DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Masi really screwed up on this one. He told Martin Brundle before the race he wouldn't red flag the race if there was an accident in that series of turns near the end of the race.
Right. I forgot about that.
He then told teams that lapped cars would maintain there position and not be allowed to go past the safety car. Red Bull complained and suddenly the cars were allowed to unlap but only the cars between Hamilton and Verstappen. While they were doing that he withdrew the safety car. One big clusterflub!
Yeah pretty bad all around. :sad2:
Good morning... the wife and I have been discussing planning a trip to Disney again this summer.
Nice. Kids okay? Was looking like they might have caught the virus?
As much as I don't like NASCAR's constant rule changes, I do really like their overtime rule to give up to 3 chances to finish under green... everybody knows what to expect and it leaves less open to interpretation. Also plays into strategy because you have to plan for possibly a few extra laps of fuel or plan to pit if it goes over.
Didn’t know that. I don’t follow NASCAR.
Don't watch F1, but all of Lady Ks family are steeped in it, and are spittin feathers today. I have no idea what they are talking about.
I would think they would be, especially over in your country.
And this encapsulates my entire exposure to CFL this season. Congrats to big W on the, er, big W.
 Thanks!

Yes... Wife and oldest son caught it. Wife has recovered and can go back to work tomorrow. I can get tested tomorrow and return Wednesday with a negative test. Our son is out of quarantine after today per the health department, but can't return to school until after break due to school policy... they have to stay out 10 days after a positive test, not onset of symptoms which is what the health department uses.

Basically, if there is a caution in the last few laps of the race, they will have up to 3 attempts to finish under green. They'll count caution laps up to the advertised distance then just ride around on laps that basically don't count (or red flag if there's a big clean up) and then reset and go green with 2 to go. If there's a caution before the leader takes the white flag, they reset and try again. Once the leader crosses the line for a white flag, the next flag ends the race whether it is caution or checkers.

It was kind of a weird rule for a while and they've made tweaks to it over the years, but it does work kind of nice in that it gives structure to those odd end of race situations and still provides an opportunity for the fans to get an exciting finish. It's better than having the sanctioning body arbitrarily deciding to maybe throw a red flag to get a few more laps run vs keeping them out under yellow.

I like the rule, it makes for some great racing at the end of a race.

Glad to hear that you guys are all doing better.

Hey, Fellas! Well, big day in my household today as my DD turns 9 years old today. Wow! Just can't believe she's 9. We're going to have a little get together at the in-laws this evening, but otherwise it'll be a low key affair. Outside that, things are going well. Have a good day, guys.

Man that sounds like a pretty darned good weekend!

It was a good weekend.

Actually... in this case, while surprised that he lost it a bit (he's pretty even-keeled), the other party deserved it. And is the problem.

Ah.

Good morning... the wife and I have been discussing planning a trip to Disney again this summer. I've been reading through the boards. Usually that gets me fired up and ready to book. Now... I'm still kind of skeptical and reluctant. :sad2:

Any chance we could put a Chapek animatronic in place of Zurg so we can shoot him with our laser guns?

You know, there was a time when I would never have considered staying off-site. The thought alone was sacrilegious. Now? I'm seriously looking into Disney Springs area hotels. All the money grab by Disney is getting to be too much. Disney's making it easier for people to stay off-site. And that new Start Wars hotel? Forget it. Too much.

I'd pay single pass attraction upgrades for that.
Me and Lady K have been talking about selling up on DVC. Right now I can pretty much get back what I paid for it, including commissions. So that means the last 5 vacations would have effectively been the cost of my dues, which is about 20% of what I would have paid cash. I don't know if we will, but that's a chunk o change.
Thinking the ecact same. I was told Disney is offering to buying back some contracts, but evidently not mine since I haven't gotten an email from them.
I've had mine since 2008, so it would be the last 13 years for cost of dues and might even make a profit too since I got it for a decent price.

Morning all.

Some new restrictions coming here as of Friday night. With a lot of cases showing up in young kids, K-6 schools are starting their Christmas break early, youth sports put on hold (except for practices), 50% capacity at events, restaurants etc. Good times.

