Crazy things you've heard people say about Covid-19

It's used as an insulting/derogatory/racist term - often accompanied with a sneer or negative tone. It's a pandemic, aka worldwide disease, yet when has any official from any other country been quoted using one of these terms?

What is wrong with China Virus, Chinese Virus or Wuhan Flu though? It's the place of origin. I mean, it's not an insult.

My best friend watches CNN non-stop. She’s working from home still and has it on all day and is constantly texting me the latest gloom and doom. I feel for her. She lives alone in the Boston area, and I think has left her house once since March.
Bad. Tell her we have NECN* (24 hour New England Cable News), plus if you give me some time I can put together a list of all the local stations' news broadcasts. Less than 24/7, but still a lot. Maybe biased, but more balanced than either CNN or Fox.

*okay, not new news 24/7, they repeat the same half hour broadcast for hours; maybe that's a good thing here, if she hears the same information over and over, maybe it will lift her spirits. A little.

It is incredibly ignorant for people in power to call it anything other than its scientific name.

Okay, fair enough. I just don't remember hearing controversy about other location-based names in the past (Zika, West Nile, Spanish Flu, Ebola, etc. etc. ) so I wondered why this was so politicized. I see what you both are saying though.

Zika: named for a forest, not an entire country https://www.bustle.com/articles/138...ka-virus-its-name-references-its-origin-story
West Nile: named for one entire shore of a 4,000+ mile long river, not one country https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Nile_virus
Spanish flu: first reported by (neutral Spain's) news outlets, therefore misnamed - likely originated in France https://www.history.com/news/why-was-it-called-the-spanish-flu
Ebola: also named for a river, not a country.
None of these diseases is mentioned in the derogatory tone typically used by political figures for COVID19.

They know all that.

Just easier to make the unfounded argument and stick their fingers in their ears.....

I said "location based", not "named for an entire country". I also have already acknowledged your point. But you can keep preaching to yourself if you want to.

Yet, COVID-19 is being derogatorily referred to by the name of the country where it was apparently discovered. None of the other disease names were used with the equal seeming intent of insulting the location. Or country, even when said disease is misnamed.

Did you watch NECN last night, when they had the tornado warning coverage? It was very informative and well done, IMO. It was explained how the radar and other weather-related scans were used, what to look for, had communities called out for time to head to the basement, when it was safe to come out, and one of the best things - the newscaster told the people heading to the basement to turn up their TVs as loud as possible so they could hear him from the basement if need be. He'd let them know when it was safe to come back up. That's in case they had no other way to stay informed, of course. And he did just that - gave towns the all clear once the radar showed it was safe. Very professional, but very intimate as well. I was impressed.

Typical liberal nonsense.... Chinese coronavirus, Wuhan virus directly refers origin of the virus. The virus literally started in Wuhan, China! My personal favorite however is Kung Flu (very clever play on words!)

What does Kung stand for, do you know? Or do you think it is clever just because it makes fun of the Chinese language? Wouldn't that be racist?

I already stated my opinion. No need to step & repeat. What you should also understand is I'm not alone on this by a long shot & fortunately more companies like Trader Joe's are standing up as well.

Trader Joe’s will not be changing label names called racist. Petition had asked the grocer to retire names like ‘Trader Jose,’ ‘Trader Ming’ - “We want to be clear: we disagree that any of these labels are racist,” the popular grocery chain said in a statement posted on its website. It added, “We do not make decisions based on petitions.”

I see Birx is now joining the Fuaci club.....

What a year.

Let them have their demon sperm doctor.

I'll take the real experts any day.

I'm Asian. I love it when people tell me what I should be offended by.
That's okay. Others are willing to speak up on behalf of those who choose not to speak for themselves for whatever reason.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
