How can I save my GCV points?

Disney canceled my GCV reservation for Oct 10-12 and returned those points to the original UY two days ago. The UY is Dec 2019 which will expire in 63 days. I tried to bank to the following year but it wasn’t successful because it was already beyond the banking dateline. May I know how can I save my GCV points?

If they were not already banked and Disney canceled on you, they should have made an exception and banked them. It is happening so double check.

If they were banked in, the latest I heard was they havent made a decision on December use year yet.

AFAIK, the only options for you would be to:
  • Transfer your points to another Member (This is a very limited opportunity since only October and December use years are sill in the 2019 use years and October will roll to 2020 in just a few days).
  • Deposit the points into RCI (Check the Members Website for more info on this option and note the deadline, which is 45 days before expiration).
  • Rent a reservation(s) to someone else that will end on or before 11/30/2020. There is still some availability in October and November at other DVC resorts.
  • Call MS again and beg for an exception to the banking deadline because Disney cancelled your reservation after the banking deadline. If that didn't work, send a politely-worded email to Member Satisfaction again asking for an exception.
Good luck!!

If it follows the same pattern, points beyond the banking window from a resort that was closed....which VGC is...we’re moved to the next UY but not until after they expired.

So, your points should be eligible for that. I would call MS anyway to double check and see if you can get them moved earlier if you have a reservation you want to get booked,

I am in a similar boat, but have some banked 2018 and 2019 UY points on VGC reservations. And the November was booked during home resort priority, so I was never able to change it use expiring 2018 points from another resort. I currently am holding reservations for 10/22-10/23 with previously banked 2018 AKV points and 11/16-11/18 with a mix of previously banked 2018 VGC points and 2019 VGC points. I am losing hope on both of those reservations rapidly. Between AKV and VGC, I believe I have about 36 2018 banked points at risk to lose on 11/30. I would hope if November is cancelled that my 2019 points could be banked late as they have been sitting on that reservation since last December. I never dreamed that Disneyland would still be closed at this point. I am local and can make a 1-2 day reservation work ---- heck I would enjoy going and just being elsewhere a day or 2 even without the parks.

They will flip your 2018 points to your november res if you ask them to when oct gets canceled.

They can’t if the 2018 points are from a different resort and the trip was booked during home resort priority.

That is what I thought. I did reallocate after my July trip was cancelled to move the 10 banked VGC points to the November one. At the time, I had the other banked 2018 points and could not have those moved onto the reservation too since it was home resort priority booking. Both November and July were booked in home resort priority.

Anyone else have follow up on Grand Cal? I am December use year and they canceled on me today 8 days out. Lady blamed me for not canceling sooner...and that I should have known the risk. Now my points expire November 30th and they arent willing to do anything.

What a wondeful company.

Just to confirm...these were banked 2018 points, correct? Not 2019 points which are simply beyond the banking window?

Have faith. The extension that was given to all those other banked 2018 points were not an owners actual points. DVD used their own points,

So, it really doesn’t matter if they actually expire because they can always make the exceptions later for VGC owners and give them some of their own points like they did the others

I really think they are not extending yet because they want to have an open date so they know which UYs and which points to extend. And, all extended points didn’t actually get extended until a week after they officially expired so there is a still a month left for them to maybe Figure out an open date and come up with a plan!

I was able to get help by emailing the DVC Member Satisfaction team (dvcmembersatisfactionteam@disneyvacationclub.com). I had 2 reservations for November. The one used 20 AKV points and the other used 10 2018 VGC points and 30 2019 VGC points. All would be expiring 11/30. I cancelled the reservation using the AKV points and then gifted the points to a friend who could make a quick last minute trip to WDW. She got 2 nights at Kidani with those points. A supervisor called me back and I actually had to call them back. For the VGC points, they cancelled the November reservation and banked the 30 current year VGC points and then extended the 10 banked points and put them on my March Boardwalk reservation. I was satisfied with the help I got. I did mention that I know there are others like me and some communication might be helpful right now for those in this situation.
