The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

So this is just a little FYI for what it's worth.
My wife just ran over to Disney Springs to pick something up for my daughter. Only one garage open (Orange). She said there was hardly a soul at the Springs. Went right into the World of Disney store, got what she needed and back out. The entire round trip including shopping only took less than an hour and 45. Even Thunder Road wasn't bad, at least on the way over. Car fire east bound had traffic backed up for miles on her way home though. (Opposite side of the highway).
Yes, I'm bored, Ha!

Demo day 2. Most of it is gone except the water closet. Condo filled with dust. Am sure it will be like that for the next few weeks. Not sure what is happening tomorrow, spent the afternoon on the amenities floor. Needed to lead a meeting and could not do that with the noise.

Denise, Glad Frank's surgery went well & hopefully not too much pain. Chris your bathroom will be beautiful when finished. Mallory is being a good girl ~ hey I'm here ~ see me. Praying for Bert's Mom & Frank.

Tell Frank he better get going on rehab, only a month till the dismeet. If we do a zoom meeting, we wanna see some sick dance moves LOL
If he didn't have PT we might actually be able to make it. He is off till Nov 30. And I am in somewhat the same boat as Ed as far as work.

Well I learned a new technology skill today. But here's the backstory:

My 8yo laptop had been shutting down suddenly at times in the last few weeks after being on it for a while. I mean like stone cold stop - no blue screen of death - just straight to black/off. It rebooted fine but I was like "whah"? :confused3

After doing a little research, I narrowed it down to the CPU overheating and shutting the unit down. The solution is to reapply new thermal paste. A few YouTube videos later and after a run to Best Buy, I was equipped to do the surgery. While I was at it, I got a can of compressed air and blew 8 years of dust out of the fan and vents that were partially blocked which was supposed to pull through air to cool the CPU.

But I did the separation surgery, blew out the dust, removed the old thermal paste and applied the new thermal paste (to help pass the heat generated by the CPU to the air cooling system pulled by the fan), and then reassembled. It was ready right away and working good as new. Time will tell if this solves the problem because I have to load up the CPU with DIS threads, YT videos, and music all at the same time.

The is the same old Lenovo laptop in which I have replaced the hard drive with a solid state drive and also did the operating system upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Can anyone tell me what is next on the ol' 'keep it going' list?

Bama Ed

PS - Frank and Denise, I hope Frank recovers well and his therapy is helpful. And Denise, we'll have to compare stories some time.......

So Friday morning was a 4 am wakeup, so much for sleeping in on the day off. By 440 am I was on the road and headed North of Scranton to have the 3000 mile service done on the Can Am Spyder. The morning run up I took the interstate as it was foggy and well, that early dark also. The ride home the weather was beautiful, humidity low, so I took the long and winding back roads home.
Today found DW and I back on the road, this time to visit with my parents. Once again, we hit the highway on the way up. After our visit it was time to take the long way back home. We took at detour at the State Park to go up to the office, the road leading up and down is an 18% grade. We then headed for home wandering the back roads, and eventually stopping for dinner, well if ice cream can be considered such. So after having my 3000 mile service completed yesterday, I end today with 3500 miles in 70 days of ownership.

Ed,

You have the big stuff done. Not sure how much RAM it has, but Win10 is a memory hog. It will swallow up everything you give it. It runs with 8gig, but runs much better with 16.

I've built many computers and we used Lenovos exclusively at work until this last year. They are pretty bullet proof. The screen will probably be the next thing. They are pretty cheap and easy to replace. After that, it is generally fatal things like onload power supplies or random capacitors. At that point, it is time to upgrade.

My Dell is also 8 y/o. I replaced screen two years ago. Battery gave up ghost 3 years ago. Still running Windows 8!

Poor thing...

we are constantly planning and changing plans. Plan was to drive to Ohio yesterday but decided we would drive next weekend on Sep 12 (decided this on Frida). That meant I was doing my virtual Boston Marathon Monday (today) here in Atlanta. I got break on the weather and got started at 6:15. It was definitely not the Boston I hoped for but I did it.

rumor is boston in April 2021 will be elites only so it might be a few more years before I get back there. Right now am just glad it’s done. Long runs after long drives suck.

Pic DW took this weekend at the US Nationals. Even though we were at the drag races, I still had to represent the mouse.
