News Round Up 2020

Curious why the 15 year mark is significant to you? BRV expires in 2042, didn't get a full 50 year life, so it has only 20 more years just like OKW, HHI, VB, BWV and BCV. SSR was the first after OKW to be given 50 years.

The 15 year refurbishment is what I meant. I’m also hopeful we see an extension offering for BRV like we saw (and they talked about on the DVC show this week) for Boardwalk and OKW in 2009.

I already own at Saratoga, so I’ve got the years left on my contract, I just want the pts at VGC or BRV and if the full room refurb is coming up next year for BRV, it makes it more enticing to me. I’m still leaning VGC since I have to throw away pts on the hotel side because it’s impossible to get in at the 7 month window

I wouldn’t count on anymore extensions after how poorly that went for OKW. It was really badly executed all around by DVC and not well received or utilized by OKW owners and I think they learned their lesson not to do that again. I think at this point DVC is content to run out the end of the contracts and then go from there.

But if given the choice between BRV and VGC, I’d go VGC because as you said, it’s impossible to get a studio or 1 bedroom on the DVC side at 7 months. We’ve only been able to get 2 bedrooms at 7 months the few times we’ve been out there but at least that works for us when we take my parents with us. But having the points there and the ability to book at 11 months would be amazing.

Steve Jobs was shopping around a bit to sort of get rid of Pixar so I’m not sure they would’ve kept it anyways.

Hmm, I don't recall Jobs shopping the entire company around back then. They were certainly looking for a new partner though. I purchased Pixar stock soon after TS1 was released and held it through the Disney merger, so I was paying attention to news (and Yahoo message board rumors) back then. Either way, your probably right, no way Apple was thinking about getting into the movie business back then.

I think they are in between a rock and a hard place as contracts expire. Unless the intention is to knock down and rebuild, there is not going to be high demand at the existing prices (imagine what those prices will be in 20 years!) for any of those resorts for another 50 years. If the contracts expire then disney is on the hook for all the costs.

Sounds exciting, but feel a lot of these are so far out, that a lot may just never come to fruition due to budget cuts or such. Just goes to show they know they need to ramp up their "new" offerings on Disney+. I also hope they continue the once a week roll out of shows. I like it with the Mandalorian -- makes it more of an event than just a 2-3 binge fest.

Feels like a lot though! Whew! I guess it will give them a constant trickle of content over many many years.

I wonder if they could do new contracts at a reduced cost but limit the resorts you can use those points at to only the older places ... this way at least they get some extra$ and the continued maintenance fees and people could get into DVC at a reduced cost

Didn’t realize Boulder Ridge has already hit the 15 year mark. That’s going to make my decision of buying resale at VGC or Boulder Ridge even harder

VGC is a much harder reservation to get. The additional time you get to book there is critical. Most of the resorts on the Florida side can be booked in the seven month window. If you ever plan on trying to stay at VGC, I would recommend going that route.

It helps create more of a community around shows. Discussions are hard when all episodes are just dumped at once. I’d be fine for some shows if they go all at once, but for the larger plot driven ones, I’d strongly prefer weekly stick around.

I wonder how the barges will alter the look across the lagoon? I enjoy looking across the wide expanse of water but hopefully the fountains make the new look enjoyable too.

the site that can't be names here has posted a few negative tweets this mroning, just to this point, that at least from some angles, they do block the view across the lagoon. I would think when they have the foutnains on it will add more of a positive view, but right now they are just those black metal boxes blocking the view/not adding anything
