Heard some FP kiosks were uncovered in MK today

Wasn’t there also button in the back of the fastpass dispensing kiosk/machines that you could jiggle that would spit out extra fastpasses too? I remember hearing this back then but never tried it (never really tried to game fastpass anyway in general though).

I never heard about that.

That must have been a well-guarded secret. I have been reading these forums for years and never heard that before.

If it was actually true and was a well gaurded secret, it would make sense why I found out about it after that “trick” went extinct and not before. But that’s assuming it was a real trick and not just BS being passed on.

As I recall, you had no choice about the return time when you inserted the ticket and you could only gather one at a time (unless it was 1 hour after the last one you got).
Honestly, it's been so long I don't remember the exact amount of time you had to wait. As I recall though it was either 1 hr or whenever your window came open. So if you were there in the morning, the first one you got would be for almost immediate use, 2nd not far behind. Then at that point, just wait for the 1 hr (if that's what it was) and get another. As far as the time stamp, CM's did not pay attention to it and you could use it any time you wanted. That's why it worked. Right before they ended legacy, they started enforcing the time window because it really was just destroying what the system was intended to do. But, it was on the way out at that point anyway.

It was true. There was always (usually?) one machine that was unlocked and would respond to the button on the back being pressed. It would spit out a return time without needing a ticket inserted.

I'm not expecting a paid system at all, at least not at first. But when they do, if it's priced comparable to Universal, in reality it's cheaper as Disney has more parks and I'm just assuming it would cover any parks hopped to. Or ......maybe not. :)
Universals paid express passes are park specific. If you want to pay to use the express entrance in 2 parks you have to buy a pass for each park.

I believe the Universal Express passes are dynamically priced. As the number of passes sold for a day goes up so does the price. Express passes for some HHNs just went up $20.

Partially correct (I believe). Yes, whenever your window came open, but the first FP was valid no less than 1 hour after park open. So I would sprint walk to Soarin' to get a FP (for 10:05) with a 9AM RD, and then sprint/walk back to the family at TT to wait in the quick RD line. By the time the Soarin' window opened, the next best FP was already at 12:00 or 1:00PM.

I feel like I've stepped back in time! I've tried to block all memories of legacy out of my mind. I just hated it. But it was the system we had and we learned to work with it. But that's exactly how we did rope drop too- the dr went to a headliner, we all headed to another headliner and he met us there. Most of the collectors I knew of wanted to ride specific rides, many times a day, so dedicating themselves to getting a handful to ride at night was perfectly fine.

I'd bore everyone to death with old posts about it if the archives went back that far. :) Guess we can thank Pete that it doesn't. But it was a great source for debates that often headed south with points being awarded to all involved. Not that I would know anything about points....:)

Ouch! I've only been to Universal once in all the years we've visited WDW so I'm very unfamiliar with their system. As I recall, we stayed at a resort that included it, but it was at a time of year when the park was near empty and it was completely unneccesary to have.

Yes, there was! It was normally "locked" on all machines except for one so a CM could quickly dispense FP's if there was a guest having a problem. If you knew which machine to hit, it would dispense FP's without needing to insert park tickets.

Was there like a black market forum board where you could go to find out these tricks?! :rolleyes1

I will never tell....8-) Though the large tour groups would try to game the system. They would send a few chaperones to the FP machines with a stack of tickets for their group (while the group was on an attraction) and take up a majority of the machines. It would back up the lines at the machines and really get other guests angry because they would purposely take their time. In an effort to expedite the process, often the CM at the FP kiosk would just hit the button and pump out a bunch of FP's for the group. Well, after a while the tour groups caught on and realized that because the tickets were not run through the machines, they could go to another attraction and do the same thing there. They could get FP's for all the attractions in just the time it took to walk to each location. We caught on and instead would take the chaperones to one kiosk and have them run all the tickets. And made sure the button was locked if a CM was not present. Fun times!

This is what we would do! My husband would take the older kids to TT to ride and I would take my youngest to grab Soarin FP for the family, and then we would sit and have breakfast while we waited for them. Memories! :)

Yes the worst things about legacy paper FP were, in my opinion:

In order
1) Still having to be at every park at rope drop :crazy2::scared:to get the really hard to get FP’s
2). The crisscrossing all over the park and all the extra walking
3). Wasting time waiting in lines just to get FP’s

The best parts were:
In order:
1) The ability to gather and save multiple FP’s for later in the day. (Disney did not enforce the end window for a FP, only the start)
2) Short waits in those FP lines
3) Some pretty cool souvenirs if you had some unused FP’s when you got home

Sunshine Seasons is arguably one of the best-placed, and best all-around QS restaurants on Disney property!
I have fond memories of our first trip taking turns having breakfast at Sunshine seasons while our family alternated riding Soarin standby at rope drop. Circa 2010

I just checked out their menu based on your comment and I think that will be our Epcot lunch spot! Looks yummy! Last time we ate at The Electric Umbrella. Just okay, so I wasn't sad it's not available this time.

Again, I had totally forgotten about the lines with tour groups. We always looked to see if we had one in our line- we'd see that thick stack of tickets and head to another kiosk, but sometimes you just couldn't avoid it.

I think Disney is getting higher profit per guest in other ways. They don’t need to do it through a paid fastpass system.

Just look at ticket, resort and dining prices the last five to ten years. It has way outpaced inflation. They are using this to not only increase profits per guests but also limit park attendance.

Dan
They don't but Chapek's Disney they will. I can see it being you get 3 free ones and pay to get more. I personally wouldn't mind that. Getting rid of the refresh warriors would be a good thing.
