Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE RESORT Information & Questions

Why is disney allowing people to bring dogs into their resorts? Obviously, if they were service dogs, they would be with their owners. I am so surprised disney allows this. My husband is really allergic to dogs, do these rooms get rented out to people afterwards without even telling the new occupants there were dogs in the rooms beforehand? That's really not right.

4 of the resorts have been dog-friendly for a couple of years now.

Q. Do you have any pet-friendly hotels?
A.
Yes. As part of an ongoing pilot program, 4 of our Disney Resort hotels have designated dog-friendly accommodations, including:

These rooms have easy access to outdoor walkways for exercise and to green spaces with pet relief areas. Upon arrival, dogs and their owners will be greeted with a complimentary Pluto’s Welcome Kit.

At this time, dogs are the only pets allowed, with a maximum of 2 permitted per Guest room. Dogs are expected to be well-behaved, leashed in public areas and properly vaccinated.

While certain floors or sections of these Disney Resort hotels are designated as dog-friendly, the majority of areas remain canine-free to protect Guests with allergies. Other than service animals, dogs are not permitted in theme parks, water parks or common areas such as restaurants, pools and recreational spaces.

Do you have any pet-friendly hotels?

Yes. As part of this new pilot program, four out of our 26 resorts, have designated dog-friendly rooms. The four include Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney Port Orleans Resort – Riverside and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort and the Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. The offering includes Pluto’s Welcome amenity, which gives dogs and their owners a collection of dog-friendly items. Certain floors or sections of a hotel are designated as dog-friendly, while the majority of areas remain canine-free to accommodate guests with allergies or other needs.

Can you guarantee my room will be dog-free?
We can guarantee your request to stay outside of the designated dog-friendly areas at one of these four resorts. The overwhelming number of hotels and hotel rooms at Walt Disney World Resort are not part of this pilot program, which affects approximately 250 rooms out of a total hotel inventory of 28,000. If you prefer to stay at a hotel that is not dog-friendly, there are several other Walt Disney World resort hotels to choose from.

Good to know. Going to submit a request to be outside one of the dog areas.

Thank you for the information. I will definitely request a dog-free room when we check in. If a dog is not a service dog, I don't understand why someone would bring them on vacation and leave them in a hotel room while they vacation day and night. Wonder how much disney charges people to keep their dogs in their hotel rooms?

We were there Nov 7-10 and it seemed like there were sections of rooms in the Alligator Bayou section that had nobody staying there. Parking lots and buildings seemed pretty empty during our stay.

Are POR guests still allowed to use POFQ pools? We were excited to book a Royal Room, but with 2 smaller kids, access to the kids water sprayground at POFQ is a must.

Also, are Royal Rooms dog-friendly? (Hoping they aren't.) Are there elevators in that section? (we don't care how far we have to walk to get to one, as long as we don't have to carry the stroller upstairs).

Does the resort seem full or only partially open?

The resort is still only running at around half capacity I believe - or was a week or so ago anyway. They did have most of the 30s buildings and mansion building 80 out of operation initially, and it would make sense to continue to do that if they still aren't using all their capacity.

Yes, both POR and POFQ guests can use all of the pools.

Any guest booking at POR might include bringing a dog, so every section has some availability to support that, but primarily they try to use Alligator Bayou building 28 where possible.

We just returned Saturday from a one-week stay -- we had never been at the resort before. It is very pretty and we liked the location for Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Disney Springs.
Staff told us that the resort was at 43% capacity -- this meant that traffic in the public areas was quite light. There was no crowding in the food court, and the selection of food available is impressive.
We were in building 85. On day 2 our housekeeping was trash removed and fresh towels provided -- new trash bags were laid across the bins; on day 4 it was trash removed, no new bags provided, no fresh towels; on day 6 we had left a bag of trash in a grocery bag by the door, it was removed, no new bags were provided, used towels were not removed and a large bag of towels was left in the middle of the room floor. I think it's clear that there is a staff shortage for this role. They were working very hard, but clearly couldn't get to all rooms.
Transportation schedules to the parks were iffy. We had good luck in our return trips from the parks, although we did meet one family that waited 90 minutes at Magic Kingdom for a bus back. Bus drivers seemed to alternate the route around the resort, sometimes starting at the main stop outside the resort lobby, and other times doing the circuit and ending at the main stop (which I believe is the correct order). They stopped at all locations, even though two of the areas were clearly empty.
The boat to Disney Springs was great and frequency was excellent.
It was clear that many Cast Members are new and in training.
We used the quiet pool next-door, and had it all to ourselves.
Also used the laundry at the pool - $3 each for wash and dry.

Thanks Andrew, still love your website. I don't know if you realize what a service you provide especially during the pandemic when few people traveled. One of the fondest memories my wife and I had was in February of 2020 right before the shutdown watching Yehaa Bob at the River Roost Lounge. Thanks!

We recently got back from a stay at POR and we took our dog. $50/night, he did wonderful while we were at the parks, he was never left alone for more that 4 hours and we came back to the resort and spent at least 3 hours with him, walking him around the resort until we went back. He was completely fine being left alone as he went to sleep as soon as we left (we had a camera on him so we could check on him). We only took him because we went to visit family after we left Disney World for another 4 days. It was much cheaper to bring him with us then to leave him at home in a kennel. Lots of people seemed to really enjoy seeing him, multiple people asked to pet him and the cast members loved him, they all wish they could have either brought their dogs or at least enjoyed seeing him because it them joy.

I know it's a touchy subject for many but you have to do what's best for you and your family, we consider our dog as a part of the family so he comes on trips with us.

Can confirm that Royal Rooms are dog-friendly not all of them but building 95 (2nd floor) is for sure because that is where we were placed with our dog a few weeks ago, there is a dog potty area in the back of the building near the parking lot at the very end of the building.

You should still always be requesting an allergy clean if he is that allergic - in ANY hotel. Service dogs are NOT limited to the pet friendly areas/hotels.

???? Not sure if that response was intended for my post. Never mentioned anything about anyone being allergic.

You should still ALWAYS be requesting an allergy cleaning at ANY hotel if your husband is that allergic. Service dogs are not restricted to pet friendly rooms and most of them are not hypo-allergenic. Any room you are assigned could have had a service dog in it prior to your stay.

Does anyone know if Uber will pick you up right at your specific building, or do you have to meet them at the main lobby? Thanks.

If we are trying to make it for early entry, are the busses that early still stopping at all the outside perimeter bus stops first before hitting the main stop at the lobby, or are busses purely just starting at the main lobby that early in the morning? Thanks.

We had to switch rooms because of a very loud barking dog. As soon as the owners left the room, there was constant loud barking. We will ask for a dog free zone next time.

As far as allergies are concerned, the dog friendly resorts don't have carpet, so they are easier to clean.
