Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS Information & Questions

Add me to the list of people who are beyond peeved. Saw the NBA YC Takeover just before bed last night, and honestly had trouble sleeping.

Had YC booked for April and May, which both got cancelled. Had our flights cancelled on us yesterday for the July YC rebook, and was going to cancel that anyway, but we still have YC trips booked for August and September. And a move to OKW or SSR doesn’t compare to being able to walk to two parks, even without SAB in the equation, and we are not fans of resorts that are so spread out you have to take a bus from your room to get a coffee. And that creepy clown over at BW gives me nightmares. Riviera looks too much like a Holiday Inn or Hyatt to make us happy, so what’s left? WL, Poly, BLT? BC or BCV, would be better, but without knowing how much stuff will be blocked off for the NBA it’s a tough call.

Has anyone called or been called about a move yet? I’m tempted to leave the July trip (July 9-12) booked for now, just to see if we can generate a call with some info sooner rather than later.
I am end of July watching another day pass with zero communication from Disney.

I would hope that the NBA teams would not be using SAB because of a potential problem with fans hanging around the perimeter of the pool area. The teams would have complete privacy at the YC quiet pool. The convention center is very convenient for them, too.

The YC pool is probably smaller than pools that these players have at home if they have one. SAB offers some privacy but really it's going to be shared facilities for all of them - none of them are going to have real privacy except in their own rooms.

They can easily block off areas or put up scrims and I’m sure security will be extremely heavy. No one is going to get close enough to gawk. I just don’t see relegating them to a quiet pool.

So could all this backfire on Disney? If the sportsmen are not happy with the facilities, resorts etc could that bad publicity damage Disney’s reputation?

Doubtful that it will backfire. But it does impact guests that had or were planing stays during this time.

The 3 hotels all have direct access to a large convention venue to allow the teams large private spaces to prepare for games. These resorts are as good or have better options than what the teams utilize will traveling for away games. It would appear that's why these resorts were the ones selected by the Teams and the NBA.

Also thousands of additional Disney CMs will be able to return to work to support this unique situation. The games will also be broadcast which will allow advertisers to place / sell ads and put many more thousands of people back to work around the country.

I just don't know what to say!

How very frustrating for guests with upcoming trips to the resort reading about all this info, but not getting info from Disney.

It's crazy that we are less than a month away from the opening of the theme parks and there is so much up in the air.

:sad2:

2020 sucks.

You are not wrong!

I hate to block your suggestion, but it occurs to me that SAB may be the only pool on property that swimming areas that are deep enough to be over the players heads. Bet they don't find that in many places.

:fish:

That’s what I was thinking. I posted this in the “no Storm Along Bay” thread::

Aw come on. I am directly affected with a YC CL reservations for July 13 & Sept 12. But am I the only one who wants to see those NBA players walking around the 6+ deep areas that scare all 5 ft 2 of me ? I mean, just imagine it, the rest of us needing tubes to float around that lazy river, & they just walk around, no problem. :lmao:

Ok first of all let me say I know nothing! I’m totally clueless about what the playoffs, NBA and various teams entail my only knowledge of the game coming from watching “The Last Dance” on tv and I haven’t got to the end :rotfl: Bearing all that in mind , please don’t get angry with me but totally feel free to confirm how little I know:thumbsup2
Is there a chance that it won’t be as bad as everyone thinks because the players will actually all be concentrating on their game and so either training or competing most of the day so leaving the pools and amenities free for non players to use? Possibly the gym being impacted more than the pool? Also, given that you have to leave the SAB complex to cross the footpath to the pirate slide would that not be a less likely pool for them to use if they wanted privacy? Those guys are definitely going to want a go on the slide if they can. I imagine fans would hang out there hoping for a glimpse of a favourite player causing safety issues and congestion given all the guests from the various resorts on the boardwalk use that path to get to International Gateway. I think it’s the uncertainty that is making this situation so anxious for so many people and totally with you all that more communication would ease that but I also know that we are a very well- informed group of disers and that sometimes that means that see problems that may not even arise as we are just don’t know what solutions are in place behind the scenes. That said if it was me and I was anxious I’d be dropping an email to the general manager asking for clarification on how the NBA staying at the resort will affect the amenities available during my stay. I will say we have stayed at YC when the beach has been closed to us for a private function (for a couple of nights) but that it was incredibly well managed and everyone was very friendly. They even handed out some treats to my kids as we walked by. Hoping that it all works out well for everyone involved and that maybe having some players there adds to your experience rather than detracts from it. Fingers crossed for you all 🤞

This is always my favourite thread on DIS! I never would have thought we would be talking about the NBA staying with us At YC/BC. This has been a very interesting thread. I really think that YC will have other guests at the same time as NBA. They have the space, but I think CL and suites will be taken over! I love Disney and I hope they make this right for guests.

Unfortunately, the NBA is going to be *very* strict on maintaining a bubble, not to mention maintaining player privacy. No, I believe there will be no other guests at YC.

I agree with this. The general public will not be allowed any where near the players. It is not just the players but also a large support staff. The players will not be able to go outside the bubble so any resort amenities will be for them only. They will also be able to book up to 17 rooms for family and friends later in the summer. They will fill the resort if they choose to do so. Disney has not even said if the resort will stay open once the NBA season ends.

I'm trying to mentally prepare to get walked to BCV - what size is the bed in a studio?

(Honestly if we can't stay at YC my preference would be to get moved to BWI which was our second choice but it doesn't seem like we will have enough info to proactively make that request by the time our payment is due).

For all BCV studios: 1 queen-size bed, 1 double-size sleeper sofa, and 1 single pull-down bed (29" x 67").

There will be 8 NBA teams there to start. They will certainly fill the hotel. All players have to get quarantined before they start. There will be no mixing of players & public. After the first round, each team left gets to book 17 rooms for players families. No one knows where those rooms will be. But the speculation is the NBA teams will consolidate as teams are eliminated and the last hotel is to be Gran Destino. So the hope is YC may be vacated by the end of August. Again, speculation.

We had Beach Club reservations checking in on Aug 26, i just pulled up the app and it now says Poly... has anyone else been changed for late Aug without notification?

Is it Poly, or Poly DVC studio? I have not read any reports of that...only a few who had a TA possibly cancel on them.
