to try a few items amongst the three of us. First up is the Smoked Kaadu Pork Ribs with a Blueberry Corn Muffin and Cabbage Slaw.
The muffin seems so out of place here but the ribs look divine!
We started off at the main pool where they conveniently have the Banana Cabana bar. I had the Mariner’s Mojito with Bacardi Gran Reserva Maestro de Ron Rum, Lime Juice, Mint and Pure Cane Sugar topped with Soda Water.
Mmmmm mojitos! They are on my cocktail list for this weekend. I decided to do a signature cocktail every weekend and am stocking my home bar accordingly. It's not like I'm spending money anywhere else these days.....
The pool was pretty crowded and since we’ve trained our child to be just like us, she requested we go to the quiet pool by the room instead. Didn’t have to ask us twice.
The vibe at the quiet pool is much nicer.
First off I thought the restaurant was beautiful.
It is :)

Sometimes cold and white is all you need.
Not cheap and nowhere close to fine was our appetizer selection of Caribbean Pull-Apart Rolls with Guava Butter, Onion Jam, and Jamaican Jerk Oil.
Those rolls look absolutely to die for! I think I'd just want those for a meal!

Bill would be all over that goat curry,

A ringing endorsement if I have ever heard one! Definitely putting Sebastian's on the list for whenever I make it back. We are tentatively scheduled for December 19-23 now but who knows. March is looking like a back up plan if December falls through.

Apparently, after a day of swimming some of us were more tired than the others.
After dinner we did a little posing

Were you happy at the CBR? If our cruise gets cancelled in November, we are thinking about a split stay at WDW, adding four nights at the Caribbean Beach Resort. We are staying four nights at a monorail resort first, so I was debating between CBR for four nights or Yacht Club for 3 nights. What would you recommend? We will have a multi-generational group so need to have something that allows us to get back to the resort for nap time mid day.
Thanks!

Wow, what a welcomed surprise Sebastian’s was.
You had me at guava butter. :) Eating goat doesn't bother me. Just leave the horses alone and I'm fine.

It is nice to stay at the resort and eat dinner at the resort restaurant during a trip. We did that when we stayed at POR in January. We ended up cancelling our dinner at Edison in Disney Springs and having dinner at Boatwrights. It was by far one of our best WDW dinners, ever. Our waiter was great and the food was good. It was nice just to stay at the resort and not go anywhere that night. :)