@londontime, will you be getting the Titanic Lego set anytime soon?

Whee. Not!

Looked up that set. Expensive, but was expecting it to be even more....
Lego ist teuer.

Happy birthday to your DD! :cake:

Yeah... hoping we don't have to start closing down again too, but... the hospitals are demanding more restrictions. We'll see.
DD class (that she teaches) had 4 kids come down with it.

Daily rapid tests started today for all K-8 students here.

Of course some parents are refusing to do it which boggles my mind.

Is it as political there as it is here?

I wish we had easier access to rapid tests. Locally, I can go to a Walgreens to get a 1 hour rapid test... but I need an appointment. Regularly have to wait 2 days to get one. I can go to the health department, next day appointment and get a test that will have results in 48 hours. Or I can go to my doctor's office walk ins or urgent care. Where they will only do a rapid test if I'm exhibiting symptoms. Doesn't matter if I live in a house with 2 other positive individuals. So stupid.

The political parties that form our opposition say the decisions are political but they aren't really. Hard to understand at times but not political. I know I wouldn't want to be part of the team that is trying to manage this thing.

We have pretty good access to rapid tests. There are locations for the general public to pick up tests everyday, the schools are now providing them and the chamber of commerce in many locations have a stock to provide to businesses. The delay is usually around getting a PCR test and then the contact tracing for positive cases.

Glad your wife has recovered. Hope everyone else is 100% shortly.

Happy birthday to DD! I can barely even remember when my older kids were 9. It goes too fast.

Double ugh.

If she has any Dutch relatives they are probably drunk right now.
,Nah, all Union jack waving Brexiteers mate. Her brother married the daughter of someone who drove for Brabham or Williams I think, and worked Pit Crew for Paul Newman's One. I think.

It is now over here. Especially as those in charge got their hands caught in the proverbial cookie jar on having parties while the rest of us plebs were locked down.
Tests are free at any pharmacy here which you take at home and scan in against your health number. If you test positive on an anti gen, you also get a PCR test on Her Majestys Coin. The only tests you have to pay for are ones related to travel.
The big difference over here is vaccinated under 11s is not even a conversation, its just not happening yet. And they are filthy little petri dishes of disease, having 2 of them myself.
Hope you get out of the house soon mate.

Have a good one fellas

Sounds like California politicians... :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I am NOT from California, but seems like their politicians have done a good job making news doing things like that.

Yeah, tests are free, but the availability is hard to get. I mean, pretty much anybody can get one, but there are hoops to jump through and usually a time delay of some sort. You can't just walk up and ask to be tested. Home tests are hit or miss (and you usually do have to pay for them). Schools and employers for the most part don't accept home test results anyway.

:rotfl2: Yeah, I hear ya. We did have our 2 oldest vaccinated with their first shot at the end of November. Our youngest is 5, so at the youngest end of the spectrum and he has had plenty of health issues that put him in the high risk area. We have held off on getting his first shot, only because we want to discuss it further with his doctor and have been unable to that since they have made it available.

Really! Wow!

And... I'd be perfectly happy if they did that here.
Oldest DD had to get tested because 4 of her kids were positive... but (some, not all) parents figure they can still send the little virus factories to school. :sad2:
Of course some parents are refusing to do it which boggles my mind.
Sure. Sure. It's an inconvenience. And who wants to be forced? Easier to just let people die in peace.
Is it as political there as it is here?
I'd say no. There are certainly pockets of people who want to push their own agenda, but the majority are onboard.

It's different from Province to Province up here.
My oldest DD can get a PCR test within an hour or so because she's a teacher. I haven't needed one yet, but might be able to as an essential service worker? I'm not even sure. Others might take longer, but I don't know how long.

Why does that keep happening everywhere???

So DW's school has gone to online learning for the rest of the week. Teachers go to the school to use the awesome online learning system that our Education Minister keeps raving on about. The guy is such a tool.

On another note, DW brought home a couple of rapid tests yesterday and I got to perform the test on her. I've now added Health Care Technician to my resume and am waiting for employment offers.
