Hoping Park Hopping Limitation ENDS

From what I've been seeing, they will be up to full capacity by August.

And I really HOPE they start opening Epcot before 11am. The reason for that was bus capacity when they first opened. IMO it should have started opening back up at 9am as soon as bus capacity went back to normal!
I was thinking about how Epcot opened at 9am prior to everything going south and how confusing it was that world showcase remained closed except for certain sections for new guests. I'm wondering if Disney is going to keep it this way, it makes sense from the whole park opening at once - I'm definitely a fan of it opening earlier though.

Epcot always opened at 9am. It's standard hours were always 9am-9pm. WS usually opened at 11am.

Just got back from a trip...we found it more restrictive than before but not a huge deal, generally speaking, and I understand why they have it in place, however it did make it tougher to pivot if something unforeseen happened...

Best example for us...there were a lot of thunderstorms this week - typical June weather I hear - so a lot of outdoor rides had periods of being off-line. We only had one AK reservation day, but then hopped there another evening, specifically so my DD14 could do EE again - it's her favorite ride. So, at the last minute, DH decides to tag along with us, but he doesn't like EE so we do KS and Kali with him first, with the plan to proceed to EE while he heads back to the resort. So of course a thunderstorm starts brewing, and after we've been in line for a bit, EE shuts down. At this point, it's about 6:20pm and the park is only open until 7pm. We debated leaving but didn't really want to jump into line at FOP, and again, EE is her favorite ride so she didn't want to leave. We knew that we risked it not re-opening before park closure, but she really didn't want to ride anything else so we just decided we might as well take our chances. The ride didn't re-open and so they gave us a recovery FP - a typical one that we could use in any park except for the big headliners.

So then, the challenge was that while we could have used it other parks, the ride she really wanted to do was EE, and since we didn't have any other park reservations for AK and only had two days left, our options to get back were limited to after 2pm on those days. We couldn't do the following morning anyway, but I suggested rope dropping EE on our last day before we went to Blizzard Beach, totally forgetting that we couldn't do that until she reminded me (our park reservations were for MK)! We ended up going on the last day, since we had to transfer buses at AK anyway, but she had to tap into Mk in the morning, even though she hadn't planned on that since we weren't hopping that day and she was going to sleep in before BB - but it was worth it for her!

Again, not a huge deal and if it didn't work we would have used it elsewhere, I just didn't think through the ways that it could be more restrictive before certain situations came up in the trip...

They could easily remove the 2pm limit and still keep what they see as the benefit of park reservations. They could change it to "You need a park reservation to enter a park, whether hopping or not". So, you are in your first park, it is 11 am, and you want to hop to AK, you open the app, and get a park reservation for AK. If you can't get a park reservation for AK, then you can't. You could even get your second park reservation right after you entered the first. Would work similar to the 4th FPP.

We just left today and talked about hopping hours a lot. We wondered if one reason for the 2pm time is so that only those with actual Hollywood Studios park reservations can try for ROTR.
No. Only those with park reservations for HS can even try. If you are hopping, you don't have a park reservation for there, so it wouldn't let you anyway.

I think the logic is that some of the early birds would have left the park by then.

My guess is the 2 pm is there to prevent people hopping to HS for the 1:00 boarding group sign up. So until that is changed I think it will stay.
That's an interesting point that I hadn't thought of before.

Not so sure. The 1pm attempts are based on you physically being in the park. I'm not sure it's tied to a park reservation. As things are currently, the only way to be in the park physically at 1pm is to have reserved HS for that day. However, if PH restrictions were removed, a lot more guests could by physically in the park at 1pm.

If they change the PH restrictions, I suppose IT could base the 1pm attempts on BOTH having a park reservation for that day, and physically being in the park.

I'm just not sure how IT is working the 1pm attempts now other than physically being in the park.

right. For the 1pm slot you have to have physically checked into the park. You can scan in and then leave and still get a boarding group but you have to have scanned in at some point in the day.

I didn't realize you could physically be outside of the park (if you had already scanned in earlier) and still try for the 1pm slot from outside the park. Good to know, thanks!

I think you've probably got it right. It's not that you have to have a park reservation, it's that you have to be checked in at some point before 1. Without the park reservation requirement, you just get to the park before 1. I do think that's exactly why there's a 2pm limit on hopping. If there weren't HS would be flooded at 1 pm.

I’m fairly confident it IS tied to a park reservation. Both at 7am and 1pm the system automatically preselects those in your group with a park pass. At 7am of course no one has been in the park yet, since it’s not open, so the system is definitely designed to look for the park pass.

I guess there is a potential that w/o the 2pm restriction, someone with a HS reservation for the day could be blocked out of checking in prior to 1:00 based upon capacity of those hopping if there wasn't a 2pm restriction. Although it hasn't happen it could and that would be bad for the person with the HS reservation.

Disney is far better at this scenario planning then we can ever be and I'm sure 1:00 and 2:00 weren't randomly selected.

However, you cannot get a park pass at 1 pm if you haven't tapped into the park yet for the day.

Yes, there have been many reports of guests who have scanned into the park and the left being able to get a BG from outside the park.

Can we hop to one park only? Or once in the second park can we hop to a third?

Yes, having tapped into the park does play a role for the afternoon release, but they clearly have the capability to base it solely off the park reservation, as they do for the 7AM release.
