Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

I haven't caught up on the thread in a while and I'll go back and do that but I just had to share my hallelujah vaccine moment.

Today my mother-in-law and step-father-in-law who have said "it's not pressing" and they're not in a hurry to get it (although mother-in-law needed to check with her doc about some medication) they got their first dose of Moderna today :jumping1::jumping1:

I'm just so excited they decided to get it instead of waiting and waiting. Both are over 65, both have health risks.

On some other good news last Thursday I had dinner with my mom. She let me know that my autistic aunt, my uncle (who is not anti-vaccine but anti-covid restrictions and downplayed the virus), my aunt and her husband (my other uncle) all were scheduled for their 2nd doses that Saturday (which would have been 2/27). I was ecstatic to know they had gotten it; some of them have health risks too. My mom and my other aunt are not 65 and are not eligible quite yet. My mom did start a retail job so we'll see if she'll get it soon because of that or not.

I don't know that my family had bad side effects because my mom didn't talk about that. She did talk about my autistic aunt because we are generally more worried about her. I'm pleased to say other than soreness in the arm she didn't have any on the first dose and as far as I know is doing okay with this second dose.

I didn't think to ask which vaccine for my family probably should have.

Anywho that's my good news for the day!

I had my second Pfizer vaccine yesterday afternoon. So far, so good - I haven’t had any side effects. I did have to get permission from my Infectious Disease doctor to get the second dose right now. Last week I had surgery to remove my right knee replacement implant. Somehow 7.5 months after having both knees replaced, the right implant and tibia got infected. Now I have to do 6 weeks of IV antibiotics (minimum) before I can have the knee redone. Wish me luck!

A bummer for sure. But you did get both your shots, so important. Best wishes in the coming weeks and next few months. I bet you'll do great!!

I was just able to make an appointment for next Friday (3/12) JNJ vaccine at CVS. I live in NYS and teach elementary and preschool. I've been eligible since mid December (I think). I waited a while to get it because Covid went through our household in November and I didn't feel a big rush to get it. I have to work Saturday 3/13, so I hope the side effects are mild

The J&J vaccines have come to Ohio. I was able to get two appointments this morning - one for my mom tomorrow (about an hour's drive for her), and one for one of my aunts on Tuesday (about a 90-minute drive). But they're willing to drive a little further since it's just one time. Both are through CVS...I was on their website at 6:30AM this morning and ended up waiting about 1.5 hours to make the first appointment. My mom informed me that two of my uncles (her brothers) have said they will not be getting the vaccine...I am disappointed because they both have pre-existing health conditions, but I'm not entirely surprised at the same time.

My dad got himself an appointment at Walgreens for Monday...from the dates it looks like it'll be Moderna. I found J&J appointments for his wife but my dad is anti-J&J because he doesn't think it's as good...

All of the people mentioned above are age 60+, which is where we are age-wise in Ohio.

EDIT: For anyone looking to make appointments at at CVS, they ask that you enter in health and prescription information when making the appointment. We didn't have all of the info for my aunt, so I just said she didn't have prescription insurance and it let me bypass that page and make the appointment. I'm sure they can get that sorted out the day of the vaccine, it'll just make it take a bit longer. But I didn't have to make accounts for them to schedule - I DID have to do that to check Walgreens.

So brother, Rob was still feeling lethargic and every bone in his body ached when he came over for coffee this morning. I told him he hopefully will be feeling better by the end of today. He's 60 btw.

Brother 2 (the one getting the Pfiser) also came over today with a low grade fever and feeling like he had gotten run over by a bus. He had had Covid around Christmastime and tho he felt sick (with annoying cold symtoms and lost of taste and smell) he said he was a LOT sicker with this 2nd shot. He's 55.

Thus big sister (me) was here to take care of them as a big sister would.
