Yes, they are super fanatics. Brook Lopez built a home at Golden Oak five years ago, where he lives by himself. He and his twin are very funny together-always jabbing, but very much alike. They’re huge Disney fans. Pretty sure they just had a house built at Golden Oak even.
I would hope that the NBA teams would not be using SAB because of a potential problem with fans hanging around the perimeter of the pool area. The teams would have complete privacy at the YC quiet pool. The convention center is very convenient for them, too.
I highly doubt they will be using SAB. There is a pool on the YC side of the resort that is out of view. Too many people in the vicinity just staring...
I also think the NBA is out of YC by Labor Day weekend. By then it's down to 8 teams. If not all are at GDT by then, maybe a few leftovers at GF. I think the resorts and SAB open around that timeframe. Pure speculation of course.
The good news is that the “worst” NBA teams coming to Orlando will be staying at the YC. So, as they are eliminated, maybe they will vacate the YC. However, if they play well and make it to playoff rounds, perhaps all remaining teams will move over to the GDT, to be close to NBA HQ. So, either way, there is a good chance that the YC will be cleared out sooner than the other two resorts, with GDT to be blocked till at least the finals are over.
I am sure that Disney will be anxious to get resorts back up and running for guests paying the higher room rates.
This will not be easy for Disney - the demands of the NBA and players will be great. They will even be swapping out some of the mattresses to larger size - probably CA King, which is longer. Disney is saying that only so many of those will be available. My understanding is that NBA hotels used by teams on the road must provide CA KING mattresses for them...maybe they will keep some of them in the guest rooms.
I am trying very very hard to stay positive for my dates but I can't see how some of the things we booked YC specifically for (SAB, park hopping, Ale & Compass for breakfast) could come back in time based on this news. I don't want to cancel but I hope we have the option to maybe switch to a more affordable resort because this amount of $ per night just for a comfy bed without the other perks of the property is not justifiable.
NBA is not starting until July 31......This is really crazy. All these folks who have been saying all along oh poor Disney having to sort through COVID, and that is not the case. They are just bumping people who have plane tickets and vacations planned for ages to get more money. My trip has been rescheduled three times. I check in July 20th, who knows if there will even be somewhere to move me when the time arrives. This is really awful. BTW was at Yacht CLUB , guess no longer. Just called the reservation center and they still won't even acknowledge that the hotel is off limits. They say they have no idea!!!
Actually, the teams will report to Orlando on July 7, 8, and 9. The families and guests of remaining teams can arrive on August 30.NBA is not starting until July 31......
yep - and book a ton of top tier rooms.Actually, the teams will report to Orlando on July 7, 8, and 9. The families and guests of remaining teams can arrive on August 30.
Dang it, was really hoping we would miss them! I guess I need to just pray they will be confined to YC pool. Although I believe the tennis courts are over there and my daughter and I were going to play a few matchesresearching on various sports sites, the teams arrive July 7. practice and getting their teams back together
yep - and book a ton of top tier rooms.
Add me to the list of people who are beyond peeved. Saw the NBA YC Takeover just before bed last night, and honestly had trouble sleeping.
Had YC booked for April and May, which both got cancelled. Had our flights cancelled on us yesterday for the July YC rebook, and was going to cancel that anyway, but we still have YC trips booked for August and September. And a move to OKW or SSR doesn’t compare to being able to walk to two parks, even without SAB in the equation, and we are not fans of resorts that are so spread out you have to take a bus from your room to get a coffee. And that creepy clown over at BW gives me nightmares. Riviera looks too much like a Holiday Inn or Hyatt to make us happy, so what’s left? WL, Poly, BLT? BC or BCV, would be better, but without knowing how much stuff will be blocked off for the NBA it’s a tough call.
Has anyone called or been called about a move yet? I’m tempted to leave the July trip (July 9-12) booked for now, just to see if we can generate a call with some info sooner rather than later.
If SAB is closed for us, but open for NBA I will really be %@$# off! and will refuse to watch another NBA game againB&C will be open. So, the view of Stormalong Bay should be fairly good to get a glimpse of players; that could be fairly interesting entertainment, though I can picture CMs telling guests to “keep moving.”
I can tell you I got offered the Riviera for our YC CL stay with no refund for the CL portion. We declined.I'm with focusondisney, wait and see what Disney offers for our CL stay. WL, Poly, GF would be the only alternative options for us.
