Disney Resorts Reopening

Sounds good until that “upgrade” moves you from a bed to a sleeper sofa pull out in a studio. Not all upgrades are really upgrades.

This!! We're booked in a CL tower suite at Gran Destino. It's technically a moderate resort, but it's definitely not a moderate room. If they move us to a studio somewhere I consider that a big downgrade. I'm nervous. I'm not sure if we will have any say in where we get moved to :(

I've never stayed in a DVC and it's been years since I've been in a deluxe. What makes a studio a downgrade? DVC studios and standard hotel rooms look about the same to me?

I just meant for the specific room we have booked in the tower, I would consider a studio a downgrade. It's more on-par with a 1BR (in my opinion) in terms of space and amenities. And some of the studios are quite dated compared to Gran Destino. In general, though, I think studios are great rooms! Just wouldn't want one as an equal trade for our current room! :)

What are the odds (in your opinion) that Disney will cancel a guest at art of animation vs moving them to a DVC resort? I have a trip for the end of August and want to tell my kids, but I’m hesitant because I’m afraid Disney will cancel us if that resort doesn’t open.

The CL tower suite at Gran Destino is actually much nicer imho than any DVC 1 bedroom, unless you really really really want to cook during your vacation. I have stayed twice in that CL suite and in 1 and2 bedrooms at BWV, OKW, and AKV Kidani. No comparison.

Quite a few of the DVC studios only have 1 queen and a sleeper sofa instead of a second bed. There are studios that sleep 5, but I believe all of those are a single bed drop down. It’s not a downgrade, but it’s sure not an upgrade to me. If I was at a deluxe, or even some moderates, I’d definitely consider it a downgrade. The fact that they have wonderful villas doesn’t help if you aren’t in one of them.

And they generally do not have the fun theming that most values and moderates have. I love DVC, but only if I’m in a Villa.

We were SO excited to stay there :( I've not been in the room, but based on the pictures and videos we've watched, I agree with you. I'd say it's more on-par with the Riviera 1BR than anything else I've seen/stayed in. So maybe I'll hope for that :)

No one can guarantee anything right now. We kept our June/July trip a secret from my grandson after we were cancelled in March just to avoid him being disappointed again. Chances are they’d move you, but there’s also a chance they may be overbooked and not get enough self cancellations.

I think that’s a slim chance, but if it were me, I’d keep it quiet until you were sure. Depends on your kids, but ours took the first one so hard we weren’t risking it again. Turns out it was the right thing to do.

I'd definitely keep it a secret for now. We've had to cancel 3 trips so far (dd20 was in the DCP so we bought AP's to go down and see her a lot - of course, she was sent home rather quickly and we never got to go see her) and my other kids were really bummed. So, we rescheduled everything for July and told them all thinking it would be fine and now going back to Disney is all my 9yo will talk about. I don't have the heart to cancel the trip on him or the others but had we kept it quiet, I might be canceling. We are booked at ASMo so if Disney cancels us, I'll have to do some heartbreaking :(

So true! One spring break just a couple years ago, we were moved from All Star Sports to a Boardwalk studio. Someone at Disney prior to the trip had changed my King/Dbl roll in shower room for my 2 kids and me, so we actually real beds booked. I show up with my kid in his wheelchair, and they said we had a regular double room with no roll in shower. I spent hours at the front desk, showing them the confirmation, until they “upgraded” us to a studio with one real bed, one trundle and one sofa sleeper in one room, and it had no storage whatsoever to unpack. I was furious, as the confirmation was a totally better setup, but everything else on site was totally booked. Boardwalk tried to find us something better next day and day after, but nothing was available. It was the worst room I’ve stayed in at Disney. We even had to call for a shower seat, as the roll in shower lacked a seat (It had been ripped out).

Uh oh... my 1 July YC room only reservation has disappeared from MDE! Split stay 12 July reservation is still there. Anyone else?

I just checked the desktop and the App. My July 1-5 Movies reservation is still showing as of one minute ago. I would have reserved July 15-19 but I reserved when I heard Universal was opening to the public June 5 because my daughter's AP had one month left on it when Disney closed so if Disney had jumped on and opened in early/mid July I had to have a reservation that would accommodate my daughter's AP. Once I found out they were doing the July 11 thing I couldn't get on the reservation system anymore and the phone CM said I couldn't adjust the July 1st date.

I'm holding on to a little hope that once Disney gets the numbers worked out they will let us move our dates if there is availability before new bookings are allowed since we did have a reservation and tickets already.

Our March trip got cut short by the sudden closure. We only had one day in the parks (PH).

The pull out beds are not as comfy as a queen bed.

I haven’t received any correspondence from WDW but my US TA has reconfirmed that the YC reservation from 1 to 11 July has been cancelled by WDW. YC CL reservation from 12 to 19 July is still active. I hope that you have better luck.

Have a chance to rent dvc for July 14-17. We both already have paid tickets. If we did this do you think we would be considered on site guests for the reservation system.

DVC members are currently still able to reserve. As long as you're working with a reputable source, you shouldn't have a problem.

I often look for 2 rooms that are connected for space. We often do 1 or 2 bedroom villas. However I have also done the hospitality suite at Cr, deluxe suite at WL,

There are also 1 bedroom suites at deluxe but usually cost a lot more with little to no discount vs 2 rooms so I don’t do those but all of those options would be good,

After 2 stays at CSR in a deluxe suite I tried the 1 bedroom at RR. The room at RR was far nicer . It did not include CL however you could mobile order from your room and run and grab when get ready text which was super easy.

I’d make a list of what you’d like. Then if they give other call and try to move. You paid for 2 rooms and 1 1/2 bath so be firm that you need the space.

Good luck!
